I am French, in 1978 in Paris I discovered by chance at the flea market Porte de Clignancourt his first album ''The Jeff Lorber Fusion (1977) when I listened to the song ''Deva Samba'' I said to myself : I came across a nugget that I'm not letting go! It's now more than 40 years that I still appreciate his evolution, and that I recognize his style at the first touch. It doesn't make me any younger but still the same feeling as when I was 16🥲. Merci Jeff💝
Dude, very true, but I've found local French fusion and jazz has always been of the highest quality too. I was listening to Jeff Lorber's The Samba in Brittany at a place I was staying and all these amazing French musos turned up.
I was up late one night and can across this treasure, stayed up late and listened to the entire video!! Being a Lorber fan for 40 plus years, this video made my day!!
Got up this morning at 5 just so I could listen to the entire set yet one more time. A special thanks to those involved in making a presentation well worthy of the content.
I ran FOH for Jeff Lorber concerts (and a bunch of other great concerts including Michael Urbaniak and Urszula Dudziak) at the Univ of Maine Hauck Auditorium in the 70s. Great musicians, easy to mix, so well balanced. Every concert was a hit.
Good stuff, great venue! Played a gig as bassist with Pat Coil’s old band Recoil at the Agora in Dallas many years ago opening for Jeff Lorber Fusion. They were killer and Kenny G was his sax man. Left his sax in our guitar player’s car trunk when we had gone out for food after the gig. Small world.
I saw Jimmy Haslip play when he toured the UK with the late great Allan Holdsworth, sometime around 2009. He is truly a beast of the bass! Chad Wackerman was on drums!! 😊
Drummer is one cool cucumber! What a great relaxing sound with such an up beat tempo! My brain loves this shit and I still cant explain why...hell, why should I? Im just gonna enjoy the mood!
Man this truly lifted me out of a rainy Scottish afternoon into a distant world of really good musician's in really small clubs in the USA. I miss those places with the best cats in the world.
this drummer so soft and his fills are so fluid. easily connects all parts together, dynamics are great. Love it. Bro you're insane if you're reading this.
@@wasabi1drful you can tell he's a good player, but he sounds like he doesn't know the songs, and he's not really creating any peaks or valleys. Not to mention, he lost the time in that first drum solo.. Tempo went through the roof. He doesn't really fit in with Jeff's drummers in the past. Needs more experience. Have you seen Jeff with other drummers?
Man drummer has some serious groove for sure! Bass play and keys were superb, what a killer band, all this from just 3 dudes. Touring bands now days have huge bands, backing tracks and still do not create such a big sound like this. Excellent stuff fellas! Felt the whole set.
Jeff, I am a guitar player, love fusion, and I always liked your style, you really have the right feel and are probably the funkiest key player on the planet. This bass and drummer are reallly locked up tight and you guys are dynamite! Keep creating, you are always amazing.
Jeff Lorber certainly is a great composer and keyboardist. There at the baked potatoe, Lee Ritenour began his great job as a guitar player many years ago. A good place.
Awesome sauce! Jeff and Jimmy are legends of our time... and kudos to Dylan Elise... perfect fit! I just wish the camera angle didn't block Mr. Haslip the whole time. Great show never the less. I love these intimate jazz club settings and don't get to frequent them very often unfortunately.
Jeff & Jimmy combining forces, this is too cool! Thank you both for all the great music/recordings you made through the years! It had a huge influence on me, still does!
Well, it looks like I have another drummer to keep my eyes on......simply amazing....this was the 1st time I ever heard of him......what a fine talent. A dynamite trio for sure.....I have great respect for these players....
I like this drummer, solid and relaxed. I used to see Lorber play in small dives in Boston when he was attending Berklee school of music over 40 years ago. He was great then and even better today and one of the masters on the Fender Rhodes piano. Can't forget Haslip former bass player for one of my all-time favorite bands the Yellowjackets.
I saw Jeff Lorber in concert at the Angora ball room, in Atlanta. 1981. Danny Wilson, Bass. Dennis Bradford, Drums and some Gorelick dude on Soprano Sax. Awesome concert!
