    Put a spinning top inside a chamber filled with smoke to see the vortex it makes when it spins. I suspect that the results will be cool.

    How are you so smart, the physics theory behind this "simple looking toy" is incredible and people may think that it's just a spinning top but the research and physics that went into this design is incredible and you should definitely get more recognition for this, well done man

      yes.. yes you should! .. as far as patenting, I'm pretty sure now that it's public that isn't an option. Anyways, sharing forces me to continue coming up with new ideas!

    What you've manufactured is also known as a centrifugal turbine, an what's so cool too is that your designs, at least aesthetically speaking, kinda converged towards professional turbines like what you'd find in an automotive turbocharger. Very well done!

    Thats so cool, you can increase the time that the spinning top remains rotating by adding some holes around the circunference and then adding the steel balls, but it will also become harder to start spinning, but will spin for a longer time, by that you increase the momentum of the spinning top.
    Also you can make them whistle

    Now that's not only a cool little item, but also a very interesting design process you showed. Loved the variations you experimented on and changed as you went! Might try printing one of these once I get my printer calibrated and running properly. Congrats!

      The pens are a ripoff... my friend has one and it's extremely hard to use. I recommend a 3D printer, or using one at a school or local library :)

    I know you're into 3D printing, but you should do a lost wax cast of one of these and make an aluminum or brass one. That'd be cool. And a pain in the ass..

    I really like the ball bearing top... it would be good if you could incorporate the bearing into the GalacTop, so that the point won't wear... the bearing would be snapped into the bottom as the pivot...

    Very impressive! One thing you might try is adding a spiral pattern in the straw. Lots of interesting variations with that.

    Oh my god man! Do you know what did you invented? The perfect rotor blade for a drone quadrocopter! If you reverse the blades and put an axle you 've got your self a powerful, quiet, extra gyroscopic propulsion system! Can you see in solidworks if it works that way?

    you should make one that instead of spinning it with breath or compressed air it uses a zip chord or a string and flies like a flying saucer! maybe using a regular galactop design with something like the marble tops enlarged and fitted around the outside

    With those first few, very propeller like models I thought of something! What about a game, similar to beyblades, where competitors design and print their own custom tops, which are then pitted together, to see which breaks, or is ejected from the arena first!

    Making the tip a small metal ball would make them even better. the tip wouldn't wear down nearly as fast when trying crazy stuff like the air compressor.

    Try attaching magnets to it and spin them on a copper plate, they'll spin much slower and stop soon but they might be able to LEVITATE!
    Consider a copper bowl rather than a plate and get some info on electromagnetic levitation
