- Hi guys!
I have had a request to show my process of colouring a background using my Distress Inks. So here it is! I am still learning how to use distress inks myself, but I am glad I can at least share with you how I currently use them.
The shades of distress inks I use in this video are:
-Cracked Pistachio
-Stormy Sky
-Black Soot
The friend on instagram who gave me the idea of using the drawing gum is @enchanted.colours - her work is great! Check her out!
I hope you find this video interesting. See you again soon!
Happy colouring…

Hi, from NYC! Looks like I'm a year late watching this Distress Ink video---but I found it at a perfect time! Only two days ago I ordered about 12 of these inks to try them out for the first time---and judging by your results, I think I'll be very happy with them!! Oh--and thanks for answering my 'Comments' recently--I thoroughly understand that you might not see them for ages, since I often comment on your much older videos!! Hope you are well. Lynn in NYC
I very much enjoy hearing your thought process and think you have a uniquely effective way of sharing the steps you take to achieve such remarkable results. I can only encourage you to keep sharing :)
Thank you very much 🤗💗 I am so glad you like my style of presenting my videos...thank you for taking the time to watch 🤗💗
Thank you for taking your time (again) and do my request
You are so welcome! Thank you so much! 🤗💗
Your tutorial is so clear and thorough as always. Thank you for taking the time to share this technique. I am looking forward to trying it.😊
Thank you so much 🤗💗 I hope you enjoy trying it out! Thank you for taking the time to watch my videos 🤩💗
Hi Shelly, I hope you’re doing well. I do have distress inks because I watch Zucchini Kitty’s channel all the time, let’s just say that is not as easy as she makes it look! 🤷🏻♀️ I would have loved to see how you applied the masking gum so neatly! I am afraid of it, because I know it can really grab to the paper. But how long is too long???
Hi Yazmin! Yes, Karen makes distress ink look so easy.....not to mention, stunning!! To be honest, I don't know how long is too long, I haven't tested that and don't think I want to ruin a page trying to test the limits 😂 💗
Best distressed ink video ever! Thank you SO much!!
You are so welcome! Another one coming up shortly, hopefully you will enjoy it! Thanks for watching 🤗💗
You give some of the most thorough and helpful tutorials! I think you must be a teacher in your “day job” lol This turned out beautifully. I love the colors you chose and I’m excited to see the finished results. Thanks a bunch and Take care🌺
Thank you so much! 😊💗 So glad you like how I do my videos. 😂 What a big compliment! But unfortunately, I am not a teacher in my day job, I think I would find that way too challenging for me to handle 😂💗
You can spray water on the distress inks and it does help immensely when they begin to dry out.
Beautiful background. I'm going to be trying this. I bought a bottle of masking fluid, which I think is the same as drawing gum.
Oh that's great!! I am so glad you will try this out! 🤗💗
I make cards and use Distress Oxides like watercolor too. Just swipe it on a non porous surface and spritz with water. Then you can paint 😊
Yes! That’s a great idea….love waterbased mediums, so versatile and so many ways we can use them 🤗💗
Thanks for showing how to do this!! Really enjoyed watching 😊
My pleasure, thanks for watching 🤗💗
hi! I love your videos, thank you! can you make a video alb distress inks but without that gum?
Thank you Shelly for sharing this video was very informative 👏 I enjoyed this emensley 🥰
Thank you so much Jackie 🤗💗
Thank you! Did you splatter white and gold acrylic on the background over the ink? I did not hear you say but I may have missed it.
Soo beautiful Shelly!
Thank you Siska 🤗💗

This video is very helpful. Thank you
It's my pleasure....I am glad it was helpful 🤗💗
Hi Shel! Your work is beautiful and I really enjoyed watching you work in distress inks. I've been wanting to get a few colors to try but don't have any idea which ones I would use the most. Do you have any suggestions for some frequently used colors of the distress inks by Ranger to start my collection? Thanks so much for your thoughts! Bridget
This is beautiful! How do I wash the brushes? Just plain soap and water?
Thank you! So sorry for the late response....yes I simply use water and soap to clean the brushes and then leave them to dry completely....will take a while, before you attempt to use them again ☺️💗
Thank you, I enjoyed watching your process. When you go back to color the page, does your hand smudge the inks? Do you have to put a towel under your hand?
So glad you liked my process video, and thanks for taking the time to watch 🤗💗 I haven't found that the inks smudge, but you could always put a scrap bit of paper under your hand. 💗
Muito show. Muito obrigada.
Hey where you buy these golden aplicator?
I used metallic watercolour paints by Arteza - got it on Amazon UK. Also, a good gold would be winsor and newton gold ink - also available on Amazon. ☺️💗
Hi shelley I've just discovered you channel beautiful channel and beautiful lady. Do you Do a tutioral of the gold and white dots on the background please xx
Hi Shelly very pretty 😊
Thank you Cindy! 🤗💗
You said your stormy sky is slowly drying out. How long did it last?
I think that is from the 2nd kit of mini distress inks I bought, which was back in 2020. It has lasted a while! 🤗💗
@@shelscolouringjourney did you used it often or was it dryed out becaurse of the age?
Where did you buy those brushes? ☺️
I got them on Amazon UK - I just searched 'blending brushes for crafts' and you should get lots of options 🤗💗
@@shelscolouringjourney thank you❤️
Thank you for showing how you do this, I really appreciate it!
My pleasure! 🤗💗 Thank you for watching 🤩

Beautiful 😍😍😍
Thank you 🤗💗
great tutorial :-)
Thank you! 🤩💗
beautiful!
Thank you! 🤗💗
Very lovely!
Thank you! 😊💗
Thank you for this tutorial. Do you have several brushes, or do you wash your brush between colors? And how do you wash it? Does the ink completely come out of the brush with soap? Thanks so much.
My pleasure!
I got a pack that had several sizes....but I just have the one set. I do tend to wash my brushes after every use. I soak them in warm water with soap, and allow them to sit in it and change the water a few times. Then I rinse each brush and just rub them over my palms to make sure all the colour comes off - I do find it takes all the colour off. hope this helps 🤗💗
@@shelscolouringjourney It helps. Thanks! I used mine for gel crayons the other day for the first time and Dawn power wash worked really well.
Just did an art supply haul and bought some ink but I didn’t know you needed the masking liquid🫤
You definitely don't need to have it to use your inks. I tend to use it, but you can do the inking without the masking fluid and just be a bit more careful if you don't want it to go into the lineart. Hope this helps 🤗💗
