Been to Cripple Creek before gambling came into town. It was more like Victor which I absolutely love for taking pics. Now, it's just like you said. Empty with casinos. Not real appealing. Love the shelf road. I don't believe I've ever traveled that road. Will have to next time I'm out there. Always came in from the north or west. I have pics of Victor years ago where the cattle where coming into town from the open range.
Awesome to see Matt in the mountains finally... so long to the flat farmlands of Kansas. As for Jen, I'm even more jealous that she was at Rock Creek and in the Sierra Nevada, my old home away from Home. Thank you for these awesome videos, I've been having my coffee while watching these each morning.
Best scenery yet in this series. Similar to some parts of Aus in colour but the trees and topography are really different. Still think the highlands of Scotland win for beauty though.
Beautiful trail today. Sure beats looking at corn 🌽 😂 I’m glad you had a nice hotel to rest in. Thank you so much for sharing Jen’s video. Jen the views were amazing!! ❤ You both take care and stay safe. God bless you both!
Oh, man!!....it looks like we just missed being able to see you/help you out....we have been following your journeys....we found you at the start of your Mississippi adventure and were so captured by that , we went back into the archives and watched almost everything...We live in Victor, Co, ( 4 miles from Cripple Creek ) but also lived in Canon City while our kids were growing up, so whenever you talk about or are in these areas, it's like you are part of the family :) we were on a trip and just got back yesterday, so I think we have missed our chance, but if you need anything while within the area please let us know....I'm pretty sure you are out of the area by now, but it was fun watching this one especially, since this is our own stomping grounds....sure wish Taters could have been here for this part...love all of your videos.....
Very nice one! Some nice scenery at last , big change after all those corn , soybean and alfa alfa fields . And a "home sweet home " from Taters ! Keep it on.
The former Cripple Creek, Victor, and Gillette gold mines up there are all massive EPA-designated Superfund Sites, so probably for the best that you didn't try to camp or drink/filter water in that area.
Kansas is cool in the mid 60s this morning but tomorrow and Sunday that heat index will be 110 degrees for the big air show in Wichita. I won't be going.
Oh, that is funny. I ended up on that shelf road with my wife and my two small children early 2000s . A locale was leaving in his truck I asked him can we make it he said oh yea !We did not know what a shelf road was we got too deep to turn around we just pushed on. We had to stop for the children to potty these mountain goats run right up right up next to us we were on edge literally and I kept singing down on cripple Creek song my wife finally said shut up I still think about that experience .
Loving the mountains!!! The hubby and I try to get out to Colorado once a year for camping and hiking. I was in Glenwood Springs last month visiting a friend. If you haven't been I highly recommend Iron Mountain Hot Springs in GS....super relaxing!
Hearing you hike uphill wears me out just listening to you, Matt. That seems like it's gotta be rough after walking all the way across Kansas, and more. Hopefully the scenery helps make some of that easier on you. I would have a hard time leaving that sweet hotel room you got for the night 😂. Those views you had were amazing, Jen! I hope we keep getting updates on how things are going for you, and a laugh now and then !
Damn it , Matt! You reactivated my Jones for Colorado 45 years after having lived in The Springs. (While we're at it...Damn it Jen! Making me miss the Sierra....)
While it’s unfortunate you have to be separated during the scenic hikes, so glad you were able to work as a team to get thru heat, water challenges, and Kansas!
pretty place, you have one thing to console you, dont have to worry about fighting with corn, what is winters like in that area there was a actual house there, wow, wonder if there are fossils in them hills,
NO Fires in the bathroom see what happens when Taters isn't there to keep you in line🤣. Taters what a spectacular camp and a perfect pitch on your tent.😎☮
Corn 🌽 withdrawal indeed... Cooler temps will help but you still need to hydrate.Mining has discharge, underground plumes into all the watertables that lead to well, springs tivers... sometimes tailings pile and possibly covered over/ " overgrown" from earlier days mining can contaminate soil you lay down on.One of the route of poisoning is absorbing thru the pores lead is a big old time problem. That was everywhere in the olden times. The newer rare Earth metals usually affect all in the same manner.Brst of luck at this new altitude!
Sorry was out of town for a bit.. I got your message.. I downloaded the site but didn't get your number. Resend it if possible... Yeah I'm in San Francisco so you need anything when you get here just let me know... keep it up my friend... Doing a great job
your vlogs capture the real life of backpacking so well, but I've always wondered, "why is he never singing?" - glad to know that as you hike you are out there singing random crap that gets stuck in your head like the rest of us (I assume you're off-key & on repeat like a broken record like most of us, too)
There was a couple year period where I was rock climbing almost every weekend, including several technical Sierra peaks. But that was about 10 years ago now … it wasn’t a sustainable hobby alongside the through hiking, canoeing, scuba diving, and the wilderness class.
Yea, that’s been one of those things we’ve talked about getting back to but somehow time seems to always be at a premium. There were a few experiences like Grand Teton that were just spectacular and part of me would like to get on the Whitney East Face route at some point
I know it says taters update in title but it would be great to have a different transition slide if there is going to be taters content. And then do final slide /patreon thanks at the end. Loving the scenery change for both of yiu
Hearing Taters say she hasn't laughed all day actually hurt a little.
Such a change from Kansas! Night and Day (and hills and rills and valleys and actual scenery! Wow.) Hike on! Tortoise
A nice Taters addendum, indeed!
The weather is creeping up fast. I'm in Truckee right now and it's 49 degrees
Amazing how the landscape changed in just a few days. Also great to see Jen also found (even more) impressive mountains 😄
Tater clips for the win!
Matt The scenery is amazing! Appreciate your filming, editing skills, and commentary. Been following since Delaware.
It’s is just crazy as hell that you’re in those mountains and started out at the Atlantic Ocean. Totally insane!
15:25 so the "no fires in the bathroom" people were totally justified?
Thanks, wow taters. ✌🏻👊🏼

