The superconductor used on knives and stuff is real superconduncting material. It's a bunch of titanium-niobium alloy wires in a copper matrix. It starts as a fat block that gets drawn down into a fine wire over many steps. At each drawing step there are short sections at the ends where the machines grip it that don't get drawn down. Most of what we see is those leftover bits. And then there was a whole bunch that came from the Superconducting Supercollider project in Texas that got cancelled before it was finished.
I’m a desk jock. I used to do stagehand and I part time valet. I only need a flashlight and my AirPod. I carry roxxn ks2 elite for fun because I want a pocket knife focus multitool I switch my watch everyday
Lightweight: The midnight manager might be too much of a compromise (especially on the blade, even though I have used one to open a tin can). So I prefer the Fox Vulpis instead.
As for the scales. Yes, micarta is light but it is less structural. With titanium you can get something like the Boker Urban FR (Brad Zinker). To me, that is the quintessential lightweight knife.
More of a suggestion rather than a complaint, but I think it would help. When you show the submissions, it would be nice if you could get close up so we could really see what’s there. It’s fine as a small picture far away, but I very quickly got bored and wanted to fast-forward through the talking about each submission. Not because what was being said is boring but it would just be great to see a close-up of each item if that’s somehow possible. I love the show though so don’t get me wrong. I’m not being weird or complaining.
Not a fan of patina (so no copper for me) and so I choose gear that shows wear less (e.g.: silver alox SAK rather than colored). I also take really good care of my gear. Make sure it does not scratch when carrying and clean it after use. Equating patina with use feels really dumb.
rare materials: Tungsten. You have the odd tungsten carbide glass breakers but this material is so expensive and so heavy its seldom ever seen. I want a solid tungsten pen. I think there was a Kickstarter a wingback tungsten carbide finished pen a while back as part of the 'black steel' series. Being second in hardness to diamond, this is the final boss for machinists trying to manufacture a pen casing. I think Bernard would like the Big Idea Design Ti Lookout Fixed Blade.
Haha Mikey actually owns the Lookout! But if I were to carry one, I think that one would be up my alley for sure. Tungsten is a good answer too, it's so heavy, idk if I could do that in a pen haha
@CarriedAwayPodcast yeah the carrying of it would definitely not be ideal but the writing experience would be amazing i reckon. Maybe reserved for a pen that exclusively lives on the desk
I love how someone finds the channel boring but takes the time to comment it is boring - my grandfather would tell me when I was bored “it is your fucking fault you are bored, no one is here to entertain you - if you are bored that’s on you, go get a life, develop some passion and interests and stop waiting for shit to happen” sometimes if I even looked bored he would put me to work with the most mundane tasks and after an hour he would ask if I was bored and I quickly learned that value at any level can only be developed intrinsically
There's a lot of talking involved but nothing is being shown or Item that you guys are talking about not that interesting to watch sorry but your'e show is boring .
@ShiroyamaHayashi i dont think you understood. I mean i will wait here for you to find because im confident one doesnt exsist. Im not bored watching this show at all i watch dozens of podcasts and this is my favorite.

Totally, I think wear and patina is fine but it doesn’t tell the whole story!

I would add the Boker knives made from old stuff (like the Sherman tank and what not).
Oh and mammoth tooth is also pretty rare (Andre Perret likes to use that)
Sandrin Knifes uses tungsten carbide as the blade material so that could be something you might be interested in @heathwerrett33
