I've always felt the deconstructing of Master Chief in the show was similar to how Skywalker was handled in TLJ.

Apparently the show runners didn’t see the Mandolorian ether as he was relatable even though he only took off his helmet twice in two seasons.
Alas, it is an unfortunate trend in modern writing to not write paragon heroes and to tear down the ones that already exist. As it’s considered to be unrealistic for anyone to be that purely good. Which completely misses the point of paragons, as they’re supposed to be something to reach for, to inspire to be. They can have struggles, and drama, but if you remove all that’s good about a paragon, then your left with someone who’s just down in the muck with the rest of us and saids that’s we can’t be better than we already are, which is honestly very depressing.

This hits the nail on the head so hard. The worst part is that the showrunners think they are clever. They are not. Their show is a disgrace, and they should be embarrassed. I want them to feel the weight of the disservice they have done. I want them to regret it.

7:46 - I think you're wrong about what the problem is here. The problem isn't the attempt to deconstruct Chief. The problem isn't attempting to humanize him. The problem isn't about showing his internal conflict. It's how all of this stuff is done. There's nothing wrong with having Chief be conflicted in some way about having been stolen away from his home. Or questioning his humanity. But at the end of the day he has to put on his armour and kill whatever Covenant son of a bitch gets in his way because that's how he saves humanity. And that comes first for him.
So there's nothing wrong with having this internal conflict or showing his dark side. But at the end of the day, the desire to protect humanity should always win out over his personal concerns. And the personal concerns should be there to deepen the character and make him emotionally engaging, they should not replace the main plot as the driver of the story.

This issue with indoctrination has been handled in lore before. An example of this would be Daisy. She wanted to escape UNSC. She tried to but returned realizing she had to do her part. She wasn't alone in that decision. Pretty sure many other Spartans felt the same. They could have mentioned this in the show and the Chief's point of view on it. This way they could have given more lesser-known Spartans to be their own character. For some reason 343 just wants Master chief to be the chosen one. But in lore, he is only speciality was being lucky.

  • @zackiechan7895

A big issue for chief's characters in the show is that the show runners followed the same narrative trend that has been largely prevalent for the past decade. If you've had something bad happen to you, your a victim and nothing else. Not allowing those terrible things that happened to you define you goes against the main tenant of victimhood. So how can you be the master chief let alone the hero for humanity?
Plus, this show has/sets up a lot of the themes that were around in halo 5. Someone at 343 had to sign off on this script (I believe it was Kiki wolf?) so in my mind the dropped story arc that Halo was going in after 5 is still a topic of tension and shows me that all the info about how divided 343 is partially true.

Had I not seen The Mandalorian, I would have probably agreed with the show writers because I wouldn't have known how to tell a story w/o the actors face being shown constantly. But when you see what actually talented writers are capable of and how they used the fact that he doesn't take off his helmet to actually make the story better. Also, how they made the few times he did reveal his face have so much impact.

  • @calebford6318
    @calebford6318 4 месяца назад +1

There was no adaptation. The show runners had a story they wanted to tell. They simply use an existing IP to cater to a built in audience. They didn’t care if that audience hated the show. They made some elements look like halo. It was never halo.

Having the helmet ON pulls you in. It makes you curious and hunger to connect. Rather than being TOLD what their expression is. In that way, a mask or helmet can pull a viewer in much more to empathize with a character.

I have to be care full how I write my com mnent, because Yeeoo Toob is on a massive bahn spree if they don't like what you say, so here goes:
One of the biggest problems of Halo is that the environment is like 70% of the story. The only studios with the money to do the franchise right, might be Disney, and WB, and......that's it?. The story would easily span a trilogy, of which the first installment would have to be Master Chief's origin (like 1/3 of the movie), then the 2nd portion the beginnings of the Covenant war, and the last 3rd getting to know the crew of the Autumn, and Cortana. Film ends at Installation 4, as we are awed by the sheer massive beauty of the ring.
2nd film would have been CE adapted to film. The struggle of the Autumn's crew to fight and survive, as a B story along Chief and Cortana. 3rd film wrap things up, basically the way Halo 3 ended.
They would have probably been the most expensive movies to film in the history of movie making. No studio wants to take that risk. So what to do? Hmm, there's a market for his Halo stuff, but we don't want to spend 500 million per film. Ok, let's do a TV show then! We have an excuse to make it more "down to Earth". But down to Earth the Halo franchise it is not. It is a balls to the wall survival story from beginning to end. I think they spent 10 million per episode on the dreck we got? I can't imagine the cost to do it right. So the studio basically said "ok, we know the name will get us 30%-50% more views than if we just start a new IP, and who cares what the basement dwellers think, let them complain".
Enter the writers: Most of them replacing older seasoned writers. Most of the new ones freshly minted off Marckszist curriculums that blame man for everything. And especially Huaite men. Hence we can't have the Huite man be the hero. He has to be the villain. And that's essentially what Chief was in that series: a man with internal conflict who was his own worst enemy. But as expected, he does not defeat his own enemy. Rather, he is defeated by having Cortana take him over by remote control, and "Cortana" is the real hero of the story, defeating this Huite man with her girl power.
Shrecks scenes are a cheap and dirty way for writers to show a couple is "in love", and I think it's because they actually don't know what it's like to love someone on a deeper level. "Love" to these people, is that pleasure hit of the orch chasm with that other "hot" person they are pumping, and that comes across so blatantly in most media today, at least since 2000.
To add insult to injury. They have to do a self insert character. Enter Kwon. She's exactly what the writers think they are in real life. Warriors for sozial Jusstisse. To anyone who's same, she (and they) just come accross as a whiny little bee ch.
