Kareem Abdul-Jabbar back in the day. What an amazing player he was so fun to watch in his early years. He never quit on a play that I can remember. Mister. Hustle
Many accolades for Kareem but "Mister Hustle" would not be top ten one of them. No way am I saying he loafed just so many other things like unstoppable shot, great leader, clutch performer etc ...
Kareem and Dr J were the reasons I picked up a basketball at age 12. Kareem was such a versatile center, good passer and still is a very inspirational man. He even got me into jazz.
I have been watching the NBA since the 1970s, there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Kareem is the greatest of all time. 6 League MVPs is more than any other player, most points scored and the most unstoppable shot in history.
As an avid Laker hater, I have to admit Kareem is the GOAT. Kareem consistently defeated Sixers and Celtics in the 80s. Kareem was the greatest in high school, greatest in college ( Walton is only equal) , the greatest in the pros. They even a change a rule because of Kareem.
@@DrD3m3nt0 John Wooden said Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was that greatest player he has ever coached. John Wooden coached both Kareem and Bill Walton and saw them every day in practice, and he said Kareem was better.

@Ladon Simons If Wilt Chamberlain was the greatest he would not have lost to Bill Russell virtually everytime they played. Bill Russell also has more MVPs than Chamberlain. When Kareem Abdul-Jabbar came into the league, he dominated Chamberlain during their matchups. There is no doubt that Chamberlain was a great player, but he was not as good as Kareem, and it is debatable as to whether he was as good as Bill Russell.
@@anthonykyles4310 He would have won the 1980 Finals MVP if he wasn't injured for game 6, that is the game where Magic John started at Center and scored 42 points against Caldwell Jones and Daryll Dawkins, but Kareem was the best player in that series, he is the one who gave the Lakers the 3-2 advantage in the series. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that Kareem was better than Jordan. I watched Kareem play in his prime, and watched Jordan's entre career. If Kareem was as selfish as Jordan was with the Basketball, he would have won more finals MVPs. But Kareem did not shoot as much as Jordan, and when he was doubled and tripled teamed, he passed the ball out of the triple team, to allow the team to get a better shot. Kareem knew that their was no I in Team.
@@ilovebasketball666 it's more than that. In That "era" , before split cheeks Silver came along, you could have brutality ha . You just don't get it . People nowadays don't remember this was football for tall people!
I was lucky enough to remember Kareem at his peak from '75-84. Dude was devastating in the post on Offense and Defense. If Blocks (and Steals) were recorded back in the 60's, I believe Wilt, Bill and Kareem would be 3rd , 2nd, 1st on the all time Blocks leaders list. No-one under 6'10" would enter the key without being contested by Kareem!!
@@jeromegarner7196 Johnny Arnett is an NBA statistician vlogger. I recall he did a video of crazy stats. The 76'ers had a statistician from the 60's that recorded blocks. Wilt was averaging over 5 bpg for a few seasons. It dropped off so his life time totals may be lower than Kareem, but his average compared to Mark Eaton. The Celtics had a similar sceanrio with Bill Russell averaging nearly 5 bpg for a longer period.
Kareem is not close to Hakeem in Blocks. Even if give Kareem average of his 3 best seasons in place of the ones they did not record blocks he is still behind Hakeem.
I had the immense pleasure of growing up in LA in the 80's and watching Kareem night in and night out. Magic was incredible of course but Kareem was the backbone of showtime. The very definition of consistency. The ultimate pro
People talk about Magic carrying Kareem and as much as I love Magic Kareem made his job easier in the early years. Kareem's an underrated passer and defender as well and was stronger than he looked, yoga helped with flexibility also. Kareem averaged 21.7 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in 6 games in the 1987 NBA Finals, second to last one.
I agree. Magic gets more love, I think, because he was gregarious and flashier. Most of the time, the ball went to Kareem for end game scenarios until the last couple of years.
By the way… Kareem got the scoring record almost entirely on 2-pointers and free throws (1-18 in his career). LeBron James has 2,140 made three pointers while looking to break the record next season. Just a thought.
