He is definitely one of the best of all time! I have a few bootlegs from this band and the playing is stupendous all around!

Adam's my favorite on so many levels, just so incredible... this video is fantastic, thank you so much Janek!

Wow - hadn't heard this boot before! I have a couple of boots from roughly the same time frame, same line-up. They play "Arc of the Pendulum", a Larry Goldings tune ("Stand Off??). etc. I got so into Adam's playing that I had to cool-out a bit! I switched to the reverse-grip on the pick back in the early 2000's largely due to Adam and I could never go back because it makes the notes sound so meaty with a stronger fundamental.
Janek - I have your "Live at the 55 Bar" and really love the Mana story and tune! I've got a Mana record and I like to freak out some of the Mexican guys I work with by spontaneously singing their stuff.
    Thanks for the great video!

Yes!!! What a band, and Adam sounds like a million bucks, as always! 🔥

Absolutely incredible. Adam bridged the gap from Martino to Metheny, and then did more modal changes to his playing. Just a great player!

That was bananas! First time that I have ever heard this dude. Will definitely check him out in more depth. As always, thank you for the insight, you are the man! Ok, back to the goddamn woodshed!

Adam is severely underated IMO. Everything he plays on sounds great, but some of his recordings with Brecker are truly mind blowing.

Hello from Kansas City, Missouri Janek. This is absolutely an outstanding Solo not only for Jazz Guitar but for any Instrument or Genre. With Jazz, there is a great amount of honor given to the Great Legends of the past and present. With that in mind, some of this Guitar Language comes from Pat Methenys solo from the Studio Album. Key word here is some. But where this Guitar Language really comes from is George Benson and Pat Martino. For anyone that's interested, please check out The Cooker by George Benson and On The Stairs by Pat Martino. Also as far as Aggressive in your face Jazz Guitar Solos go, check out Out By Twelve by Bill Connors and Devil Take The Hindmost by Allen Holdsworth. Thanks.

Damn! Absolutely amazing. Thanks for the share and the analysis. I gotta say I much prefer Rogers to Mike Stern. Just personal preference. Wish Adam had played with Brecker more. Also, I have a mind-blowing Rosenwinkel bootleg that would rival this solo, but it’s not mine to share. 😢
Bootlegs sometimes have some of the best stuff!

Funnily enough my first first thought seeing the title and thumbnail was Renaissance Man but different performance!

Thanks for posting this inspiring solo Janek. Holy cow. Curious -do you hear a through line from Pat Martino to Adam? That relentless 16th-note playing, mixed with triad pairs, repeating licks and morphing them, the evolving rhythmic displacement you mention, etc. makes me think there's a connection.

Absolutely there is. Those double-stop slurred stabs etc. Adam has talked about being way into Martino when he was coming up.

Hi Janek, thanks for sharing this.
I can't say of it is the greatest of all time but it's epic !
When it comes to transcribing, do you advice to write everything down ? Or only the trickiest part ? Thank you.

    • @janekgwizdala
      @janekgwizdala  5 месяцев назад +2

I write everything down because there’s no way I’ll remember it 10 years from now now, and I always want the option to reference transcriptions later.

Waaaay too fast 😂 ❤ Time is of the Essence is one of my favourite records and I love Renaissance Man. But speaking of fast, do you know Russell Malone? Of course you do. On his album Black Butterfly there is my favorite execution of "Jingles", really really fast and dynamic, but the right kind of fast, alike here with Adam Rogers solo. Maybe this album by Russell will inspire another video?

Not even close. Plenty of better clickbait titleists than me unfortunately.
If it was, it’d have 30k views already…
