I just ordered the Goretex version on sale to be a winter walking/easy run shoe. Not a lot of coverage of the 880 on RUclips, so this video was helpful.
I agree with your thoughts on the 880 and I’ve got about 125 miles in them. I’ve got the same wear patterns on the outsole and planning on going about 400-500 in them. I do think the upper runs a bit hot and I’m running in a hot and humid climate. Sometimes it feels like a sweater on my foot!
I love that you never buy casual shoes. Neither do I! My casual shoes are the Brooks Ghost and Saucony Kinvara. I've also been wearing the Mizuno Wave Rider's casually, as I got those to 50 miles and just couldn't run in them anymore. They just didn't match my running style at all. So now I have a casual shoe rotation! lol
great review. this is a workhorse daily trainer shoe for easy runs. super comfy. The outsole is thick eneough so that any wear wont matter. I think I can get 400 /500 miles easy on this shoe before retirement.
Feels like it's taken a while to get to 100? You've had so many shoes! I've just retired the More 3, got to 350 miles in them and then my knees started to feel increasingly unhappy on downhills.
Yeah I had them at 100 miles for a while now but just failed to record this video for ages 😂 ah ok that’s interesting… maybe the fresh foam isn’t as durable as I’d hoped then!
@@TheFODRunner they feel comfy underfoot but the knees tell a different story, basically. I'm in limbo at the mo: Mach5 or Novablast 3 are the next purchase but they feel like they'll both do the same job so not worth getting both!
Ah if not sure about a shoe get it in black me thinks! New Balance in general are seemingly passing us by at the moment. The "Pacer" shoes don't seem to be offered in our size and I have noticed the UK 13.5 in a NB does sometimes feel a little "short". As such, bit like ASICS, just don't get enthused to try ones like this although the NOVABLAST 3 might be an exception.
They passed me by last year too, these are a bit smaller for sure but I can just about get away with these… I just wish all brands used a universal sizing!!
Have had a couple of pairs of 860 now onto the 1080’s after a gait analysis told me I shouldn’t be using stability shoes. All been good though very hard wearing and great for everyday stuff. Just not as exciting as others out there.
Haha, I never buy casual shoes either. I just use the old runing shoes that don' t look quite as obnoxious(no Alphafly in the office). Are you getting the Novablast 3 btw?
I bought a pair of these and found out after a 9 day shipping trip, I had to go a full size up from a 10 to 11. They were so tight that my big toe was at the very tip of the shoe with zero room left to even wiggle. I'm not sure why NB can't get fitment right compared to other manufacturers, but it was just a venture to me to see what the hype over Fresh Foam X was about...and I'm over it.
@@TheFODRunner The worst outsole material that I have found are those thin strips of black outsole that On Running uses. I have the Cloud Monster and the outsole on the outer heel area and forefoot is rapidly disintegrating. I also had the same issue on the Cloudstratus V2
@@TheFODRunner The NB Hierro trail shoes use a vibram rubber outsole which is awesome! I think NB figured out that their outsoles are not durable eneough for trail runs?
I just bought these pretty comfy with one broken heal never repaired and bone spur and planter on the other similar to my ghost 11 but way more comfy I tried hoka they are soft but feel to unstable for older guy with bad feet glad I'm not the only one who doesn't like casual shoes was gonna try the Cruz v1 casual saw quite a few bad reviews any thoughts I just walk a lot with very bad feet
Glad you like these! Perhaps the saucony endorphin shift 3? I’m testing this now, starts off quite firm but over a few runs/walks it beds in a bit and is a really comfy high stack shoe
Like you I have bad knees and tried the Brooks Ghost 13. They were not supportive and have a 12mm drop. The 880V12 has a 8mm drop and dual layer FreshfoamX and Fuelcell which is soft, cushioning and responsive too

Gore tex version......jealous did not know they made them

Yeah great in winter autumn and spring but not ideal in summer!
a Jacquard sweater !😁

Yeah I figure I spend enough on running shoes so I really should try and get more use out of some of them!! I love the casual rotation haha!
great review.

Thanks! Yes durability is definitely this shoes strong point I reckon!

Not very exciting, but get the job done 💪 but yes I know what you mean!

Haha same here! Yes 💯 I will be, being released 1st September from what I gather 💪

I also have enjoyed the 1080v12 for easy runs.
I had v10 of the 1080s and loved them 👏
@@TheFODRunner Thank you for your videos.
I just ordered these in Orange color, would these be fine for Gym too along with running or even casual daily wear?
I used mine for every day casual wear when I was finished running in them!
New balance 880 vs Skechers max cushion?
I haven’t tried the skechers sorry!
I noticed the outsole on my New Balance More V3 is wearing down pretty quickly. My ASICS Cumulus 23 has a more durable outsole.
Yeah I think the rubber outsole on new balance is definitely not as durable as some other brands for sure

Have you used these for long runs too?
No I’ve used other shoes for long runs, I prefer a slightly lighter shoe for those as I usually do my long runs a bit faster