But 3's are lower percentage shots. LeBron is actually and example of a player who makes most of his 2's with layups and dunks, and obviously far more 3's attempted.. and made. Inside is more open now though more often and help inside %, back then was a war in the paint. And yes, we could maybe add in Kareems college years aswell If ppl think LeBrons stats are at centre of the arguement...should do same for Malone and MJ too.. although college will have lower points caus hero ball isn't a very welcome thing in college.. But the accumulation(of others missed years) would knock LBJs claim on a few spots in all time stats.
yes but if Lebron also took all his 26825 FGA at the 2 point area, with a career 2pt fg% of 55.2%, he would have been much closer to the scoring record or maybe even surpassed it already, if you factor in the fact that he could go to the line more often if he doesn't take 3s. LBJ is not even considered a scorer.😅
@@yaj2805 he shot less than 75% from the free throw line and 35% past 5 feet from the basket. If it's not layups and dunks he's so inefficient. LeBron was able to do the layups and dunks because of the spacing we have now and the touch fouls. You can see him dunk without any challenge
I love the show, but The Chief needed to be in this video. Just pull his interview with Cedric Maxwell from Cedric’s podcast where Chief is telling MJ “ I ain’t scared of you, young fella. I had to guard the greatest player in history, Mr. Abdul-Jabbar.” Was so funny and a great story by The Chief!
I agree with Dr. J. This brother had the most devastated unstoppable shot in the history of Basketball. If I was starting a team, I'd start with Kareem. Deadly sky hook.
This was a great video. In HS I shot a running baby hook. I knew when to pick my spot especially being a lefty. The sky hook was poetry in my view. Watching and listening to games called by Chick Hearn in that era was an honor especially growing up in LA. So many times under duress along the baseline, he would hit the sky hook from 17 feet out. Just incredible. If he was mad, then he would make them left handed which wasn't fair. The last hight was awesome against Mark Eaton (UCLA alumn RIP). He did a James Worthy spin move along the baseline to finish with a dunk. Even today, that was impressive. All of these centers today thinking they're Steph Curry shooting 3's is painful to watch. There were times when the Captain would play mad. Oh my God. I felt bad for the other team because he would bring the entire arsenal to the game. Hook shots, banking jump shots from 15 to 17 feel out. Blocking a shot and running the break. All in the same play. As much as I loved Shaq with my Lakers, Kareem was my guy.
Kareem was just amazing as a basketball player and humanitarian. I agree with Grant Hill. I am absolutely shocked that no player has at least attempted to replicate the sky hook.
Every Big man is shooting 3"s lately.Kareem should be tutoring upcoming talent 24/7 . Then one day someone can bring the Sky hook back to dominance !!! Hopefully the NBA will realize this and utilize Kareems mentorship !!!
I dislike the "GOAT" conversation because it belittles so many. Would you entertain a show about the NBA torchbearers, players who put the NBA on the map or took it to a new level? From George Mikan to Steph Curry there are many who have paved the way and no great player need be slighted.
dude i always say the same thing lol the second you try to label someone the goat, youre taking away everything from everyone. im not a lebron fan, but you take away everything hes accomplished by saying jordan is the goat. and noone will ever know, because its impossible to compare eras. maybe kareem and wilt wouldnt be as revered if they played against a fit shaq and say maybe giannas. maybe bill russell wouldnt be such a legend if he played against barkley or rodman. but would any of those guys be as great as they were without the forefathers? there are so many guys that revolutionized the game of basketball and positions specifically.. and had a lot of success. its like oh bird or lebron.. what about pippen? i dont even think steph is ever mentioned in the pg goat debate. its always magic or stockton, lmao 2 totally different players with different surrounding casts. and i loved that you said mikan. dude was a 7 time champion. nicknamed mr basketball. he was literally the first goat. so wouldnt/shouldnt the first goat, be the ultimate one?
Yea, diff eras and positions makes it kinda pointless, beyond that...alot of players contribute the most in ways that don't result in as many stats or chips.. so it's certainly not fair, esp on those players.
@@gdirty7380 by saying MJ was the goat, it doesn’t take away everything that Lebron has accomplished, sorry that’s just an asinine statement. It does say that MJ is better than Lebron because he just is

I think the 5 deadliest weapons (equally) were The Sky Hook, Turn Around Fadeaway(2 players), Dream Shake, Crossover( 2 players) and the Stepback move.
