Mezzanine was probably one of the best albums of the 90’s
In deed, I believe the same. It defined an entire style of music.
I'd go further and say that it was definitely one of the best . . .
Yeah, 'probably one of the' is not much of an endorsement! Lol
it was no blue lines
Probably?
That bass line in "Safe From Harm" - NEVER surpassed!
From Billy Cobham "Stratus"...Lee Sklar on BASS!!!
Straight out of Stratus. But imitation is admiration of the brilliance of the originator.
@@elainekerslake6865Precisely - as Oscar Wilde said "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". They didn't make any bones about it.
Rest in peace Angelo Bruschini ... We are grateful to you for these strange and powerful sounds...
Neber heard of her . Why are your messaging me on my youtube?
@@Dr_Jim57 I didn't send you a message, Troll! What is your interest in the video above? stupid troll! Leave this area immediately!
The bass player is amazing. As for Massive Attack, their body of work is nonpareil!
I was introduced to Massive Attack in the early 90’s. The music carried me through some of the most turbulent and most memorable times of my life. The end of a 10 year relationship and the beginning of a 25 year marriage. Their music touches me. For nearly 30 years they have been my favorite sound. Nothing like them.
Those bass lines ⚟
The bass at the end of Mezzanine and Inertia Creeps is sinister. Deborah Miller kills it on Safe From Harm. They're all brilliant.
Safe from harm was perfection.
It's been said before and I'll say it again; this was from a time when MTv was still actually relevant and worth watching. Also, great performance, all completely live in a time when talented bands were still relevant too! Amazing times all gone now, luckily we still have these great recordings to cherish..
What so good about these songs is, that they are even harder to do live and accoustic.
And they do manage to do this without losing the beat which makes it even better.
I wish these were shot more like the Unplugged gigs, I'd actually like to see what is happening.
I'll always be coming back to these performances and to one of the best albums OAT. Gold. 👑
A superb half hour of music crowned with the Liz Fraser Teardrop, which remains utterly gorgeous.
The best band ever!!! And still in 2019. This band is my other half! Love ya! 💖
i love this live version of karmacoma.
Mezzanine WAS one of the greatest ever. And stroke of genius was EF to vocalize smoothing heaven out of grooves from the earth
This music still stands up today.
In case anyone's wondering about the names of the musicians in the video we have:
Guitar: Angelo Bruschini
Bass: Winston Blisset
Keyboards: Michael Timothy
Drums: Andy Gangadeen
These were the sames guys they took on tour with them on the Mezzanine tour of 1998-1999.
What about the vocalists, who were they all?
@@makusmati The singer for 'Teardrop' was Liz Fraser .She has a lovely unique voice, her band was Cocteaux twins
And who were the guys playing the African and middle eastern drums in the beginning.. the first song?
The black woman vocalist on Safe From Harm, who is she? Shara Nelson did it originally but I dont know who this woman is in this vid?
@@christopherdiedrich40 Those are Indian drum, the guy in the middle is playing tablas
Well that was bloody brilliant!
I always come back to this version of karmakoma. It lasts more than lifetime
This whole video is a gem, thank u🖤🖤
are you fucking kidding me? these guys are the fucking greatest...just about everything comes from here..
It was great 90salbum ❤
Just hypnotic !!!
какие же вы крутые, ребята! в 2003 в Москве был с вами в Олимпийском!!!
Those Tabla's though, thats smoove that is man!
the best band I've seen live, in an intimate setting...a club in Brighton. they were incredible is all I can say. played a really original set that was in the early 90's and nothing has compared since. superb!
Massive Attack has and will always be one of my favorite bands.
This is gold
love it🌈 perfect , so good with tabla , wonderful voice, they are the best ❤
This was the MTV I liked. Pure music, no BSs.
Not just endless episodes of the shit called 'Ridiculousness'
Yes... I was actually impressed from like 1984-1995. I recall Martha Quinn, who always seemed a bit out of place, Adam Curry, Nina something or another. Those were the good days on MTV. NIN, Faith No More, Psychedelic Furs, Public Enemy, Duran Duran, Guns n Roses... I remember being just blown away the first couple times I saw their videos.
Fraser. Wow, what a vocal range.
Love you all guys. Great Massive attack
fantastic upload. all amazing songs but Inertia Creeps hits the spot every time...too good
Simply mind-blogging! The music created by Massive Attack in the 90s would qualify to be one of the greatest creative effort of all time! I've been addicted to their music for more than 15 years and still completely hooked!!
