  • I was sent this Lima Deltic by a chap called Richard on behalf of his son Freddie. They acquired this model at Key Model World Live and wanted me to look it over.

Your forensic approach to regenerating such models should be celebrated. This is the essence of true modelling.

Really appreciate your investment in the micro camera that can show us what it is you were describing. Great fix on this diesel.

Good video. Simple and tough old skool Lima engineering that just works and keeps on working. Given a bit of care and basic maintenance these will last for decades.

I don't think I ever seen a commutator that oily and the teeth on the odd gear seemed longer than the other under magnification. Your perseverance is to be commended. Great repair and video, Jersey Bill.

Nice work again Bill interesting that one grey gear causes excessive noise, like the T shirt. 😊

I'm surprised she ran as well as she did with the state she was in. Another job well done.
I'm guessing the unusual gear was a replacement and not the original part but could be wrong.

Hi Bill. Nice job. Thats a good looking loco for its age. Most lima models are so old now that show a lot of wear and tear. But with a sharp eye you can still find a good one. I have three of these loco's , one in BR Blue, one in two tone green and the other in Porterbrook purple. Lovely models. I will have to get round to servicing all my Lima loco's and replacing the engines for small can engines. There much quieter and pull well. I like the new T-shirt. Maybe market them in different colours. Good luck to you.

I wouldnt advise using can motors, in fine fettle lima run great, esp the later lower geared motors as shown in the video, give it a service and replace the wires, I did my entire lima diesel fleet and the results are astonishing

@@vikingsmb Hi. I have a Lima class 31 in Fragonset black livery and I changed the motor for a can motor and the difference was amazing. Very quiet, smooth running and powerful. The original motors are ok but can be high maintenance. Can motors with dcc have great slow moving abilities too. I have a lot of them like most people so the fleet will still be running Lima ringfields for some time to come. But hopefully money permitting they will gradually be replaced. Some probably have the miliage of the starship Enterprise so they deserve to be retired. Thanks for your reply.

No. I use a diluted ammonia based cleaning solution in my cleaner which could cause damage to the coating on armature anvils.
