One of the few videos that does "stretched faces" trope very well. I like that there's no loud sounds, just subtle ambiance and very well done live action, and the art is also extremely well made. Not necessarily the scariest, but there was a continuous sense of unease and dread throughout the entire video, Phenomenal work
I like it. I know a lot of people will say it’s “Mandela Catalog copy,” but idc The distortion of the human face is not a design inherent to only Alex Kiester. Anyways You’ve got yourself a very good start, there’s scenes like the shower curtain being pulled that give you a ton of dread. The visual aesthetic is grainy and yucky, which I like. I’d describe this as the beginning to something really amazing Some constructive criticism: - Please avoid the use of jumpscares Let’s say the scene with the shower creeper was done in a different way; the entity very slowly peels the curtain back and lets the viewer get a partial look at the eyes or the face. Just long enough that you’re forced to sit there in absolute terror as this entity does your undoing. - Live action segments were nice, but the sudden cuts to the images of these entities was jarring and felt more like I was looking at a picture of a monster than the monster itself. Again, dread technique could be used again here with the hat wearing fellow; the cameraman spots the entity and jumps back, visibly startled but the entity doesn’t move immediately. Maybe after a few moments it begins walking out of the darkness, potentially revealing a hidden and distorted looking body. Depending on what the origins you have planned for them, I’d suggest either going with the age old “Extended limbs,” method of disfigurement but also consider some alternative options. Imagine if parts of their limbs were like insects or cephalopods? - I’m guessing these are eldritch horrors of some kind like Lovecraft’s monsters, and I feel you could do a lot with the ‘incomprehensible horrors’ approach even if it is analog. Use your imagination for this one. - Play around with the aesthetic, yes it’s grainy and colorless, but imagine bending this in different ways. Like what if there’s a freak out moment and you have some colors present, or heck, a sudden high quality image? It would jump out to viewers and I’d recommend just toying around with various ideas until you find something you believe to be best. I like what you got goin chief, I’d recommend looking at good and bad analog horror stories alike. Good to recognize what you want to do; and bad to see the stuff that you can easily do better on. It’s why artists should watch crappy movies too; you can easily point out “This is garbage! It should be written like this!” Keep it up champ!
Thank you for the great tips, I totally agree with you. Most of the lack of high quality or creative shots are from my lack of equipment or good editing softwares, I've tried my best at starting an Analog horror series by making images and drawings to depict the monsters. I feel like this is showcasing a portion of what the Mandela catalogue alternates are capable of even when they take flawed assimilations. If Alex ever decides to do a Mandela Catalogue Vol. 1 remake, this is exactly how I imagine it would look like. Honestly I think you and Alex should do a collaboration, this was really good animation.
@Untitled I know and It was kinda disappointing. However, the new video he released called “Mandela Catalyst” is crazy and a step in the right direction in the horror aspect.
@@reclaimeddeadI think he didn't show alternates really at all in Vol. 1 remake to make the reveal of the moving alternate in Vol. 333 as the first time they physically appear.
I keep thinking about how good the "What does his face look like?" moment is. The viewer is shown that their task is to identify uncanny faces, but the next question "What does his face look like?" turns this task on its head. You sit there asking yourself, "What? How am I supposed to know what their face looks like if I've never met them?" But then it presents you with the two choices. You DO know his face looks like. You reach for the less-horrifying face choice, but hesitate because you don't know what the consequence is for choosing wrong. So you select the face on the left, and your fear is confirmed - you knew what he looked like before he turned around.

In this analog horror series, we have already seen these entities and know how they look like but when you suddenly censor one of them it makes it much more scary for 3 reasons: 1- Our minds try to fill in the gaps while thinking what could be so bad that it is censored since we have already seen what they can look like, i hope you understand like we have already seen these creatures but when you censor it, we try to imagine what it is in light of the fact that we have already seen bad stuff and they weren't censored, we ask ourselves "What makes this so special that it needs to be censored?" 2- The way the entity moves is uncanny, almost cartoonish like the way it holds on to the shower curtain gripping it like it's ready to pop out and once it peeks it's head out even though it is censored we can still see the movement and it kinda bobs his head like a cartoon character peeking behind something. 3- The music is really hopeless and i don't think i need to explain this one. I think you got some good stuff going here, you got a good sense of how to make something tense- I do have a little advice, if you’re wondering for a direction to take- I think a good way to go is to keep using the sketches of the faces. I think it will help you set in a unique sense of direction. I feel like sketches of distorted faces makes it feel more real and less of just someone editing a face on a computer using photoshop. With a sketch it makes it seem like you actually saw it, or perhaps a police sketch. I was initially surprised with how it just hit you with face after face after face, so it gave you a sense of tension right off the bat, so I thought that was good. Overall, I think you got a good starting point, and I can’t wait to see what you have next.

