I didn’t search this video but I needed it. LONGEST video I’ve ever watched and well worth it. Thanks. Subbed
Thanks for the sub Derek! Yeah I tend to take a long time to make a point 🤪
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I don't think u take a long time to make a point, but rather that u make sure anyone can understand how to do it and why.... I appreciate that I'm also new to lightburn and laser engraving
This was great! I learned a ton. I’ve been doing things the hard way. This will definitely help.
Glad it was helpful Brent!

You bet Tom!
Another great video Rich thank you 👍
Glad you enjoyed it George!
Thanks again for your very well done videos. I feel like I have enrolled in a design class
Awesome Ron! Thanks! 👍
Well that was a great learning fun video, ok it took me over an hour to watch the whole thing as I was following you step by step (and making a few boo boos) but one I saw where I went wrong it was so easy, Towards the end when you were saying about the squares and welding them for different shapes. I tried that and then threw a pic in the middle and it came out great, I have saved it and that will be a run of coasters when I get my laser sorted.
I saw that pic you sent me! It came out awesome Ian!
excellent video can't wait to get started
Awesome, have fun! 👍
Thank you 🙏 you are fantastic, soon I will have guts enough to try 😊
You got this Charlotte!
Many thanks for your incredible video tutorials

Glad you liked it Randal!
Great ideas to build on.
Glad you think so!
You make it look simple 😳 but not simple for the old non tech savvy beginner!😅
It'll get easier the more you do it
I second that initial comment
Follow along Kathy!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy oh i am! And i do learn a lot from you over any other videos
Great tutorial Rich. I haven't tried selling monogrammed coasters yet though I have sold a bunch with business logos on them. I guess it's time to try and sell some different coasters. Thanks for the video!
Go for it George!
You are amazing. Thank you!!
Happy to help!
Greetings from the UK, loving the channel I so need a Co2 laser
Welcome aboard David! Everyone needs a Co2! 😎
Thanks for my daily lesson.
My pleasure Michael! Glad you enjoyed it!
Another good video. I know comments help with the engagement so just wanted to give you a comment that demonstrated appreciation.
Thanks for that!
I was actually able to create this very effect on my own, but when I was done, I had no idea what it was I had done to get the effect I was shooting for. So basically, I accidently stumbled onto it. Unfortunately, in further attempts, I was unable to recreate the desired effect. Thank you so much for making this video. Now I can recreate this effect at will. Thaaaaaannnnnk You!
My pleasure Greg! That makes me so happy that you can recreate it! 👍
That is so crazy when try this and that then get it right and u dunno what u did 😂😂
Great ideas!
Thanks so much Fred!
Thank you so much, onto the next video😄😄😄😄🙏🙏 number 10
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the support! 👍
If you're wondering how I finish the slate, I use Shellac. It has the nicest shine and lasts a very long time! Shop my Amazon Store for focused laser products! www.amazon.com/shop/thelouisianahobbyguy
Thank you for making it easier, I started with vinyl using Inkscape. Lightburn is much easier or maybe it’s your videos that make it easier to learn.
You're welcome Peggy 😊 Pretty sure it's the software!
It's the software.. also Rich is a very good teacher
Fantastic topic!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I've been following your channel for quite a while. I'm REALLY stoked that you got a co2 very similar to one I just purchased. You really are a fantastic teacher and I really learn a lot from your channel.
@@ClintonCaraway-CNC Awesome! Thank you. Co2 videos coming soon!
Been doing it on coasters. Have big order for a wedding
The big orders are the best Jeff!
Thanks another great video from TLHG
Glad you enjoyed it Stuart!
Thanks!
You bet Sam! Thanks for the support!
Thanks for the step by step and going at a pace where a person who has no knowlege of the software can keep up. To do the slate coasters what is the best settings, I have a 10w laser by X tool
Best settings are achieved by doing a test grid Erica.
Very good pace at which he dies the videos and explains it well. 👌
Hello my friend, I watched your video early in the morning and decided to try this incredible class. It is perfect. I made it with my name and the names of my seven dogs..lol.. :) thank you very much.
I'm so happy to hear that Andre!
Thanks for the video’s new here trying to move away from my cabinet shop and getting older and cabinets aren’t getting any lighter just don’t know where to start
You can do it!
