I was introduced to Massive Attack in the early 90’s. The music carried me through some of the most turbulent and most memorable times of my life. The end of a 10 year relationship and the beginning of a 25 year marriage. Their music touches me. For nearly 30 years they have been my favorite sound. Nothing like them.
It's been said before and I'll say it again; this was from a time when MTv was still actually relevant and worth watching. Also, great performance, all completely live in a time when talented bands were still relevant too! Amazing times all gone now, luckily we still have these great recordings to cherish..
Simply mind-blogging! The music created by Massive Attack in the 90s would qualify to be one of the greatest creative effort of all time! I've been addicted to their music for more than 15 years and still completely hooked!!
please don't flame me for saying this, but I listened to Mezzanine recently and it did sound a little bit "late 90's". don't get me wrong, its timeless music in that its brilliant then, now and in the future.... forever. but it doesn't sound like music of today. its dated. that in itself is not a criticism!! hell, music was better 20 years ago! I hope that makes sense.
well yes, Coldacre, mezzanine; but is that not one over those more "overplayed albums " that don't really showcase the best of the best. see, I am no expert in Massive Attack, save one thing. i may have not heard a lot but whichever album(s) it was, not to mention the sick AF stuff above, was well just sick AF, and the little i did hear was very memorable and epic on a whole different level, just like ^ these ^ songs. there is some really dope stuff going on here, but mezzanine... meh? now that being elucidated haha, i agree that 90s music was in fact really butt kicking music hands down. AND the late 90s might have been creatively waning a bit but these guys rounded of the decade in freakin awesome fashion thats for sure too
What so good about these songs is, that they are even harder to do live and accoustic. And they do manage to do this without losing the beat which makes it even better.
In case anyone's wondering about the names of the musicians in the video we have: Guitar: Angelo Bruschini Bass: Winston Blisset Keyboards: Michael Timothy Drums: Andy Gangadeen These were the sames guys they took on tour with them on the Mezzanine tour of 1998-1999.

I was busy with nursing school and raising a family and missed them but now I’m retired my family has been rearranged and here I am enjoying this wonderful music ❤❤ just goes to show music is timeless, my 19 year old granddaughter and I share the love of music and she actually loves all kinds of
Great live set of 5 songs that Massive Attack performed in the MTV Studios during the 1990's. Amazing seeing the rare sight of Liz Fraser singing Teardrop and Mushroom DJ-ing behind the decks.
It's a shame that Mushroom split. Supposedly over them drifting away from their hip hop roots. Too bad he didn't seem to realize that Massive Attack was in such a position that they could do anything they wanted, not just be confined to one genre. They've created their own genre!