A drunkards dream if I ever did see one.

I miss Tators.
Glad to see Jen getting outside. Sad to hear she hadn't laughed all day.

Love this scenery and the trail
Day 134 watch. Great to see you in my backyard.
What a difference a couple of thousand miles makes Good Luck & Thanks.

BACK IN THE MOUNTAINS! Thank you Flying Spaghetti Monster! MATT AND CORN JUST AIN’T RIGHT 😮

I went to school a year in Alamosa in 1983. Been back a couple times for a couple days. Would love to spend a couple months in Colorado.
I preferred Cripple Creek when it was still just an old mining town, before the casinos, etc.
While it’s unfortunate you have to be separated during the scenic hikes, so glad you were able to work as a team to get thru heat, water challenges, and Kansas!
Have driven that road ... love it!
Hey Y'all, nice to see you both. Taters, my humble opinion is you need to laugh, or giggle, at least a bit every day. Just a thought.
pretty place, you have one thing to console you, dont have to worry about fighting with corn, what is winters like in that area there was a actual house there, wow, wonder if there are fossils in them hills,
love those Colorado summers, but winter is brutal brrrrrr!!!!
I was in Alamosa in 1983-4. 42 below actual temp one morning!
NO Fires in the bathroom see what happens when Taters isn't there to keep you in line🤣. Taters what a spectacular camp and a perfect pitch on your tent.😎☮
Nice video be well
Wow....Jen is just flat out hardcore.

That road is way better than Kaiser Pass to VVR!
Yeah shelf road has some interesting things along the way….
Yes! Get some Taters! 🎉
I know KS was real desert, but do you also get thirstier the higher you go?

This terrain definitely seems more "Matt-like" in my 3 yrs following. Oddly seems like you went from flat to altitude pretty fast.
Love your videos and adventures. Are you saying, "a complete crab-shoot"? It's "crapshoot". Is it Matt-ism or merely an accent thing?
❤
Seeing you push up the mountain and having seen the California Zephyr dog it up the mountain, I don't think the train was going much faster
The scenery just got a whole lot better. Does Taters go technical rock climbing? Has she done any technical peaks with a rope?
There was a couple year period where I was rock climbing almost every weekend, including several technical Sierra peaks. But that was about 10 years ago now … it wasn’t a sustainable hobby alongside the through hiking, canoeing, scuba diving, and the wilderness class.

Deffo not in Kansas anymore…

He really wanted to camp ok
