Could Coltrane have imagined that his music would have such a strong influence on jazz musicians almost 50 years after his death? Where to now, Saint John???
So does Bob Sheppard, who in fact is a more experienced musician than even Rogers is. And Hass' interaction with both of them is just incredible. Hamilton Price is rock solid. The whole quartet is just brilliant.
These guys are really making music. I love hearing jazz standards played by high level musicians because it's music that I'm familiar with and I can relate to their choices in relation to the tune. Hass is quite simply one of the greatest all around drummers in the world, as Adam is on the guitar. Both play all styles as well as they play jazz. It knocks me out.
I don't think you could POSSibly swing harder than this rhythm section is swingin'... + Great solos from Rogers & Sheppard.. amaaazzzzing !! Improvising on a VERRRY high level.
lo escribì en el calor del momento, miles es un grandìsimo mùsico, sòlo que no es el jazz que màs me atrae; el quinteto con coltrane es increìble, saludos

Claymor are you talking about Bob Sheppard or Adam Rogers? In either case, they both solo for six minutes a piece. That's a lot of time, so yes they might repeat some phrasing. But then again, it could be intentional to resolve the solo in the manner close to how they started. Anyway, it doesn't matter because they both sound great.
why are you apologizing? You don't have to like it. I don't see why you would go out of your way to embarrass yourself though. This opinion only proves you know nothing about highly regarded and well played music. This is jazz played as well as it can be played. Next time, just say you don't like it to yourself and don't post it publicly. Only makes you look ignorant to what good music actually is.
It's a good session but when you really listen close Adam is smoking the band on the time and dialogue;NY time and language just more sharp and hip to my ears!

This is what a jazz band sounds like. I know it's been said, but wow. Impressive.
man adam's comping is killer
So refreshing to hear a drummer SWING.
Ride n' Hats...everything else is just for decor.
Could Coltrane have imagined that his music would have such a strong influence on jazz musicians almost 50 years after his death? Where to now, Saint John???
I play guitar just like that... In my dreams. Adam is a bad ass! Impeccable playing.
Great drumming! Wow! Nice to hear Shepp as well!
Thank you Rita!
P
Hearing this was a profound and beautiful experience. Thanks for sharing!!
3:55 Adam stops syncopating his rhythm and plays straight half notes so as to contrast with the syncopated rhythm Bob is playing. Brilliant adapting.
What a session! I was mesmerized for the whole ride. I am going to replay this now
Rhythm section is cooking!!!
Adam Rogers is the man!
You mean the man who can't swing?
Jeff Putterman, you know it's quite funny that Michael Brecker, John Patitucci and Chris Potter all thought he could... Imagine that...
Really? You asked them? I think you should before you chew further on your foot. Which isn't tapping.
Jeff Putterman as a matter of fact I did ask them.
By the way -- the drummer in this video is tapping his foot quite a bit (rim shot...)
No way. I know what one of them would answer, so you are full of shit.
So does Bob Sheppard, who in fact is a more experienced musician than even Rogers is. And Hass' interaction with both of them is just incredible. Hamilton Price is rock solid. The whole quartet is just brilliant.
one of the great sweep/economy pickers
"Economy" in what sense?
economy picking and sweep picking are synonymous. Search their definitions on youtube
SurveyofFilmMusic Arrogant dweeb.
It's amazing how a dimwit like yourself Jeff, can misinterpret the tone my post. Well, actually...it's not amazing...
I didn't misinterpret your post you arrogant fucker. Search "intelligent life" on google, and notice that you aren't listed.
This is how music is supposed to be - live, communicative and straight from the heart.

Adam give us another amazing and inventive solo as usual.
Brilliant playing. Adam - please bring this band to England man.
Adam Rogers is such a great player, you could study the ideas in this solo for a very long time
what an impressive group
Just heard Adam on Joe Locke's Subtle Disguise and was blown away!! Really like his versatility. Great clarinet solo too. Thanks for posting this!
nice ride. like floating on a cloud.
Wonderful music. But what an exquisitely superb rhythm section. Magic!!!
great drummer
I don't think you could POSSibly swing harder than this rhythm section

Monstrous!
beautiful development 3:09 into the Eb-
Wow! Never heard of these guys before, but I am thoroughly impressed. Especially by the drummer, very tasteful!

Steve Hass
thank you! I'm going to be more active on my youtube. Sorry I haven't been around.
I am not sure which is more impressive...Adam's single note lines or the chord substitutions/additions/re-harmonization of this two chord tune.
love the comping. tasty
He’s playing quartals it’s not too difficult
Love both. His note choices are interesting but comping really smokes.
This was a great show! Thanks for posting.

Nice feel! What cymbal are you using, Steve?
7:24 THE LICK
Judge Reingold on guitar
super hot
Good recording. You can almost not hear the people talking. LA jazz clubs are the absolute worst.
sounds a lot like pat martino at times here
but much better haha
saxofoninkas panasus i V.LABUTI.....
two KENNY G fans didn't like this video.
18 seven years later :P

Very good but musically he does say in the first 2 minutes what he's still saying at the end of the solo.
Watch out. Adam has rabid supporters, who remind me of jock supporters. They will attack you for telling the truth.

Chris potter
very good comment but can you even play a 20th as good as he does?

Bruh. I give up
