You must feel a real sense of achievement getting this one running again. Looks like you spent a lot of time and patience on it.
Possibly the most impressive thing was getting the body off without damaging it. Great work!😀
She lives again. Another of Bill's resurrections, well done.
Great to see this one working again! Some first class engineers in that shed!
Morning Bill. Another awesome 👏🏻 fix making somebody really happy 👍🏻
That moment when Louise came 'out of the shed' was a great achievement for you after her original condition. Well done, Bill, another fantastic repair. I'm in the process of repairing a green R59 3MT and I'm having difficulty sourcing a cylinder block (broken just as bad as yours) and I've had to glue the pieces in situ. (But I liked your comment about retaining more of the original loco, so maybe it's for the best!). Thanks again, catch you later. Jim L
OMG bill you have pulled off the ultimate miracle with this one what a star you are its owner must have had a tear in his eye when he ran his locomotive for the first time in 20yrs his heart must have been pounding as he watched you separating body n chassis i hope your proud of your achievement with this one TBH my heart was in my mouth watching you operate on this one your a 5*****star model engineer keep up the good work n keep the videos coming
I reckon that's probably your most impressive triumph Bill a real test from beginning to end, must give you a real sense of achievement
That was a challenge but perseverance pays off and it runs a treat, nice livery too.
Nice to see this old loco running again looks good going around the track well done Bill
Another thing about the smoke generators, when they're working... You will find that your room, layout, and running rails will have acquired an unwelcome film of oily deposits from the smoke fumes.
Arguably your finest repair yet. That really was a challenge. I winced at every twist of the screwdriver as you released the body, waiting for the fateful 'kraaaak'! Ordinary loco servicing won't be enough now, will it? You'll be wanting to go 'extreme' for the adrenaline hit!
well done Bill... she lives for more years of fun running
Great video and a seriously good repair. Sorry to be a pedant but Princess Louise was 6204 . . . 6210 was Lady Patricia. I was a keen 'spotter on the WCML in the '50s and "copped" all the Princesses and Coronations. I cabbed a good few of them too at Camden, one of which was 46210. Happy days . . .
Lot's of problems, and a tremendous amount of work. But I imagine you must have felt really chuffed, quite a sense of achievement, when you finally got this one running. I'd be inclined to agree with your comments about the smoke generator - they're really, on balance, more trouble than they're worth. They add more resistance to the running, make noise, and (worst of all) overheat and damage things.
I very much enjoyed seeing you bring this basket case back to life, Bill. Thanks as always fopr your hard work. Cheers from Wisconsin!
Excellent Bill. Very nice job and it turned out a lot quieter than I thought it would.
Wow, impressive, imagine if every model made could be fixed and kept, what a world it would be
Enjoyed that! Thank you Bill and have a Merry Christmas and safe and happy holiday season.🇨🇦
Great repair. Loved to see it running again. Thanks for showing. Regards Paul.
Great to see a restoration like this. Since I stopped smoking and went over to an e.cigarette, I’m wondering if the liquid used in them would work in a smoke generator ? If it does it’ll certainly stink a lot less than the old smoke oil…
Hi Bill, brilliant video. I,v got a few Triang loco,s. And I,v disconnected the smoke generators. They don,t work that well and like you I don,t like the heat near the plastic body. I think you,v done the right thing. All the best. Carl.
Good to see it running after all these years and again some useful tips
Was touch-and-go for a bit in Part 1...but got to the end - respect. For me the smoke units and chuff-chuffs were just gimmicks in essentially what were toys. Im minded that dont need them, only got to keep stopping and refilling them anyway. Happy Christmas Bill
With regards to the grinding sound, i have a princess with a plastic gear that upon inspection was wonky. Misformed in production or heat from a hot motor i don't know. But the noise was resolved by purchasing a new gear (s2021) it too was noisy forward and silent in reverse. A lovely fix, i hope to get one of the full valve gear princesses myself soon. I can imagine the fun of that with synchrosmoke going!
Can't wait for part 3
Regards
Will
Lovely job Bill
Yes I agree about leaving the smoke generator

Very nice job there.
Quite a growler as you agree - going forwards.
I had an LMS 6201 Lizzie back in ~1971.
Loved the little touch working in the lubricating oil - I used to do precisely the same thing!
Was curious looking at the T-H collection - 60022 (tender driven?) as well.
Al.
That was a very good vlog thanks Bill. It made a change from your usual strip and rebuild, a few challenges built in to be sorted. It gives me confidence for tackling my Princess, which is a mediocre runner at present, though has a working smoke generator, or it had when I last ran it!
Excellent repair bill
I think we are all in admiration of your paichance and skill well-done great little video
Trojan work bill she turned out lovely most people would have binned it 👍
Congratulations on a very tricky repair. It's a wonderful achievement. I agree about disabling the smoke generator too. Apart from the heat danger, the smell of burning oil hanging in the air is not pleasant. 😊✔
I do wonder if Bill's new track plan will actually provide all that much more 'play value' than the existing layout.