Thanks
Thanks Robert! And thanks so much for the support! 👍
Hi Richard
I have learned a considerable amount from your videos, thank you for your time.
One question I have in regards to this video.
Once you place the box over the large text/letter and use the boolean assistance it appears that you can't select that letter and change it.
Unless I'm doing something wrong, it appears you have to create 26 of these, one for each letter.
Again thanks for your guidance.
Bill
I'm only working with one letter at a time.
Perfect timing. Just received my boxes with 500 slate coasters.
Where do you get your coasters from?
Would like to know as well. Ordered some from Michaels and the edge was so bad that I bet over 50% were unusable due to not enough flat surface to engrave.
Have fun with it Thomas!
Did you call then John? I just got 2 cases and they were perfect.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I didn’t I tried to use a few so I didn’t want to complain.
Hey rich im just about to get myself a sculpfun s9 and was wondering what settings i should have set, like should i have the mm/min inches/min or inches/mm/min. Any help would be appreciated and thanks for all the tutorials on all the videos its been a big help :)
That's completely up to you. mm/min is the standard for diode lasers.
Great video! Another popular monogram design is to do a knockout offset of the names in the middle by deleting the offset.
Do you happen to have a source to share for slate coasters?
Thanks for the tip! I'll try that!
Thank u Rich that was very insightful. Can u pleasedo a video where letters are cut out or contoured example Mr & Mrs Adams for decor at the main table
I have a lot on the schedule right now Ursula.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy I understand. Thank u Rich your tutorials are always very helpful 🌹👌
Hi Rich I am learning so much from you and thanks for that, also I have been trying to sign up on the forums but cant send to get the confirmation email to finish the setup thanks in advance.
It's fixed now, so just send me an email and I'll activate it for you. thelahobbyguy@gmail.com
so I just today got lightburn I am using an Atomstak A5 Pro+ on problem is the software power in lightburn gos unlimited and in Atomstack its showing S max at 1000 or less i am having trouble getting it as black as I could in laserGRBL any ideas?
No, the S-Value Max is simply telling the laser to output 100% if it is set to 1000. The difference in the burn is some other cause. They both use the same Gcode.
HI, i have been trying to do these on slate, but the burn is black with a white outline, someone said to put the txt to negative but cant see where to do that as i thought thats for images, i clicked bitmap and now its greyscale which seemed to work, any help would be greta
Offset the layer to change the text. Go to 9:00 to see how I inverted the text.
Another great video, very inspirational. With wooden products, is grain direction something to be considered?
I am thinking about the durability of items that have holes near the edges, that aren't made in plywood.
Yes, absolutely, I almost always have the grain vertical.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy thank you.
I just got lightburn I really am hoping you can give me some advice.
I am trying to make three circle offset but then cut the middle two sides out. any advice please
Put the circle you want to cut on another layer and set it to line, and then set your speed and power Wendy.
Tried several times to follow your steps but after adding the circle my preview in fill mode is totally black - please help
I can't tell you any better than I showed in the video George.
I really enjoy your videos I have a question I finally got lightburn to see xtool d1 5watt I was able to move laser module with mouse by pointing to different spots in work window then I was gonna try and engrave one of your monograms I put it in work window framed it several times till I got everything lined out so I hit play and it went to start point and nothing then I couldn’t get it to do anything
xTool is filled with bugs Russ, you'll have to contact their support... good luck with that 🤪 since it's virtually non-existent.
Is there any way to make a recess/pocket in the capital letter so that the offset of the spelled out name will fit into it (going for a stacked layers)? I am trying to figure out how to do this without burning the offset portion that isn't part of the capital letter. By the way I just got my laser and your videos have been a great help with learning how to use it, so thank you for that.
Too hard to answer in a RUclips comment, sorry.
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy Thank you for replying, I know it would be difficult. I figured it out. Thanks again for the reply, you are an excellent source for the newbies.
How do you know where do place your image on the workspace to be burned?
Watch my Lightburn College playlist.
100% as always 👍
Thanks again Thomas!
Does the bullseye icon center the images?
Bullseye centers one item onto another.