I have 3 of Jeff's early albums... Water sign, lift off...and "Step by Step". I kinda forgot about him. This is awesome, i play keyboards and he is onebof the greatest jazz musicians ever. This is awesome. THANKS
The KING OF THE ULTIMATE of FUNK/SOUL and all around GREATEST PIANO PLAYER in the Jazz Circuit. Watching Jeff Lorber since 1980. ALL the best from Jeff in Palmdale, California. Last time I saw him was at Spaghatinis Jazz Bar N Grill in Seal Beach 2019 or 2018. OUTSTANDING.
at 3:57 for a bout a minute, Jeff is really enjoying the bass solo.. at 6:57 he is enjoying the drum fill. Jeff looks like he is having so much fun, it is a pleasure to watch him perform as much as it is to listen. Fantastic keyboard solo at 28:48! The drumming is so tight! And after his solo, more of those smiles!!!
Nice point outs. Its gotta be joy to be in his place when he takes it all in. Then its back to the responsibilities of making sure everything that happens on stage sounds superb like at 28:48
Man all three players musicianship is off the damn charts. Jimmy Haslip I'm more familiar with as he's played with Robben Ford and Jing Chi. Jeff Lorber I definitely need to dig further into but I do have some of his music. The drummer I thought was stellar in playing with two long time experienced players and for him and Jimmy to mesh together as well as they did was special. I've listened to this three times now and will definitely listen more. What a great ride they produced together. Damn!😮
Drummer is Dylan Elise (pronounced Eh-lee-zay) from New Zealand. I believe he's part-iwi Ma'ori (ee VEE - MAH -oh-dee). Lots of RUclips videos of him playing on the street, bare chested, with girls fawning all over him, and he's slaying that little compact acoustic kit. Kia mau ki te riu Dylan!
Jeff has several compositions in The Real Book 1 dating from the 70's. Been around the fusion block, he has. I miss the Potato, one of my favorite things about LA.
I spent many a night at the Baked Potato. Heard some of the best Fusion-Jazz I have ever heard. I also saw the Jeff Lorber Fusion at a free concert at a Hollywood amphitheater.
Gerald Albright once described Jeff as a chameleon because he can fit into so many styles. Jeff has always had an eye and ear for talent: In addition to Gerald who was once in his band, so was Kenny G., and my high school classmate David Koz has done work with him.
I haven't heard Jeff Lorber in years, but he's still got it going on. And I fell in love with Jimmy Haslip from his into to "Feel Like Flying" by Gino Vannelli. I'm new to Dylan Elise, but he's holding his own with Jeff's fast tempo. What a treat!
Loved the lead in to Tune 88. Lovely re-realization, hauntingly Grusin-esque. My late son - a drummer - got exposed to the Jeff Lorber Fusion in our home when he was a little tyke. Even then he could find the “beats between the beats” the band tucked so neatly and tightly into both the tunes theMselves as well as the comping. What a joy that was for me - music educator - to see my son light up with life force from the music. Thank you for the gift of sound you’ve brought to us all.
I was wondering what Jimmy Haslip was doing since seeing new bassist with Yellow Jackets. I am probably living under a rock, but I am glad I crawled out and found this video. 😁
Been lovin' Jeff since day one, still a master. Would love to see a triple header gig with Jeff, Brian Auger and Eumir Deodato, that would be funky heaven!
What a treat! Lot's a musical goodies being offered by these three top musicians. Jeff's playing that blows your mind, Jimmy's bass clinic amongst other things...
Every minute of this is incredible! Just you think it can’t get any better Jeff hits you with another groove. Been listening to this master musician since the late 70s
I am French, in 1978 in Paris I discovered by chance at the flea market Porte de Clignancourt his first album ''The Jeff Lorber Fusion (1977) when I listened to the song ''Deva Samba'' I said to myself : I came across a nugget that I'm not letting go! @@yggdrasil9039 We'll probably never be fortunate enough to have Jeff play a show at the fantastic Le Théâtre Olympia here in Arcachon, France.
His first album is his best in my humble opinion.
Drummer is the epitome of good taste and restraint. Perfect for this gig and room.
Looks like Bop sized drum kit
I undersatnd that he's touring with Blood, Sweat and Tears..
Not the bass drum. Big bottom end a must for this material.@@robertreedy414
He feels great. He and Haslip are locked!

