Great, Great, Great BAND. I never saw them, but I did see Weather Report, one night at the Royal Oak Music theater, right outside DETROIT. A two hour delay, because of storms. I would've waited two weeks.
We heard this band play this set four times over two nights in Boston before they went on this tour. The second night Joe noticed that my wife and I were there every show and threw in one different tune for us!! These guys were very nice people on top of being such wonderful players.
Superb Show! All the musicians are great. Richard Bona is the most iconic bass player since Jaco Pastorius, and he makes me remember the late bassist as no other guy...
One of the GREATEST bands of the last century, along with: Frank Zappa (bands AND orchestral works); The Jimi Hendrix Experience; Miles Davis' various ensembles. And, btw ...R.I.P. Wayne Shorter!
A guitar teacher explained conservation of movement and energy to me, a concept I understood but never quite mastered unlike the bass player, Richard Bona. His fingers appear to barely move but he's playing at light speed. The guitar player, Gary Poulson, too but the bass player... wow!

I was at this very concert, nice! Joe always had monster players in his band and this was no exception , with Richard Bona and Paco Sery. Remember seeing his Weather Update band a few years earlier and he intruduced the bass player (Gerald Veasley) as the Marco van Basten of the Bass :) , was in 1988 when we just won the EK Football

Oh man, das hat jetzt gut getan. Die Band hatte ich vor Jahren in Aschaffenburg live gesehen und jetzt kommen alle Erinnerungen wieder hoch. Danke fürs Upload! 👍👍
An extraordinary "lineup" : Joe Z sure was good at choosing the best musicians available at the moment. Richard Bona is at level with our dear late Jaco Pastorius ♥ Gary Poulson is new for me as i write this but he's really got it : i'll have to search for some other Gigs he participated in to discover another wonderful guitar player ♥ Manolo Badrena & Paco Sery on percussionns ... a dream i would have never thought could be : Joe Zawinul made it real ♥ Thank you @North Sea Jazz Festival for this lovely piece of music ♥
On this tour they stopped at kuumbwa jazz Center in Santa Cruz and I sat in the front row. Paco Sery on drums was super impressive and so was his kalimba playing.
There seems to be a mistake in the set list and song names. Eyala is called "Do You Want Some Tea, Grandpa ?" (that's what its called on the "My People" album) My People track is called "Three Postcards" (world tour album) Between Band Intro and Carnavilto at 48:58 is the track "Bimoya" what a great show!!
Paco is truly one of a kind of drummer. Anyone else feel he only has one pair of sticks on stage? He dropped a stick a couple of times and each time had to reach for that stick, there seemed like there was no stick bag full of sticks.
Джо, к сожалению не могу написать правильно фамилию, оператор искажает, был генератор идей в группе прогноз погоды, может я ошибаюсь, но сейчас это прослушивается с новым коллективом, все классно и виртуозно.
Such a joy to hear them listen. This band is so tight, it’s scary. I sense that’s really down to Paco, who’s such a monster he can’t stay seated. Anyway, this tour in ‘97 they were in Paris without Manolo, but with an African filling in. My suggestion would be to compare that one with this, just to see what a master Joe Zawinul was in creating an ever evolving sound. My regret is never having seen him play with Wayne…
Joe Zawinul - keyboards & synthesizers, vocals
Gary Poulson - guitar
Richard Bona - bass guitar, vocals
Manolo Badrena - percussion
Paco Sery - drums
I thought that was a young Richard Bona.
Gracias por la informacion de la banda !!

Abia acum l-am descoperit! Un amestec de jazz cu rock ceea ce mie imi place enorm. Unul din putinele concerte pe care le-am ascultat cap coada.
Joe is the guy who never smiles and seems the nicest in the world! We feel the intelligence and finesse in his gaze and his attitudes.
Holy crap! These guys are in orbit keeping this pace in perfect timing and all the right notes to boot. I feel inadequite as a musician!
c'est la quasi perfection....quel bonheur.
Toto je přehlídka skvělých muzikantů a nádherných rytmů.
Absolutely superb musicianship.
I especially love the interaction going on between the players, something which is lacking in today's bands.
I watch this once a week!
