that was a timely useful video. you helped me help a couple of young teens. listening to your explanation helped back up what I tried to teach them. Failure is a stepping stone and criticism is useful as a tool for self improvement. Thanks, Ramona may your karma be reflected and your love rewarded.
i absolutely love each of your videos!!! For some reason no matter what the topic is each video of yours gives me hope and calms me down in this turbulent time. thank you!
Absolutely awesome upload. People would be very well advised to take the suggestions here. When I was young I did care to spend all my time with my peers. The simple reason was that my peers gave me next to nothing in the way of wisdom, insight, learning, life lessons. It was always much older/mature people who gave me very very valuable lessons. To this day I treasure those lessons.
Excellent advice on chess for the young and seeking knowledge from older people about what to be careful of in life. This may sound crazy but getting fired from my first job taught me how to not react to people who are giving me a hard time in the work place. Don't react immediately to any provocation - it almost always is in anger and ends up being a strategic mistake. Take in the info, put it at the back of your mind, process it later and decide what type of response it merits.
The idea of Success made a lot of sense in my 20s, a little more in my 30s, some less in my 40s, a lot less in my 50s. Now, I think your best advice here is to listen to those older than you. The Old Man Speaks: Your definition of success determine a lot. I would say first, you have to understand what that word means to you. Then you can go on to achieving it. Having said that, a healthy relationship with success means being able to put all the pieces back in the box....at the end of the game.
Nice! I'd suggest getting Jim Rohn audio- amazing stuff. The point about the elderly is sooo true. And the funny thing is they usually LOVE to talk! Win Win. While I was at Nordstrom we had regular elderly come in just to walk around the mall. All my co-workers avoided them because they would just talk and never buy anything. I quickly realized their potential value of knowledge and started asking them specific questions about their past and I gotta say It was more valuable than a gold mine! =O)
That's a pretty good video. I'm encouraged. I've always thought that I was crazy because I tend to bite off more than I chew. Some contributing factors to success are persistence and originality. Many successful people are also religious, military affiliated, and have a college education. As someone who wants to be a military chaplain and maybe a counselor, college professor or full-time pastor, later, those are some good success traits!
love you videos. would like to see you extend this topic - maybe talk about some of the things you've learnt from older people/ self help books etc. you could tell us about some of the mistakes you made. keep up the good work
great advice. one of the things i do is listen to all points of view. older people are great sources of info. but also people outside a certain field or people new to the field can have fantastic ideas because they arent stuck on the same paradigms as seasoned professionals.
I love you ! Your kindness, your courage, your intellectual line of thought, its easy for me to relate, to understand and it is not NOT one of those: stand on your ears and do the mantra: Brzeeeee! for 150 000 years. than. you will be a wealthy man.
I love the comment about the educational system. Personally I think you can find better education off of youtube than most colleges, like this video. Keep speaking the TRUTH!!
"Wrong" ...you are a wonderful speaker. Thanks for doing these videos, you are making us "think", and that's always a good thing. You kinda remind me of my favorite author, "James Allen." Keep going, and we'll keep watching. Thank you again for caring about all of us, ...including yourself. Happy New Year 2011!
I don't know you but this is one of the best videos I have ever seen. This is much better than 'The Secret' bullshit. I love your failure advice. Like someone just wrote, you just changed my life. Thank you.
First of : Nice shirt. Second : I agree with most of what you say, Particularly I dont think we use the elderly well enough in society. Some of the best and most inspiring people I have worked with are people in their 60s. They are focused and have an innate knowledge of 'how things work'.
Sean Underground defines success based on how popular he is and how much money he is generating. He makes points about how it's possible for everyone to be well off. He obviously doesn't understand the fundamental error in making that assumption in our current system. It's not only not possible, but mathematically impossible for everyone to have a high standard of living in this system. He doesn't even seem to care how well off his "clients" are; just that they don't tell him "I can't afford it"
thanks again for all the great vids. my father was just dignosed with esophageal cancer and would LOVE to hear your opinion in b-17 laetril. specifically by way of apricot seeds. I am very confused about the truth on this topic. thanks again
I think I learned more in college from working at the alumni foundation and talking to professionals and old people than reading textbooks and taking multiple choice tests. lately Ive been learning more on youtube and from nature than following conventional wisdom and group think taught by institutions bound by collectivism and pure rationality instead of intuition and creative thinking that fosters critical thinking skills. In other words think for yourself and live a life of no regrets!
One thing that helped me was to realize that "failure" is not a perpetual state of being, at all. The only way to fail "permanently" is to never get up again after you've fallen. The more you can shorten the time between falling and successfully getting back up, the more failures you can learn from/move beyond. You could have dozens in the same amount of time as one sloooow painful failure you refuse to deal with and get mired in. Ask me how I know... ;)
Thomas Edison taught us how important failure is. It took him approximately 10,000 experiments to invent the perfect set-up for the electric light bulb. Feedback then adjust. When A pilot flies to Europe his course is a straight line. But his journey involves 'course correction' You constantly criss-cross the line you are supposed to follow, never following it exactly. If someone says they have never failed they've probably never tried much in life. Have U ever read 'Think & Grow Rich'?
I came to the same conclusions in the past 3 years after leading my plans to all the outcomes that didn't work, you talk like I think. I feel relieved there's others. Thx
Great video (sorry I see nothing to criticize)! We, in fact, learn from our errors not from that which we already know. Everyone must be encouraged to acknowledge and accept their errors in order for them to learn from the errors.
@nepenthean superior xray skills ? isn't there a standardized means of taking an x-ray i.e. put the guy in front of the xray machine, dial in the power or set some configuration and hit a button.
@lorax2013 Thank you, I read most of the books you recommended on your page and it has changed me for the better. I especially loved "How I found freedom in an unfree world". All your videos have been so helpful to me. Much appreciated!!!
I agree 100% about not to be affreide of failure. How yang you started to play chess? I started at 5, my grand pa had 2000 rating at that time,so I had a very good teacher.
A friend high in the corporate culture likes to say this--"failure is not an option". Fortunately for us we didn't marry. Her marriage is a failure; her children have not been able to live up to her standards; she has become stubborn in her thinking. In her eyes, my whole life is a failure because I didn't get my masters. "Blinded by self-importance... the visionaries of society haven't the vision of a blind musician nor the perception of a churchmouse_" ~~carefulcarpenter
cool vid. you've probably given this info before but could you give us a list of very useful books to pick up? (I've read you recommend How I found freedom in an unfree world). Do you have more? :)
its a shame people aren't truthful and are always beating around the bush, I find people should be more straight to the point and be honest. Its how I've improved and the way I like it. For the record, I'm not afraid of being corrected. Secondly, I stand corrected that I believe we should all share and help each other improve instead of being self.
Bobby Fischer, former Chess Champion, when asked why he always played pawn to king four replied "Best by test." The greats of old played the same. Having watch many of your blogs you seem to prescribe to the same philosophy. It's not a bad one.
@sunamori6765 By taking such a naturalistic approach you're assuming that the basic flow of nature is all that matters. From that view, we came from nature and we feel positive emotions when we accomplish goals set for ourselves, spend time with our families, improve our surrounding environments/communities, and do those things we associated with the word "success". We're simply acting on nature's gifts (of course, I feel it goes beyond this and we carry responsibility too).
okay old people: should i stay at a high-paying job working very long hours and being bombarded by stress-inducing negative comments if succeeding at the job will bring little satisfaction because i have no interest in the job other than that it's high-paying, or should i quit and do another job which pays about 1/10 as much but guarantees two days off a week and is enjoyable enough that i would do it for free anyway since it doesn't feel like 'work' at all?
@sunamori6765 I also find it it funny how you use a pendulum as an example of something that goes against nature. You can find a natural ebb and flow in nearly every aspect of nature. On a simpler level, a pendulum just obeys the natural laws of the universe in its' simple harmonic motion via its interaction with gravity.
Great advice specifically about auto biographies and seeking advice from yourself when it comes from positive emotions.
I totally agree with you! The elderly is vastly important! And all the other advice you talked about! Great video!
thank you so much for the fantastic advice! i have watched all of your videos and I agree,...brilliant.
Love it!! You are a great speaker, very sincere and easy to listen to. Thank you!
amen brother

