    That's great. Something you would put on display in a school or college.
    Only thing I would do, is fit red LED's in the spark plugs and some kind of ignition system to light them up on the firing stroke.
    A brilliant model. Well done Mr. Robert.

      @@RichBatangKalye depends on the amount of cylinders. Pistons have to move pretty fast to keep the engine alive. You will be suprised on how fast pistons move up and down in a engine.

    I sometimes ask my self.... how the heck a computer can read each time those things goes up and down so accurate specially on a race car like wtf... and the sparks and all that stuffs... its almost as if we are Aliens or some stuffs like that lol

      Neo J. Ssk Computers are extremely accurate we are in the giga (billion realm of calculation at the moment) for everyday computers and can go as far as tera for super computers.

      Instead of getting of at p0rn, read on machine design, microcontroller programming and mathematical modelling. That will answer a lot of things for you my friend.

      Usually its not so much computation but rather sensors measuring the crankshafts movement (and its current angle) and when at the right angle an electronic signal goes towards the plug to iginite the mixture. The valves are conmected mechanically to the crankshaft. But still 20k rpm on F1 cars for example (back then) are still insane especially as materials (such as the feathers for the valves) always get less time to rebound the higher the rpm

      Even normal computers today are insanely fast doing billions of calculations per second. Now just think about super computers. It's almost unreal.

    I'm surprised that one of the pistons didn't break free from the cross-sectioned cylinders; gouging out your eye with a reasonable degree of precision.

      yeah better think that the cylinder might be cut off in just 1/4 of its parts so that the piston will not break free

      fidel catsro 6cylinder inline engines are the smoothest engines man has made. 2 cylinders like to flip in either direction due to primary forces. 4 cylinders are unbalanced

    It's just a demonstration of piston movement, not a simulation of entire engine.

      You built a device which demonstrates how pistons move at different crankshaft rpms. It's just a matter of proper nomenclature. To call it a simulation you would need to add valves and camshaft to the construction and make it functional. Not that I'm hating, it's cool and all but it should be "Piston motion demonstration (device)" not engine itself :)

      Lots, if you read the temp using a temp gun before starting, then after you run it for 10 minutes there will be a crazy increase in temp
