Great content! Thanks for not adding background music. These days it's so hard to listen to RUclipsrs over their BGM.

The comment about buying from small batch/indie designers resonated with me. This is what I've started doing and it makes me so feel so much happier and passionate about each piece like each one has a unique story. They usually cost a lot more but I don't mind when I know I'm supporting a designer/creator directly. One thing that is nice too is that the desire to buy really stops once you cut it off and it's actually easy. I have done a very low buy for 12 months now and it's made me really appreciate what I have and I don't feel that *need* to have new things all the time anymore

I've stopped buying clothes for myself for 3 years. There are even clothes I've had since junior high school and they're still in good shape because they're well-groomed. but recently my husband gave me a tshirt. I just feel claustrophobic seeing too many clothes in my closet.

I had this epiphany recently! basically I have 200$ left for this month budget. I was wondering should I buy clothes or experience aka went to art gallery & aquarium sight seeing. I was very tempted to buy new clothes cuz I've been waiting for it to be on sale. so im thinking and thinking, I chose the experience. and oh myyy that was the best decision ever. eventually I'm not eager to have that clothes anymore. I might buy on my next paycheck. that's my plan 😂

This is awesome thank you. I'm trying a low buy year for 2024, and clothing is also in my no spend category!

Thanks for sharing. I finally quit my makeup purchase addiction. Now I’m trying to beat my clothes addiction. Like you I have lots of clothes unworn or even with tags. I’m utilizing my makeup and clothes now to get creative w clothes and makeup. !
I don’t dye my hair anymore and bought tools to do myself. At home wax, nails etc. it’s been rewarding.
If I need new clothes I will get a bargain from mercari or Poshmark. (The savers and goodwill by me are so expensive in my opinion. I’d rather save time and money on gas from looking in store and shop online)

I so needed this. Retired on fixed income and still buying clothes. Addicted to fashion videos. Thank you. Hope I can stop buying. I do wear my clothes but I have more than I need.

I read somewhere one of the main points about addictive shopping is realising shopping is not a hobby. Our present society has forgotten about hobbies, because they "just" bring joy, no money, popularity or success. Some people are shopping just in order to feel something: excitement, happiness, maybe even hope ("If I dress that garment, I'll feel prettier/intelligent/powerful". That person is mostly buying a dream).

Great job not buying clothes for 6 months! I know you were tempted to buy so many things throughout the 6 months but didn't go through with buying it. Keep it up!

When you look at yourself and all your stuff and see too much of everything, there’s a problem. I went through it. There are better things to do than buying clothes and shoes and duplicates and variations. Don’t waste your time and money shopping for stuff, you’ll never use or wear it all. You’re not missing anything when you cool down your shopping problem.

I did an inventory of my wardrobe and love it I found I was missing a lot of 100% linen items I wanted to add more to my wardrobe so for 6 months I could only buy linen which worked out great I didn’t go crazy with my purchases I brought 5 items that were 100% linen two linen dresses 1 shirt one trouser and 1 linen jacket. Half of my wardrobe is either cotton or linen & cotton blend and now linen

I started thinking as well: this costs X, which means I have to work Y hours to buy this. Is this worthy of my work time?

This was a really interesting video, with some really good tips! I'm doing a low buy this year, where I'm still allowed to spend money, but clothes are a no-no. I'm not going to buy any clothes for myself this year, and hopefully also get rid of some of the excess that I have :)

I think for me the most important change was to educate myself on my colour season and kibbe body type.
For example I am soft summer colour season (muted and slightly cool), my body type is dramatic classic so I look the best in this simple sleek chic style with straight lines.
So I only buy clothes for my colour season and for my body type, I removed clothes that didn't look good on me, embroidery, geometric patterns etc., oversized fit etc. Now, everything in my wardrobe looks great on me.
Also I focus on what I spend most of my time in. I work from home, so it's mainly loungewear, pyjama, and walking/yoga outfits. Before I used to buy a lot of occasion wear and didn't have nice clothes for home which is what I wore 90% of the time.

I haven't purchased new clothes since I was in college (~9 years). I thrift every now and then, but I never find anything that's like "I gotta have that!". It got to the point that my family decided to buy me some new clothes for Xmas. 😂
Edit: I lied. I bought some climbing pants last year 😅. Not much else though! :)

I have always hated shopping (to the point my mom rejoiced when i said i needed clothes and was willing to suffer through an hour or two lol) but have been buying clothes pretty regularly this past year with plans of continuing next. Reason for this is pretty much all my clothes (with the exception of a few tshirts)have reached "too worn out for work" stage. Many of them were low quality fast fasion items that lasted longer than their expected lifespan, so ive been replacing them with higher quality items. Online shopping has kinda been fun as i hunt for the right pieces to invest in. The best part is i have begun consiously recognizeing my style and have been exercising the muscle of knowing what works with my style and will be worn vs languish in the back of my closet.
100% have plans of starting to sew & knit some items but havent gotten beyond shawls. Will be casting on a shirt soon and looking forward to it.

That jumpsuit, you could have cut the legs and made them into shorts. That would be really cute and more wearable in warm weather. Just sayin'......Have fun today.

I don’t wear the same thing twice. Never have. So I couldn’t do that. But I wear designer clothing, so I can always resale easily. Ive spent thousands on a single pair of pants before. Louis Vuitton, Versace, Chanel and Prada are very addicting for me. Lol