This is a very good video.
Good point on the emotional part. That gets many.

keep trying brother. don't give up. persistance pays.

My tip: success leaves clues! If u want to succeed in any aeria of your Life simlply copy the strategies of someone who is where u want to Be
I watch Sean too!
Bobby Fischer, former Chess Champion, when asked why he always played pawn to king four replied "Best by test." The greats of old played the same. Having watch many of your blogs you seem to prescribe to the same philosophy. It's not a bad one.
what type of success are you talking about? Societal success or personal success or both?
Where did you go bro? we need more videos!
Totally agree. Most people would agree too, but don't pursue this practice.
@1234jemm that happens sometimes with youtube vids just reload the page and turn to sec 38
@sunamori6765
Very nicely put and these statements ARE profound.
I hope to live beyond Failure or success. Thank you for this idea.
Great advice!
PS: What are your favorite books?
You captured my thoughts :)
Buy his book guys. You can find it on LuLu. Good matrerial!
I love it how this video "How to succeed at stuff" and the video doesn't play....
hi can you make a video for self-confidence
I wish you would do more economic videos
How do you measure your success or failure?
Unless this is too personal can you share some of your success and failer stories?
Wow! And you call yourself the worst speaker in the world?! You've shot a very dynamic and motivating video. Thank you.
make more videoes please ! ;D
@kartabella i'll bet at one time he was bad but he got better!
@Kyocus But...you are! :)

could u recommend a book
man, make more videos on how to win at life =D
You're not the worst speaker ever, Lorax :)
can Loren give a few of these biographies worth reading.
@sunamori6765

knowing supersede believing...
@carefulcarpenter Why do you keep a "friend" around who thinks your life is a perpetual failure? O.O
@lorax2013 where ya at?
Hope you are ok.. we miss your videos.. by the way nice try with that shirt!