Mohandas Satyam Have you heard Underworld? They were the other wholy original electronic artist of the nineties imo.
Me as well.....
Massive and Portishead...I could survive if I was shipwrecked. PERFECTION!
Ever dipped into LAMB? just as good
@@dj_bullets7106 nothing like massive attack tbh
I would love to see them live but sadly their tour didn't come to Atlanta 😭 At least there's the magic of the internet to provide me with a variety of live MA performances through the years.
winter of 99, i was 15 years old i was watching mtv late at night and they played this show. I stll have it recorded on vhs cassette. Young teen who was shaping his musical taste.
dude I'm a bit older but yeah love shit like that, best one I have on tape somewhere is John Lennon dropping in unannounced to an astounded radio DJ with his 'new' album Rock and Roll :)
PLEASE DONT EAT ME
I was 14!
Being in that square in Bristol for their homecoming gig on their hundredth window tour was an epic experience!
This sound has not aged at all, not one day. Timeless and sharp. This sound could still top the charts, or at least still capture fans in the mood.
My gf and i were talking about this. Mezzanine is almost 20 years old and it holds up to anything released today.
please don't flame me for saying this, but I listened to Mezzanine recently and it did sound a little bit "late 90's". don't get me wrong, its timeless music in that its brilliant then, now and in the future.... forever. but it doesn't sound like music of today. its dated. that in itself is not a criticism!! hell, music was better 20 years ago! I hope that makes sense.
well yes, Coldacre, mezzanine; but is that not one over those more "overplayed albums " that don't really showcase the best of the best. see, I am no expert in Massive Attack, save one thing. i may have not heard a lot but whichever album(s) it was, not to mention the sick AF stuff above, was well just sick AF, and the little i did hear was very memorable and epic on a whole different level, just like ^ these ^ songs. there is some really dope stuff going on here, but mezzanine... meh? now that being elucidated haha, i agree that 90s music was in fact really butt kicking music hands down. AND the late 90s might have been creatively waning a bit but these guys rounded of the decade in freakin awesome fashion thats for sure too
great songs yes but if you think the sound quality is great you got some crappy speakers
@@caleron0 Have you ever thought the sound "quality" might have been on purpose?
a historical moment for music
Shivers down my spine at 3am in caliofornia when i hear that teardrop womans voice Liz Frasier
This is eargasmic foreplay. MASSIVE THANKS for sharing this.
Phenomenal.
Safe From Harm’s live version’s snare slaps as fuck, as well as guitar parts of this performance. damn, MA.
Timeless… 👌
Got snowed in today...and my soul was searching for something...reached back into my brain and pulled out "Massive Attack/Mezzanie" And here I am. Outstanding video. Thank you so much for posting this. Really made my day.
Safe from arm is just my 90 s song. Still , unfinished sympathy will remain my absolute favourite.❤️
As a youth growing up in Bristol, i went to many Wild Bunch house parties. Two decks, passing the mic and da spliffs. Willy Wee, Delge, Grant, Mushroom et all mashing it up til the beast come try shut things down, or the sun come up. I left Bristol to travel, not long after their first 12" (as Massive Attack) had dropped. Daydreaming. It was quite well received, and i guess u could say they were just beginning to gain some real traction in the music biz. But what would I have known, i was only 18....
So I travelled for 6 months or so, before ending up in Australia, where i was hoping to stay a while. One day I walked into the big record store in the middle of Melbourne, and my bloody jaw hit the floor...
Hanging from the ceiling were these massive (pardon the pun) 'posters' for Blue Lines. Well i say posters, but they were a bit more than posters. More like floor to ceiling murals. I was like 😲wtf, that escalated quickly!!! Needless to say, a purchase was in order. To this day it's still one of my favorite albums of all time. True story 😆
Actually if I remember correctly, Daydreaming was released by 'Massive', because the Iraq war was just kicking off, and the band felt that Massive Attack was not the right name to use at that time. Can anyone verify this? I could be wrong, as my memory is somewhat under the influence 😉
upsidedahead I heard massive was ok, but attack was actually forbidden.
@@bluenote84149 wow really??! They were dictated to. That sucks! By the record label i presume. Thanks
I was 15-16 big hardcore hip hop head when Blue Lines came in my ear holes. Still amazing. Added an another dimension.