Hi Rich.. I am trying, to recreate your stunning work, by following the video step by step. But.... When you switch mode on the cuts and layer tab, it changes what we see on the workspace.. Is there a setting for that, somewhere ? I have to go to the preview icon, to see what is happening.. It looks so easy, when you do it.. Keep the videos coming - they are superb... Cheers from Denmark..
Hi Rich.. It's me again... 🙂 I just saw a video you made about one year ago, a FAQ, on lightburn... There you very precisely describe my problem, and how to resolve it... So thank you again, for the brilliant videos... Keep then coming..
Great! Glad you found it!
do you have a video where you show how to cut these monograms by chance? I am new to this and I don't know how to cut wood with the laser yet, trying to find information about it, but I can't find any video. I would like to know what settings the set
You run a test card to get your settings on the material you're going to use.
You should Slant the name on the letter.
Wish I could tell you live, lol
Owell, You have inspired me with so many Ideas. I want to watch ALL of your vids. Just So Many! few everyday.
Do it any way you want Jason! This is just a design tutorial.
@The Louisiana Hobby Guy Yes sir I know, JUST got my laser in Yesterday, Burned anything that would fit. lol
Zero Ideas on where to begin starting with speed and power on each material,
Wish there was a place, that showed 10 watt laser, basswood start with xxxx/xx% and adjust accordingly. Leather start .... u get the pic.
I got the Longer ray 5 10 w.
But having fun. Tried for a Christmas gift. lol 😆 Guess I'm buying a gift last min.
Next year maybe 👍🏻
Here ya go Jason: ruclips.net/video/RiFJiLDj9Rs/видео.html
How do I get bullion assistance to work-mine is dimmed (not available)
It is only available when two objects are selected Tina.
How you doing bro? Thanks for the videos. Question on the using the Boolean Assistance. First let me tell you what I’m trying to do. I use 10 mil Duralar clear film to cut stencils out for Airbrushing on T-shirts. So I create bridge in images or even text so certain pieces of the image or text stay together, most when I’m cutting for the positive part of the image. Sometimes i can use the Boolean Assistance and sometimes I can’t, mostly when I am doing letters and making bridges on them. What would be the fastest way to make these bridges? Also, the weld tool and Boolean assistance won’t be lit up when i want to use them. Just a big headache bro, I watch all your videos and everything seems to flow for you, but not for me lol. I would really appreciate your feedback bro. Thank you.
The item(s) has to be ungrouped to use this feature, and some others, and you can only do 2 items at any one time.
Can you do a multi layer design tutorial? Like that 8 layer cross for example
I have one on my list, but definitely not the cross. That would be a 40 hour video! 🤪
Just the second day of owning a laser, my 1st. Ortuo master pro 3. Have watch this video to help with a MAJOR learning curve. Have not been able to figure how to make the 2 horizontal bars about and below the name MARTIN. Can you send me somewhere to get some help?
Also when you have the finished design and saved, can the layout be changed to a different initial without have to start from scratch? Tanks ahead of time!!
Sure, head on over to my free Forum and you'll get all the help you need!
lahobbyguy.com/bb/
´Buenos días desde España, muy buena explicación, cosa que desconocía para algún proyecto que quera hacer con mi laser.
un abrazo
¡Mi placer! Gracias por ver y el comentario!
How do you center the word MARTIN?
Select the word, hold shift and select the item you want to center it on, and click on the bullseye icon.
in the cnc world its called stacked text.
Awesome... now if only I can remember that! 🤪
Tried a few times to register on your website with no luck, I fill the registration form out but never receive a email..........
The mail server has been fixed. Email me and I'll activate the account. thelahobbyguy@gmail.com
So why don’t you do marketplace now?
No Sherry, I stopped doing all sales except for one art gallery and a few long time special clients. The gallery is closing this month so I won't be doing that anymore either. I'm getting too old to work so much in my retirement and I need to spend more time with the family.
With Williams why not just make it negative
You can do it any way you wish Merrill!
Waaaaait, that’s not how the one looked at the beginning 🤔😢
Because it was designed from scratch?
@@TheLouisianaHobbyGuy huh? i thought you designed the one at the beginning too. but when you said "now it looks like it did in the beginning", it didn't have the solid lines that go above and below the name. I wish I could've learned that. 💗
