  • In this video I review the TriEye Sunglasses that have a built in mirror. Could this revolutionize what cyclist wear when riding their bike?

    Thanks for the video just got my pair today via mail I got small size they fit nicely. I'll be trying them out tomorrow on the road I can say they are well made come with a nice case and instructions and cleaning cloth and cloth pouch it's a great solution if you don't want to put mirrors on your handle bars .

      Great to hear you like them initially! Let me know what you think of them after you get a few rides in. I am still using mine on every single ride. I prefer the smaller size because it does give a bit of a better view behind.

    I know this is an older video... but now that I'm getting back into riding after a few years of LOTS of motorcycling riding I miss my mirrors... I still find myself going to check my blindspot and as i'm swinging my head over my shoulder I look for my mirrors and realise they aren't there.
    that ties into the complaints about having to change your head position to use the mirror... on my motorcycle I routinely change my entire torso position to get the best view behind me... I do the same in cars as well *shrug*.

    Good review. I like how these are functional while also being integrated into the lens rather than dangling out front on a stick. About the only thing better would be if Garmin's new varia with camera could display the video on the head unit like a backup camera.

    • @BlackWaterCyclist

      I have been thinking of that for years but the tech is not there yet or at least at a price point that people are willing to pay. Would love to see this eventually though.

      @@BlackWaterCyclist how about designing a dim led around that cup area. The bike computers that function with radars, could potential send a signal that just activate the led in the mirror cup alerting the riders attention, giving them the hint to look at the miror.
      This idea may be useless since the bike computers do alert the rider as well, but maybe more of a bonus since the dim light would make the rider want to look at the mirror by instinct.

      @@shinobusensui9395I think that a small LED notification would be very useful. I wear bilateral cochlear implants, and can’t always hear my Garmin V when it notifies me of something approaching from behind, especially when there’s wind noise in my processors. I ride mostly long distance paved trails to avoid car/traffic. The LED, at minimum, would alert me to stay to the right of the trail until the other rider has passed.

      @@RadarRider226 the mirror area is bulky enough to maybe place a small battery in and maybe add a small board somewhere in the frame that works with ant+. I'm sure this can be devoloped with ease

      @@shinobusensui9395 I wouldn’t know how to begin putting something like that together, I’m not an engineer for sure. I’ll have to do some research and see if there’re groups out there that take on challenges like this. It would be a wonderful tool for those that ride and are hearing impaired. Thanks for the idea.

    Thanks for this explanatory video. Quite informative, and looks honest on some of the limitations.
    I would definiively prefer the wider size. Where are their plans of moving the mirror up in the wider size up to?

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  Год назад +1

      Their newer models have actually done that already so if you order now, the larger size will have the mirror moved up in a better position.

    what would be the difference using these glasses compared to using an additional mirror on a bike?

  • @SheepDoggyDog
    @SheepDoggyDog 2 года назад

    Pretty interesting concept. I've been wearing glasses over the last several months primarily for protection and cold weather, but didn't before because I really dislike the feeling of something in my periphery. I wonder how distracting or disorienting the little portion cut out of the corner for the mirror would be.
    $99 is little much to pay to have them shipped and find out, but if I would ever see them in a store, I'd try them out.
    (on a technical note, I think the volume on the music bed was too high and it was a distracting rhythm)

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  2 года назад +2

      Yeah you may not like this product then because if regular glasses bother you then I would think you would not like this one because it does have something more noticeable in your periphery.
      Thank you so much for the heads up on the music. It's nice when I get feedback on the video tech stuff so I don't repeat it.

    This convinced me that I must try out some of the mirrors that can be mounted to the glasses or the helmet - that way, I can get better looking glasses and find the optimal position for the mirror.

    They are just regular glasses with a little mirror.

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  2 года назад

      Yeah but if you look at other glasses out there the price is not ridiculous. Tifosi glasses which aren't crazy expensive are around $80 for their top fo the line cycling glasses and then you have to buy a mirror which might fit on them for $19 so you are looking at a glasses mirror combo around $100. You can buy some cheap glasses for around $25 and then you pay an extra $19 for the mirror and you are at $45. In my opinion, they are not outrageously priced and are very reasonable considering you get some nice features and two products in one.

    You should of had some lights on the bike. You seeing them is less affective then them being able to see and avoid you! Get some good tail lights and run them day and night!!

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  10 месяцев назад

      I agree completely and I do run lights day and night. I will say that you can't trust the drivers alone. Here is a video of drivers intentionally murdering a cyclist. If you had the mirror, you could see and avoid the driver behind you. x.com/JohnLeFevre/status/1703022271235825854?t=XEZfyt2q9QTqhyXMMVRPGw&s=01

    surely this could just be an attachable piece instead of selling the entire proprietary pair?

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  2 года назад

      I think that would be amazing but the issue with it being an attachable piece is that it would need to sit in front of regular glasses and then you couldn't adjust the mirror because it would be behind the regular lens of your glasses. I wish it could be an easy addition to other shades but I think it may be too complex.

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist  Год назад

      @@theinstigatorr I agree. The ultimate set up in my opinion would be some sort of HUD in the glasses that connect to a camera behind you so you can always see behind you. That obviously complicates things.
