When I was a boy, my dad always shot a 20 gauge shotgun (Browning Auto 5), and when we got out in the field, and would run into his buddies or other hunters, they were almost always carrying 12 gauge shotguns. When I asked him why he didn’t shoot a 12 gauge, he said that hunting was a sport/pastime for Sportsmen, and he’d considered going to a.410 - both giving the same range as a 12 gauge, but less projectiles per shot. It was a personal preference and mindset I guess. Then, when I was about 14, some magpies were in my neighbors back pasture, and my friend ran to his bedroom and came out with an old bolt action.410. I followed him outside, and as we snuck up on the birds, when they flew, at about 60 yds away, he fired and smoked the magpie, to my surprise, and it was then that I remembered what my Dad had told me about - it opened my eyes. It would be interesting, to see how this gun does, with some optics off a rest with.45 ammo.

I have a Thompson Encore with the .45/.410 barrel. Mine has the screw in straight fluted choke for shooting shot. This Rossi may be lighter, but I'm sure it won't pattern down range like my Thompson. But, at a quarter of the cost, it may be worth a try. .410 can really be destructive at close range....

j recently bought a rossi brawler 410/ 45colt i like it .while waiting for my new 45colt brass to get here I'm shooting 45acp in it. i.went to harbor freight and bought a 225 peice box of nitrile metric o- rings. using sizes 8x2mm and 8.8x1.9 o rings put over bullets to back of case. when shutting action it will be a little tighter. shoots good and ejected live rounds and emptys great. but WARNING 45acp can go to 18,000 to 20,000 psi.standard 45colt 14.000psi maximum. i don't know any ammunition manufacturers who print chamber pressures. i don't recommend using factory 45acp .but as a reloader of 44years i will for now use data from Hornaday reload data center that gives bullet weights, speed, chamber pressures. my next try out load will be 200gr xtp, Longshot powder 7.0 gr, 918 fps 13,600 cup- copper units. Pressure.which is safe in any 45acp brass shooting in the 45colt brawler .be safe and use good judgment about what you shoot.and absolutely no 45colt +p it might kill you. papa wishing you well .

If you want a small .410 snake gun for walking around the farm or whatever, you can get a Bond Arms derringer rather cheap(not sure how much this thing costs) that holds 2 shots and is much smaller. @mkshffr4936 Год назад

Exactly. Hunting and pest control same as the dearly departed TC Contender. .45LC in a 9" barrel is adequate for any big game in the lower 48. Will also handle rats, snakes etc. at close range with .410 possibly even small game at close range. For longer range shotgun hunting they would need to offer one with a straight rifled choke tube.
Not a first choice but in a pinch .410 buckshot would discourage a two legged predator. That is a fair amount of utility for under $250.

You mention it will probably be used at 25 feet or less. I don't see this gun in that role of a defensive pistol. It's a single shot with a 9'' barrel. I see this more as a trail gun or maybe a treestand gun for snakes on the trail or small game when bow hunting (where legal) from a treestand. IMO the ability to shoot the 45 Colt cartridge is a bonus as it too is a capable round so long as it shoots well out of this pistol

BUT HEH, Rossi is owned by Taurus which is owned by Braztech which owns Heritage so i've gotten used to their simplistic gimmicks...like Single Action 22lrs that don't even have a decent shell extractor. WHY would anyone want to have to do cock and fire each time when there's SUPERIOR used DA/SA pistols like the Hi-Standard Double-nines still plentiful.
These are simplistic bs that costs the manufactor, MAYBE, 10 bux to manufactor. Just buy a backpack breakdown 410 or better yet 20/12 gauge for around 125 to 150 bux and be DONE with it. STOP putting out BS Braztech1

Why didn't they make it accept .454

My guess is extra cost and weight to contain the ungodly pressures. Anything that a 9" .45LC can't handle would probably be best handled with a repeater. The original BP load from a cavalry SAA could shoot the horse out from under an enemy soldier.

This thing can’t even handle slugs or +p. So I’m guessing they were interested in making it a cheaply as possible.

@@erroneous6947 It would be interesting to know the reason why they say no slugs but as a practical matter it doesn't bother me since SAMMI Colt loads are much more effective than 410 slugs.

right, l already bought 1, & that's why l bought it thinking it could handle high pressure ammo. The manual said WARNING DO NOT USE 454 CASULL or +P+ Ammo.

@@frefmcgwn I can't believe they would make something that crappy. I've seen their lever guns slugged and measured out of spec; too loose for common sized ammo so it doesn't surprise me.

Try to buy a .410 judge with a 6.5 inch barrel for $200. Hell do it for $240. I bought my brawler yesterday and it was on sale for $180. Don't knock it until you try it.
