    Well, Sir, the fact that you share this story to others greatly indicates what a good person and good businessman you are. The fact that you don't want others to make the same mistakes as you did really deserves respect. I've been buying stuff from your store because I've found that you've got the best price compared to other stores, and your customer service is exceptional. And I'll keep buying things from you unless you don't have the items that I'm looking for. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sir!

    Hi Steve, as someone who has been into your store and also just looking at this video you have a lot of items in store that are either not on your website or you need to search to find it. Examples all through this video and if you check your website for the finger tabs available online and review this video you will see at least 3 examples. Hope this is helpful to you and helps get some of these items moving for you.

    You are right Steve. Stocking too much products which are slow moving isn't the right way to go about it. In 1994 till the year 2000 I was in archery business. Sales were hot in the beginning but gradually becomes slow unless I have to do archery sports promotion and backup services to keep the sports alive. I have to organize competitions as well. In those days the bows weren't as good as today's and Easton alluminium arrows were very popular. I only mark up 30% for each bow I sold but made better profits on services at golf and country clubs. Mathews, PSE, Hoyt, Martin, Macpherson and Jennings were popular in those days while brands like Bowtech, Topoint, Junxing and others were unheard of. I had to sell away my business in 2000 as the profit margin gets smaller and smaller.

    Thanks Steve, great vid. Dead stock is a shit thing to deal with and the hype a rep can put into a product is unbelievable. I watch the fishos at work chubb up at new colours in lures and spend heaps to get a new range into a few stores I have worked in. I am starting small with the archery get myself but will be sticking mainly to hunting. Good luck shifting the gear.

    One idea, instead of throwing product that wont sell and is practically worthless in the bin, give them away as trinkets to customers, or just dump them in a bin in the store and let any paying customer get something from it for free. Might be a fun thing to do with them instead of dumping it in the trash. Like the broadheads, maybe nobody wants them as broadhead, but if you get one for free as a trinket, maybe throw it on a keychain or something. Just a thought. :)

    I mean, it's one thing to buy 10 things and not know if it is going to sell or not. It's something completely different if you have been working in a shop and you know the most common type of equipment sold (think multi pin sights, certain brand of arrows etc.) and buying lots of those because you know it's common to sell in the store and therefore buy a lot.

    It really sucks being a left handed archer.. Nobody wants to stock stuff for us.. Both of the local archery shops to me,have no left handed bows.. Like none !! Well theres one bow and its a kids compound that's 20lbs draw weight but that's it.. Ive heard that some company's now aren't even bothered making there bows in Left handed variants as the market for them is so small.. Us leftys cant catch a break !!

    It’s scary. I want to set up a small shop with inventory over here but it’s so hard to pick what sells and then getting that first buy in. Takes time to get the cash on hand to get that first order on. Some days I’m finding people want in then and there and don’t want to order and will go elsewhere to get it now. Then other times people will wait for an item.

    • @scotteger6271
      @scotteger6271 4 года назад

      I've thought about this a lot over the past couple of years and you're right its scary. I think what I've learned from Steven is that you can't expect a profit from your business you have to treat anything you make as future investment money. Therefore, you would have to have the money up front to order and your not paying on credit lines and not selling product. The other big challenge is the over saturation of brands. It seemed like just a few years ago the territory for a brand was large in America than it seems to be now, thus creating more competition within a smaller radius.

    As an experiment, you should switch the location of the Cartel and Fairweather tabs and see if having the tabs in the optimal sight-line gets them to move. Let me know how that goes. Take into account that January is a bad retail month.

    Hello, Do you know about the Pareto law ? This law is applied in grand distribution shops such as Decathlon, 20% of their products makes 80% of their profits, so they make sure to always have this ratio in stock and very little of the rest... I got this info from a Decathlon manager. Cheers

      I think he’s obviously doing well if he’s buying shipping containers from Junxing but I get the feeling there’s a lot of him in that store - his personality, his social networking over decades (not in a sterile way), and his deep deep knowledge. His store is bright, inviting, and full. It’s clear he’s got everything you need or close enough and perhaps even a sizable indoor shooting space. He mentions winning a youth tournament so he might be a bit of minor subculture celebrity. All this to say his shop is a destination.
      It’s also clear he has the money to make the mistakes and I cannot stress this enough. Whether it’s a good line of credit with a bank, great existing cash flow providing wiggle room off his own archery experience, or a lot of start up capital (family, previous occupation, etc). He can afford to fail and learn and get the right amount of stock for items. Your room for failure is probably one of the least talked about but most important parts of success in a business.
      It also seems like he’s got a big warehouse. He’s shipping more volume so perhaps he’s importing for other shops and getting bulk discounts. If your a supplier you get insight into what other stores sell. That’s valuable industry data. It’s also probably the reason he can support his own web store which greatly extends his reach.
      He obviously stays on top of the latest gear so he can speak confidently and more importantly put a new archer in the right gear at the right price. It helps he engages with Topoint and Junxing so he can speak about all the Amazon bows and convince buys to get their Junxing m128 or m125 from him because he didn’t ask Junxing to skimp on construction with cheap aluminum or plastic modules; all meaning he can trade in on earned trust with the consumer Aka someone will pay $40+ over the Amazon price.
      He’s created a real destination. Hell just from watching his RUclips videos I want to buy from him! But I’m a across the pond and his insight into Chinese bows has been invaluable.
      Finally If he does have a nice indoor shooting space he can bring in customers through archery classes, sponsored tournaments (win and get X gear), tune ups which a great time to sell tuned arrows, and even just a regular shooting club.
      But hey maybe I’m off the mark this is all shit I’ve gleaned from watching his reviews and other videos (another potential source of customers as well!) it’s my instinct from what I’ve watched

    Why not bundle those tabs with a cheap recurve.
    Same with the Tight Spot quiver, bundle them as a hunting package with a bow
    Maybe some clubs may be interested in purchasing a couple of left handed bows as club bows? Same with the tabs

  • @OpiatesAndTits
    @OpiatesAndTits 2 года назад

    You get enough foot traffic to seek $4 $100 AUD tabs a week? That’s wild to me. Even the $25 AUD tabs (not sure what the conversion rates been) is like $18 USD. I’m skeptical anyone is spending more than $6 USD on Amazon for their first recurve tab if anything at all because it comes in a Topoint or Junxing kit.
    I’m curious is there just a big archery community around you or do you do mostly online sales?

    For real though ok man I would like to try stabilizers man they are to expensive to try an an archery shops in Florida suck

    • @renatugaming5730
      @renatugaming5730 3 года назад

      I would suggest buying a certain stabilizer set that is within your budget. The main reason stabilizers are based on preferance is weight, which usually with brands like cartel you can buy seperate weights. Do you like that zero balance? Do you like a little heavier on the back? Do you like 2 side bars or one? Long bars or shorter bars? These are questions that up to you to answer. Typically, shooters that don't hunt run their stabilizers longer than their draw length, but to achieve zero balance( bow REALLY wants to stay still) you don't need as much weight on the front. If you want zero balance, the formula is front rod* weight of front rod/length of back bar(s) this will give you the weight you need to get a zero balance where the bow stays still in the hand. Usually this is a good starting point and then you can play around with weights later. The weights are usually cheaper than the rod, so keep that in mind since getting many bars at different lengths would be expensive...

  • @maxstepaniuk4355
    @maxstepaniuk4355 4 года назад

    Throwing in a bin is such a waste. Give it a way if it's a dead weight. I am currently organizing archery club in Ukraine and this kind of a waste seems horrible when you have a club budget smaller than the price of new generation Hoyt compound bow.