I hope this isn't trying to be part of the Mandela Catalogue universe, as everyone is comparing it to. This was interesting. I giggled once or twice throughout the video but ultimately this was pretty creepy. The shower curtain scene and the investigation scene, as well as the old man visual at the end were pretty solid. This wasn't all that bad. Gonna check out the rest of the series.
a lot of people always compare every analog horror they see to Mandela catalogue It’s like Mandela is the only exclusive analog horror out there it’s annoying
I love horror absolutely LOVE HORROR I love being scared the thrill of horror movies are amazing but this- I love it and I hate it at the same time it’s given me a panic attack bc I was so scared I love analog horror it unsettles me to a point where I well idk but keep up the good work:)
Overall a really solid analog horror, would love to know the lore behind this and get some sequels. The only thing I’d recommend is to leave more empty space with nothing scary happening in between scary scenes to build tension and ambience. Overall really good though.
People have given enough criticism and tips already, I just want to say how much I liked the scene at 2:47 . It was one of the few jumpscares I've seen in recent times that was done very well. Even though I knew something was coming, I just couldn't avoid focusing on the screen to read the papers on the desk, and when the scare came it was more unexpected than I anticipated, because there was no startling sound or noise, it was just the cameraman turning around randomly to see a disfigured entity (without any jumpscary sudden movements), it truly gave me a surprise the same way you'd be surprised if you were living through that scene, not knowing it's gonna be a horror video later. Well done.
As a few others have said already, this is really just a compilation of stretched faces without any real narrative and without a good eb and flow to it. It's just one scare right after another. To compliment you, however, the shower curtain scene was very good and the effects do look really nice but it's stuff we've seen before. This feels kinda like a rejected Mandela Catalogue episode to be honest. I'm glad you seem to take this criticism (not just mine, but others) in stride however and your most recent episode is much better. Keep at it, man
The distorted faces as still images for a sudden jump scare don't really do it for me but I genuinely like it when you are using them to build suspense like at 1:001:45 and 4:10. The slow build up and seeing these creatures in a video recording format is great.

My roommate was asking me a question while I played this and as I turned, a jumpscare occurred and I screamed “FUCK!” And I died laughing because she was like you good? I said that a jumpscare occurred when she was asking me a question
i showed my mom this to prove that analog horror was scary and she said it’s not??? (this is the scariest thing I’ve ever watched)

1st,
Also very interesting
One of my favorite analog horror videos. All I need now is a new pair of underwear and counseling.
All jokes aside, this is good stuff. Keep it up!

Lol, yea💀
"And if I... *demonic noises..."
Me: Well, if you do *THAT,* I'm just gonna have to Fast Track that head canoe application, (*cocks hammer), POST HASTE!!
Nothing to do with the Mandela catalogue, I was inspired by it but Basswood County is not related to it, thank you for liking it!
a lot of people always compare every analog horror they see to Mandela catalogue
It’s like Mandela is the only exclusive analog horror out there it’s annoying
This is absolutely one of the best analog horrors ive seen so far
my cats usually watch baby sensory videos but today i wanted to prank them
2:09 instead of the "homework folder", we should label it "visual hazard". Quite a cool band name idea, too.
Yea, seems like analog horror
I love horror absolutely LOVE HORROR I love being scared the thrill of horror movies are amazing but this- I love it and I hate it at the same time it’s given me a panic attack bc I was so scared I love analog horror it unsettles me to a point where I well idk but keep up the good work:)
Anyone know where I can find more music like the piece in this video? Kinda old-timey but weirdly uncanny? It's bizarrely creepy and I kinda love it.
this is legit from everywhere at the end of time
@@Icy1256 Ooh, thank you! I don't suppose you know what the exact track is called? It's been stuck in my head for days.
that was. wow. the shower one got me, i kept covering and uncovering my eyes. i loved this.

Overall a really solid analog horror, would love to know the lore behind this and get some sequels. The only thing I’d recommend is to leave more empty space with nothing scary happening in between scary scenes to build tension and ambience. Overall really good though.
0:05 so tru
I think we found out what a realistic Gaster would look like.
Oh my scary
This is way better than Mandela Catalouge
That not scary
0:52 "i love you lacey" looking ahhhh man 😭 🙏🏾
People have given enough criticism and tips already, I just want to say how much I liked the scene at 2:47 .
Well done.
4:30 man said poggers 2:47 is just my mom when I talk back to her. mans was aghast lmao
The urge to download this onto this onto a VCR tape and put it into a goodwill.
good job, had me on edge despite the lack of movement, if someone took this and really animated these super freaks i might of crapoed my pants.
Video: “We can hear you”
Me: * taking a dump * 🤨
As a few others have said already, this is really just a compilation of stretched faces without any real narrative and without a good eb and flow to it. It's just one scare right after another.
To compliment you, however, the shower curtain scene was very good and the effects do look really nice but it's stuff we've seen before. This feels kinda like a rejected Mandela Catalogue episode to be honest. I'm glad you seem to take this criticism (not just mine, but others) in stride however and your most recent episode is much better. Keep at it, man
I like that unlike most analog horrors, we dont wait for the scariness to build up, it starts immediately.
The distorted faces as still images for a sudden jump scare don't really do it for me but I genuinely like it when you are using them to build suspense like at 1:00 1:45 and 4:10. The slow build up and seeing these creatures in a video recording format is great.
I am rating Analog Horror by how scary the videos are.
This is a 7/10
It was pretty creepy but had a lot of potential for jumpscares.