When the eventual plan is to re-hash the attic and build up there, I'd be very tempted to stick with the current layout and save the money for the 'retirement build'. I just think the improvements will be, not enough.
Great restoration - very much attention to detail and patience to do it right
fantastic repair on that
Well done Bill . Somebody’s pride and joy restored . Superb stuff . Merry Christmas !
Hi Bill ,, Im with you on the not using the smoke generator too m8 ,, heat from the motor is bad enough let alone the extra heat and also extra drag on the engine as well. I have another old girl coming to me in the next couple of days and I have a few spare good running x03 x04 motors to use as spares or might even try to fix the motor thats in it that dosent go (according to seller).
Cheers from John in Australia
Outstanding work Bill, that thing was a wreck.
Really lovely job Bill. Thank you.
Well done Bill. I am going to try to get the smoke generator running on my old Britannia I am restoring. I remember being amazed when I first saw this running as an 8 year old kid! It's a pity you can't get the elements anymore. I do have one that tests ok but I'm still waiting on parts to be able to get this thing running. If you want to test the one you have, you should get a resistance reading of 30-33 Ohms. You can refurbish these, I am told, with Nichrome wire. To disable them, simply remove the element. The way these are designed, the metal housing shouldn't even really get very warm.
great video I agree with you about the smoke generator I remove the one on my 28xx class
Top man Bill. It's great to see another salvage. Love the videos. Happy Christmas.
Nice to see the loco fixed and pulling a train
Happy holidays to you and your family!! Cheers Onno.
Good couple of videos. I like the Princess class locomotives and it looks good with those three matching carriages.
Well done!
You are amazing to say the least!!!
Wonderful
Well done Bill. The smoke box should be stuffed with cotton wool and soaked with "smoke oil" the alloy box should not get warm. The smoke is produced by oil in contact with element. It does stink though. Not a bad idea to not use it.
Thanks again. Keep saving trains.
I like smoke units for the novelty and I'm just mesmerised when they work, I've had so many of those Syncro smoke units for a little while and been tinkering with ways to make it more reliable but they're so hit and miss a lot of the time. The other week I was running my pannier with one fitted and I don't know if the room temperature was right or the units got enough heat while going at a reasonable pace but it made lots of nice chuffs, but it stopped that now so it's pretty disappointing, hopefully it'll work again because I'm thinking of fitting it to a 5 pole motor chassis.
I think ways to make it a little more better is to give the fuse and anywhere that the current flows through a good old polish and clean along with changing the wire out if its knackered.
Hi Bill.
CONGRATULATIONS Bill, an excellent repair job! You clearly have patience in abundance. 👍
I have a couple of Triang wagons but the flanges on the wheels are causing issues with my Lima sections of track. They are fine when running over my Peco 100 sections and even over my Peco Medium Electrofrog points but the flanges appear to rub against the sleeper chairs on the Lima track. This has stopped me from purchasing any Triang locos on the well known auction site for fear of ending up with a loco that is not fit to run on my layout but, apart from ripping up brand new Lima sections and replacing them, what can you do. I'm afraid it is what it is but I'm open to any suggestions from fellow enthusiasts who may have encountered a similar problem.
Looking forward to seeing you begin your new track laying project in the New Year Bill. All the best,
Paul. 👍
excellent vid !!!!!
Curious: This model is not listed in the Hornby Collectors Guide. '6210' is Lady Patricia, but Princess Louise is 6204, and was never released in the Tri-ang moulding, Might be a rarity!
Back in the 1970s, Triang Hornby supplied a set of alternative names and numbers so additional locomotives could be created. if I recall, the LMS Princess had names for Princess Louise, Princess Victoria and Lady Patricia.
@@premikyam2726 - That makes a lot of sense. Thank you. I'll have to keep an eye out for them.
You're the man!
What a little jem
Nice job.
great job done,nice one.jpj
That X04 motor was quite quiet when running without the body fitted; have you ever tried adding suitable padding inside the bodyshell to act as sound deadening?
good vid on the channel of fixing trains thanks lee
Nice livery as well

Well done Bill , though I can hear it running from Fife 😁 hope you manage to tweek the worm gear 👍
It's quieter in reverse so am pretty sure it'll quieten down. But it can be a lot of trial and error to find the sweet spot.
its the drive gear not the worm i believe
hi bill i think i have a cylinder block from a triang princess class which i will gladly donate to help you out, came from an old parts box i have regards sam woodward
That cut at 8:16 … 🙂
You need a quartering tool for the wheels.
I totally agree about Epoxy!
Horrible stuff
may have been asked before, what make contact cleaner do you use
Many, many times. See FAQ in description.
Hi Bill, I have several spare cylinder blocks for these engines in my spares box. Send me a message if you want one of them.
fantastic video, you're a genius. Happy Christmas OOBill