Jeff’s level of funkyness doesn’t get enough props.
The world needs more sensible groove!
One of my all-time favorite groups!!! The PHENOMENAL Jimmy Haslip on bass!!!
Sounds Great! Drummer did good, especially for his first time playing with Jeff.

Jesus! What a rythm section!!
I was lucky to Allan twice. It didn’t sound like a guitar. It was from another planet. Oh yeah. Jimmy Johnson on the bass.
Drummer is one cool cucumber! What a great relaxing sound with such an up beat tempo! My brain loves this shit and I still cant explain why...hell, why should I? Im just gonna enjoy the mood!
Jeff has been one of my true keyboard heroes since the 70s. Thanks master !
Hey!!! Kent State vs Akron U! I've been with this man since 1979. I'm so glad others appreciate him like I do!!
Man this truly lifted me out of a rainy Scottish afternoon into a distant world of really good musician's in really small clubs in the USA. I miss those places with the best cats in the world.
FOREVER A JEFF LORBER FAN, Thanks for posting this, 🙏
I listen to Jeff Lorber channel on Pandora and am just amazed at how many great songs Jeff has had over the years. Been a fan since the 70's
this drummer so soft and his fills are so fluid. easily connects all parts together, dynamics are great. Love it. Bro you're insane if you're reading this.
I agree. A lot of modern drummers have incredible chops but so many of them overwhelm the feel of the music. This feels just right.
True and he not trying to be LilJon! 👌🏿
Drummer is killing that Tower of Power David Garibaldi groove!
thats just how its mic'ed

Wow, I wish I were sitting there in that groove. Fuse Jim, Jeff and Dylan together. Fusion at its best.
I got some old Vinyl stuff of his! Sounds same--always good!
Jeff Lorber is a great pianist...& Also a wonderful drummer..Great Performance....👏👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

how does JL get an sleep; with this type of beat going thru his head for years? '-)
Same here!
Basses is a smooth monster always plays just what Jeff needs drummer is dope just trio making all this colors sounds grooves its amazing
When the bassist rifting during that first cut I thought he was channeling Jaco Pastorious.
that's jimmy haslip, he is a legend in his own right.
I discovered JL only a couple of years ago; wish me luck!
Get all of it since the 70's.
Always loved Jeff Lorber...wow...so nice to re-connect with him through this recording!! Love it!!
Crisp….smooth…..OUTRAGEOUS ! Bangin’ those DW’s…..
Bass and drums absolutely rock solid during Jeff's solo on He Had A hat.
Awesome concert. Jeff still killing it after half a century.
Put this on and simply couldn't turn it off, always loved Jeff's music and what a killer rhythm section
On of the greatest Producer ever. I still love Private Passion.
Jeff you are still a beast only getting better

Groove is EVERYTHING!!!❤Yesssss! Grateful to have reunited w/JLF!!!
I was into jeff way back...recently saw this exact band a few years back
Great to hear Jeff again!
I remember seeing him at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano CA in the late 70's early 80's Great shows. he had horns then

Saw Jeff back in the mid 80s in San Diego. A true master..went on to play a couple of his tunes in a jazz band later..fun stuff
My favorite live set ever!...the quality of the composing, the bass solos, the drum feel!...just perfect!...
Jeff Lorber's Band is smooth and Kicking!!!!
Love The Baked Potato! Such a great place.

As a musician I agree, someone must have received a memory upgrade!

Jeff Lorber has been one of my favorite keyboardist for many years
