Of course it is great, who the hell would disagree? it's way better than sekiro (except the graphics and the controls are better in sekiro obviously).

In the Japan version the zombies sound like they really deranged, the Us version they sound like a baby crying
Looks so basic now but in 1998 this game was stunning and ahead of it's time in many ways with great music an atmosphere. I must have played this game close to100hrs. Great memories.
Love this game, one of the best games ever. Finally I hear it in Japanese.
The voice actor for Rikkimaru is Shô Kosugi who starred in many 80's Ninja movies and TV-shows like eg. Enter the Ninja.

An incredible game still to this day. Despite the graphics and controls being antiquated there's still a very compelling and fantastic video game here to play.

Playing for the first time, of course played Rikimaru first. When I finally beat Free The Princess and saw the ending then I'm like.
"WHAT?! That's my ending!?"
With the somber ending theme from Far Away to the coldness of winter as the snow falls. Damn did that ending hurt.
Just like a ninja born in the shadows, and thus will die like a shadow. No public funeral, no memorial. All that will be remembered will be kept secret between Gohda and Ayame.

The translation will be:

But it sounds something like:
"It seems that you die. I kill you now"
So yeah, it has no sense at all hahaha.
In the other version, the american, his speech is more cohese. Something like "deseas que te maten? Muere te!"

There are 2 missions in english version that doesn't show here. The chickpoint and the corrupt minister.
This version didn't have the same missions as PAL/NTSC it was only later version that they were added, also some of the bosses are different

I remembrer playing a version in which echigoyia the evil.merchant doesnts run away in his boss fight. He stays and shoots you down instead.

I read in a game magazine ages ago that the "Crossing the Checkpoint" mission had a female guard at the gate that you had to defeat. In the western version she looked like she was in her 20s, but in the Japanese version she was said to look like she was about 12. Obviously, this didn't sit well with the ppl at the ESRB so they had to make her look older, but I just thought the cultural difference was interesting and I wanted to confirm that article was true. I have yet to find a shred of evidence to verify it. I think it was an issue of Gamepro magazine.
it could have been true but Cross the Checkpoint was a level added to the US release. It wasn't released in Japan until Shinobi Gaisen came out and that was the same graphics wise as the US

Depends what you like, really. I prefer the VA in the Japanese version but the Western version is much more violent.

There are two Japan versions, one is similar to PAL and NTSC and other is this one done exclusively for JP, also the bosses are different in this one

This version looks "meh" I think there are 2 versions one where you fight the boss with two wild-wolves and on the original version he's with one big bear instead of wolves. also I did notice there is no soundtrack when Onikage appears and boss fight which is badass, tbh it looks like an easy version compared with the original one.

They released two versions in Japan. This one which is exclusive and one which was released in western countries.

@@djaj1212 You should find it easily by using its proper full name "Rittai Ninja Katsugeki Tenchu". Ignore "Rittai Ninja Katsugeki Tenchu: Shinobi Gaisen" (this one you have) and "Rittai Ninja Katsugeki Tenchu: Shinobi Hyakusen" (compilation of missions).