Blue lines still kicks it out of the park!
Massive Attack é INCRÍVEL!
I've loved Massive since Blue Lines and travelled to Hong Kong to see them live and was sorely disappointed. :(
Thank goodness I caught The Prodigy live, the night before. Cherished memories!
Although I actually met and talked with Daddy G while he was completely unrecognised in the crowd, checking out the Prodigy's set. Such a gorgeous gentleman.
Pure class🙂!...
Absolutely brilliant. Thanks for uploading!!
Eases the sad within me by embracing it. A dark warmth engulfs me
Stop feeling sorry for yourself!
My brother would say.
Just shut your eyes he says.
Just stop worrying he says.
Big Love to Massive Attack and Co.
Quem está curtindo MASSIVE ATTACK em 2019 dá um salve ai, brasileiro também curte MASSIVE ATTACK.
Somos poucos
Safe From Harm- the best! I remember when it came out. Love hearing it again.
Great live set of 5 songs that Massive Attack performed in the MTV Studios during the 1990's. Amazing seeing the rare sight of Liz Fraser singing Teardrop and Mushroom DJ-ing behind the decks.
your art and vision inspire my art thank you!
obrigado, from portugal
It's a shame that Mushroom split.
Supposedly over them drifting away from their hip hop roots.
Too bad he didn't seem to realize that Massive Attack was in such a position that they could do anything they wanted, not just be confined to one genre.
They've created their own genre!

@Alison Lapoint
In 2020? Ahaha ok, it's never late to discover a magic Band. Awesome
WE miss you on the Radio...
Inlove you inlove it inlove tour music since si long Time... Younmake me Ever and Ever Stronger
Very well put together. I seen them at Glasgow Barras on the Mezzanine tour. One of my faves. When unfinished came on it was magical.
Introducing Liz Fraser into the MA mix was pure genius. Dark & light. Dualism perfected.
***** Yes, and she did similar seminal work with Future Sound Of London on their ''Lifeforms'' release.
Completamente de acuerdo, luz y oscuridad !!
Liz Fraser needs no introduction! Goodness. Her vox alto delivery on the Cocteau Twins' masterpieces like Head over Heels and Treasure precede these appearances by decades. What voice!
Massive chills out ... !
Timeless!
2019!!!! Still Beautiful!!
That was great 🤩 just what I needed: half hour of fantastic music to dance to and wake me up on a shitty Wednesday morning.
Thanks for uploading!
STUNNING!!
2019 Relevant and awesome as ever. Great music.
ten years or last year the music is still great. loving it
vi amo siete fantastici. dal 1991 che ho conosciuto la vostra musica e ogni volta che l ascolto per me è sempre un viaggio.
Iv'e been a meth attic for over fifteen years and still battling. Musicians like these guys and Portishead, Eliiot Smith, Simon Joyner, Sigor Ros, Neva Dinova, Bright Eyes, just to list a few, are the olny things that help keep my tippy toes on the ground while the rest of me is drifting away. Music like this helps me embrace and accept the darkness that is just as much of a part of our daily lives as the light. If it werent for artists like this I would have chosen to leave this world a long time ago, I am so fortunate for there existence, there passion, there wisdom, and there message. I will always keep them close to my broken heart and feed them to my sickened brain on a regular basis.
wow, hadn't heard that kind of perspective about music before, interesting way of looking at it. keep up the good fight anyway man
Keep fighting thru your addiction bro. Youll find your way out for sure.
I’m really sorry to hear that and do believe no-one should be born into this world to suffer - but I’m also happy you found solace in music. I myself have been struggling with depression for over a year and the depths of despair are infinite. It’s clear mankind chose the wrong path in history and some of us are more susceptible than others. It’s not that we are weaker: we just stayed strong for far too long and at some point we were bound to break. So keep strong.
Keep fighting brother. We are cheering you on. remember one day at a time and people place and things. find some great support.
man I have got the same feelings........thanx this band I have survived darkest days of my life in this earth,,,,,,,,,and still do here in Bangkok!!!!!!!
I was lucky to see them in Geneva, maybe 3,000 people only in the room. Best concert ever.
Teardrop gives me chills
A real classic and I never tire of listening to it in all of its simplicity and beauty; I am 70 years old and have followed MA since their inception and never tire of listening to them and their guest artists.
inertia creeps is still hot after years
Mosok mbak?
