In bad years when bears couldn't prep properly for their hibernation, they lose all fear of humans and do attack both people and livestock. It's no joke. If the beat is hungry both the dog and the owner may look like a meal.
Because nothing grows up there bar potatoes, and there is no work available nearby. With the modern style of remote work things may change , bits early days still. Also winters are very harsh and unforgiving. On top of that you have wolves and bears. Over the summer wolves are not bothering anyone but in harsh winters they starve and lose all fears they have. In bad years the same applies to bears. There are hundreds of bears there. Modern people are quite soft. Hence the issues they face. With the spread of satellite broadband things may change but it's still early days. Hopefully this info would help you understand why it's not populated at all.
Hi,what sort of price can you buy a property in the Rodopi, are there many for sale due to most of the houses are empty,I live near Varna.do you know of a good estate agent that could let me know or even yourself if you know of any properties for sale,I stay in Bulgaria for 6mths a year.

I think....., if a foreigner, following and respecting the rules, wants to buy a house and live in it, why is it so bad? Even now, after 13 years, I consider Bulgaria mine "втора къща".
