The 911 Turbo S is an awesome machine. The only issue is the sound as you need to install an after-market sport exhaust. But this German beast has been refined for looks, technology, performance, and sound, making it the complete package. If I had the money, this GT 63 would be on order. Thanks, Joe. I love your enthusiasm during this drive.
I think this looks a little better than the 911 but the resale is what I'd be concerned with. The Porsche won't drop 30% when it crosses the curb but the AMG definitely will!
I feel like 99% of people will choose 911 Turbo blindfolded. But even a 911 Turbo owner will instantly want an AMG GT 63 if they see one on the road. That's the magic of the 63. Also with all the cost cutting across car manufacturers, Mercedes has cut the least and you can feel it if you've compared across the German companies. VAG just doesn't come close in terms of interior qualities. And I hated to say this because the big a$$ screen in the middle is actually the worst possible design Mercedes could've done. They later came out with the hyperscreen which is nuts but that is way too costly. Hyperscreen on the GT 63 would be instant seller.
Honestly, if I had that amount of money laying around, my brain would say go for the Porsche. But I was instantly attracted to the looks of the AMG GT, it's such a beauty. Plus I'm more into comfort and luxury over breaking track records.
It is very depressing that AMG chose to install the fake non-utility vents. It is shocking that AMG would stoop so low for such a genuine and classy company!
@@IanTheCarGuy I for worked for Benz for 18 years on the mechanical side I can tell you that they may look useless, but there is intent behind them and its most likely for aerodynamic purposes
The front fender vents on the Mercedes-Benz GT 63 are not just for show-they enhance cooling, aerodynamics, and high-performance capabilities, while also complementing the vehicle’s sleek, sporty design.
Wish I could rationalize a $200k Benzie. My high spec E53 cost half and provides the same fun and wow factor with the Magno paint. The new GT63SE with plug in is really tempting though. Carbon ceramic is no go as the maintenance cost is outrageous.
Love the 911, however it’s not practical for weekends away or as a daily driver so it becomes a garage princess. This is practical as a daily drive and is an absolute joy to be in. Given the choice, I chose this with no regrets at all.
@63CommonSense start with comfort. The AMG seats are just a smidgen wider, but the balusters hug a skinnier person tight. So if you are a little bigger then they are way more comfortable. If you are not it’s a bit like having premium economy over economy seating. Just nicer. Second sound. On the 911 you can upgrade to the Burmeister sound system that is entry level on the AMG. I upgraded to the premium Burmeister and it is amazingly good. Third, theatre. It’s joyous. A flat 6 does the job but sounds like a chainsaw. This sounds like a junkyard dog called Rocky who knows you, but may rip your arm off anyway. Then spits at you. Then there’s practicality. The trunk space is twice the 911 before you fold the seats down. You can go away on a long weekend with your boy/girlfriend and luggage and get it all in. A long weekend/week at the shore or in NYC with my spouses luggage is a non starter in the 911. There’s a lot of Porsche product out there. And it’s great. But a lot of it is weekend /day trip use only simply because of luggage limitations. You can shop for a day or two but not for a large summer cook out or a family. And no I’m not doing the golf club test because golfists are boring. So they’d buy the 911 regardless. And then drive an SUV as their daily drive. You can get shotguns in in a range bag without breaking them down in the AMG. So there’s that too.
I used to ride like this on the twisties in my 20 mustang gt that was lowered with Ford performance track suspension and loud ass exhaust. Man i miss those days so much. Not quite like an AMG but it was still fun as shit.
Doesn't matter how much money you have, but buying one of these things is one of the absolute worst things you can do with your money. These depreciate like a soiled mattress whereas a 911 will retain its value. A 911 is also a much better driving experience
And boring to drive/own. The 911 is just so commonplace and boring, unless you go GTS. If you are really worried about residuals you shouldn’t buy either.
you buy these cars for pure pleasure/letting off some steam. If you want a car as an investment, buy a classic Mercedes 300 SL or a modern classic Porsche 911 S/T
you know a few months ago i was wondering if you were ever gonna review super cars and super luxury vehicles. These last few weeks you've reviewed some epic rides. Thanks for sharing man! hahaha to the door panels..
Also, on this note of the silver arrow heritage their original Mercedes-Benz were in silver because of the paint on the vehicle had to be removed for racing qualification back in 1934
Less power than the 911 Turbo S, no DCT or manual option, slower than the 911 Turbo S that has a 6 cylinder in 0-60 and top speed. The lip in the front should have been all black, and the black wheels need to go in my opinion. The cockpit looks small, so I wonder about that. At 6'"3, I know I fit in the modern 911's. I like the MBZ, I think the 911 Turbo S in this case is still king.
If the LC 500 does not satisfy, this might be my alternate contender to purchase! A downside of the AMG GT is the all-glass instrument panel instead of more physical switches!
Already know this boutta be a fire review! 🔥 One thing I always wondered is who is the target audience for the standard 911 Turbo? At that price point the step-up to the 911 Turbo S seems to be the better option.
Joe,not sure if you love baseball or not but,my family has some history. My great uncle is Don Newcombe who pitched with Jackie Robinson for the Brooklyn Dodgers and is the first Cy Young award winner too😊 But that Benz is way too rich for my blood right now😅😅. I like the design but the rear seats are as useful as politicians solving problems 😂😂
Now this is a great question. DB12 is in a different league - and price. Vantage is harder to live with, but feels more luxurious and old school. It struggles to put the horses down with rear wheel drive, too much engine for 2 wheels despite the weight. A tad more expensive. Less drama but more badge value. Same engine. Totally different character. Basically choosing between an English gentleman and a German axe murderer. A poser or a bouncer. I went with the thug.
Thanks Joe! Question though (sorry for the rhyme)...is it worth the extra $40-60k over the GT55?? I can't decide. I hate getting the "base" version but since it has the same engine...really hard to justify!
Had the same question. Is it worth it for 120 horses I’ll never really need. For the same spec the 63 came out $22k more. Went with the 63. No regrets.
@cruisersupport4502 it’s also less than half the car. There’s a reason they don’t make it any more. It was nice, however performance was below average and that supercharger overrun sounds like a wet fart.
Q: Is the 2025 Mercedes AMG GT 63 a BETTER sports car than a Porsche 911 Turbo? A: this Gen 2 NO, the previous Gen 1 YES. as a former resident of Stuttgart back in the 80's i DO like the evolved styling of this Gen 2 along with those sweet AMG "Neptune" wheels, though admittedly i'm waiting to see if they release a lightened RWD only version off which they use to homologate the next race car. despite that beautiful all aluminum chassis unfortunately there's no getting around that the AMG has turned into a bit of a "porker" along with G90 M5 (which has just gone completely off the deep end in terms of added weight).
I will say that the new AMG GT has lost some of its specialness when it comes to the interior since it now looks like any other Mercedes Benz interior. I miss the 8 buttons that flank both sides of the center console in the old one. I suppose the best term I would use to describe the new AMG GT is playing it safe and it shows because there's hardly anything special about the interior.
The AMG looks better exterior and interior and sounds much better than the 911, it just won't quite match the 911 on the performance metrics. I wish I had to choose between the two, tough one.

There are 4 vents on the 63 unused. They are used on the pro.
