The Patti Hurst kidnapping and the Symbionese liberation army, the Watergate break-in and demise of Nixon's presidency, and the energy crisis and long gas station lines, some of which are mentioned in this broadcast, were part of our everyday life. Funny that the commercials which were so annoying at the time are such an enjoyable part of the nostalgia. And of course, the kind of suspense and horror of the time has been passe for decades. I'm reminiscing not lamenting, though I occasionally feel sad about good times and loved ones long gone.
I was 27 and working as a psychiatric nurse's aide - working with schizophrenics and loving it. I remember the Patty Hearst kidnapping and her subsequent misadventures in a general sort of way. I was enjoying watching Nixon's presidency go down the drain - I had a bumper sticker reading "Don't blame me, I voted for McGovern." Good things were happening in my love-life. All in all it was a good year for me personally. Wish I'd been aware of CBSRMT back then but it's possible I wouldn't have made time for it; I was following the music scene on two fronts - at country venues and rock concerts - and was doing drugs, drinking beer, making love and still finding time for political reading and discussion as well as reading a lot of psychology. Gosh, come to think of it my life today is pretty sedentary in comparison.
I must have lost a full grade point in my average at high school because I stayed up late listening to Radio Mystery Theater. I had a little radio I'd gotten for my birthday and I would keep it in bed with me at night--just to hear this program!

Oh, I’ve accidently come across some cool old radio news flashes listening to these podcasts? One 1950’s show was interrupted to announce North Korea’s invasion of the south and one 1930's show announced Amelia Earhart as next week’s guest, upon her return from her round the world flight!
I saw on Ed Sullivan rerun when Elvis Presley was on for the first time. Also Ike and Tina Turner. And the Jackson 5 . On Antenna TV. Also the Dick Cavett Show it's still running and he is still alive.

The last part about Doris supposedly losing something on the mountain - the writers had temporary amnesia when they came to the ending. Doris probably had a *pure heart* and definitely believed in the power of the mountain, so she was most likely to come off of it unscathed. I hate sloppy writing.

SOME TIMES DIVORCED PEOPLE HAVEN'T HAD ENOUGH OF SORROWS AND THEY GET READY TO GO AGAIN DOWN THAT LONG ROAD OF MISERABLE DAY AFTER DAY LIFE WITH SOME ONE ELSE,,, JUST TO HAVE NO LOVE FOR HER OR HIM AND THE BOAT RIDE SINKS.