the best band I've seen live, in an intimate setting...a club in Brighton. they were incredible is all I can say. played a really original set that was in the early 90's and nothing has compared since. superb!
Iv'e been a meth attic for over fifteen years and still battling. Musicians like these guys and Portishead, Eliiot Smith, Simon Joyner, Sigor Ros, Neva Dinova, Bright Eyes, just to list a few, are the olny things that help keep my tippy toes on the ground while the rest of me is drifting away. Music like this helps me embrace and accept the darkness that is just as much of a part of our daily lives as the light. If it werent for artists like this I would have chosen to leave this world a long time ago, I am so fortunate for there existence, there passion, there wisdom, and there message. I will always keep them close to my broken heart and feed them to my sickened brain on a regular basis.
I’m really sorry to hear that and do believe no-one should be born into this world to suffer - but I’m also happy you found solace in music. I myself have been struggling with depression for over a year and the depths of despair are infinite. It’s clear mankind chose the wrong path in history and some of us are more susceptible than others. It’s not that we are weaker: we just stayed strong for far too long and at some point we were bound to break. So keep strong.
man I have got the same feelings........thanx this band I have survived darkest days of my life in this earth,,,,,,,,,and still do here in Bangkok!!!!!!!
As a youth growing up in Bristol, i went to many Wild Bunch house parties. Two decks, passing the mic and da spliffs. Willy Wee, Delge, Grant, Mushroom et all mashing it up til the beast come try shut things down, or the sun come up. I left Bristol to travel, not long after their first 12" (as Massive Attack) had dropped. Daydreaming. It was quite well received, and i guess u could say they were just beginning to gain some real traction in the music biz. But what would I have known, i was only 18.... So I travelled for 6 months or so, before ending up in Australia, where i was hoping to stay a while. One day I walked into the big record store in the middle of Melbourne, and my bloody jaw hit the floor... Hanging from the ceiling were these massive (pardon the pun) 'posters' for Blue Lines. Well i say posters, but they were a bit more than posters. More like floor to ceiling murals. I was like 😲wtf, that escalated quickly!!! Needless to say, a purchase was in order. To this day it's still one of my favorite albums of all time. True story 😆
Actually if I remember correctly, Daydreaming was released by 'Massive', because the Iraq war was just kicking off, and the band felt that Massive Attack was not the right name to use at that time. Can anyone verify this? I could be wrong, as my memory is somewhat under the influence 😉
Yes... I was actually impressed from like 1984-1995. I recall Martha Quinn, who always seemed a bit out of place, Adam Curry, Nina something or another. Those were the good days on MTV. NIN, Faith No More, Psychedelic Furs, Public Enemy, Duran Duran, Guns n Roses... I remember being just blown away the first couple times I saw their videos.
Liz Fraser needs no introduction! Goodness. Her vox alto delivery on the Cocteau Twins' masterpieces like Head over Heels and Treasure precede these appearances by decades. What voice!
Got snowed in today...and my soul was searching for something...reached back into my brain and pulled out "Massive Attack/Mezzanie" And here I am. Outstanding video. Thank you so much for posting this. Really made my day.
I would love to see them live but sadly their tour didn't come to Atlanta 😭 At least there's the magic of the internet to provide me with a variety of live MA performances through the years.
I've loved Massive since Blue Lines and travelled to Hong Kong to see them live and was sorely disappointed. :( Thank goodness I caught The Prodigy live, the night before. Cherished memories! Although I actually met and talked with Daddy G while he was completely unrecognised in the crowd, checking out the Prodigy's set. Such a gorgeous gentleman.
Mil gracias!!!! Ustedes han sido vitales en mi vida, no solo han influido en mi trabajo creativo, han regenerado mi espíritu, mi mente y mi cuerpo. Abrazos desde Bogotá!

Anyone remember Safe From Harm from the Greg Stump ski film? I always put it on when I’m skiing great wafting turns in powder when I’m alone… and hope to hit bumps when the guitar twangs! Epic!!
Mezzanine was probably one of the best albums of the 90’s
In deed, I believe the same. It defined an entire style of music.
I'd go further and say that it was definitely one of the best . . .
Yeah, 'probably one of the' is not much of an endorsement! Lol
it was no blue lines
Probably?
That bass line in "Safe From Harm" - NEVER surpassed!
From Billy Cobham "Stratus"...Lee Sklar on BASS!!!
Straight out of Stratus. But imitation is admiration of the brilliance of the originator.
@@elainekerslake6865Precisely - as Oscar Wilde said "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". They didn't make any bones about it.
@@patanex Wait what. That is Lee? Mind blown... the guy truly appears everywhere. He is what Jeff was for drums and more.

The end of a 10 year relationship and the beginning of a 25 year marriage. Their music touches me. For nearly 30 years they have been my favorite sound. Nothing like them.
The bass at the end of Mezzanine and Inertia Creeps is sinister. Deborah Miller kills it on Safe From Harm. They're all brilliant.

This sound has not aged at all, not one day. Timeless and sharp. This sound could still top the charts, or at least still capture fans in the mood.

@@caleron0 Have you ever thought the sound "quality" might have been on purpose?
What so good about these songs is, that they are even harder to do live and accoustic.