I had the pleasure of watching Kareem from 76 until he retirement, and it's incredible what he did to the NBA. But the one thing that wasn't shown in this video, is that Kareem actually can shoot the hook shot with BOTH hands. Yes, BOTH hands, so I don't know why media outlets never show this about him. The reason Kareem never gets the respect that's due to him, is because as a converted muslim, he openly expressed his distaste for white people, so he became aloof and distant from media. That mindset ruined him from making millions of dollars in endorsements. In fact, Kareem could have been the one to lead black people into huge endorsement contracts had he had an open mind towards the media. But instead, it was given to Michael Jordan. Because you have to remember, Jordan entered the league when Kareem still had a few years to play under his belt, cable TV had already been introduced to the general public long before Jordan entered the league, so it wouldn't have been far fetched that Kareem could have been THAT guy. So this notion that LeBron James is in the same sentence with Kareem, is absolutely ridiculous, he can't even sit in the same room with Kareem.
Why are you attacking LeBron. On the court, he is clearly on a level that very few players have ever been on, and he's been there for a very long time.
@@richdouglas2311 That may very well be the most ridiculous comment ever. 20 years of 24.6 & 11.2; SIX MVPs; a SIX time NBA champion w/ finals MVPs at age 23 and 37 and THIS after a college career so dominant that in his 3 years at UCLA, he won more NCAA Championships (3) than he LOST GAMES (2). He was routinely on the All Defense Team & Most impressively (to me) is that while relying mainly on his hook shot esp. late in his career, his FG% is 55.9% for TWENTY YEARS!!! He never needed to orchestrate so called super team's & ALWAYS represented The NBA, & the USA with class. I grew up loving Pete Maravich & Dr. J. & D. Thompson & have been a huge 76ers fan ever since The Nets sold Erving (& McGinnis) to Philly so Kareem was never my favorite-I hated the guy as a player BECAUSE he was SO unstoppable..but OVERrated??? Not even possible. You sound like an idiot
When they say you got to have great balance to make the hook shot, what they are implying is that you have to sacrifice athletic explosiveness for control and stability. A lot of players would get blocked unless they were taller and longer when fully outstretched off of a one legged hop than there fully outstretched opponent who's jumping with both legs.
Don’t know if that is truly accurate. Being only 5’ 11” I used to have a one hand push back pump shot in high school that was very hard to defend . Just saying.
Done right, it can be plenty explosive. I was pretty good offensively as a 6'3 power forward back in the day, and cultivated the hook shot because I didn't have a great vertical and loved Kareem. Usually undersized, I added a shoulder bump to the defender's chest as I pivoted in order to get the shot off, taking advantage of my leverage to create room. It looked ugly and would probably be considered an offensive foul in the current era's candy-assed perimeter-crazy basketball world, but it allowed me to be a reliable support scorer and got a TON of fouls called against the other team's bigs--usually lanky tall guys who were sure they could block a tree stump guy like me.
In Kareem's case, the sky hook could not be blocked. Once it left his hand, any "block" was goaltending. So the defenses options where 1) foul; 2)block it while it was in his hand (good luck); or 3) hope it didn't go in
I'm a Patrick Ewing and Wilt fan. But Ewing got easily out scored by Hakeem, Shaq and David Robinson. Ewing was the 4th best center of the 90s. Wilt was faster than David Robinson. Can jump higher than any of them and is better passer and has more moves and better rebounder. Wilt defended Kareem better than Hakeem, Ewing did. Wilt would outscore any of Shaq,,Ewing, David Robinson and Hakeem. Hakeem would give Wilt and Kareem the most trouble. Ewing would be outscored 27-30 to 15-19. Wilt would have 40pt games on Ewing and so would Kareem. Wilt gets back on defense better than any of them. VS Shaq Wilt would be able to use full strength without breaking a player. Wilt would wear out Shaq by getting down court quicker on offense and his defense on Shaq. Wilt would out PPG, RPG and APG all of them. Hakeem or Wilt would be too 2 defenders our of all of them. Kareem did not get down court on fastbreaks good and did not get back on defense as good as Wilt, Hakeem and David Robinson.

@Truth is Truth! 2022 And imagine if Ray and Kyrie's bailout 3's rimmed out and there was no Covid-19. LeBron would be 1-8 in the Finals. To be fair, Bron got screwed in 2015 with the Kyrie and Love injuries. I'd give him a 58% chance to win that series with both teams healthy.
@Truth is Truth! 2022 I think Bron COULD have made the Finals with one other star (a Chris Paul, an Amare Stoudemire, etc.) but yes, his decision to take the shortcut team-stacking route is why he's not top 5 all-time. None of LeBron's rings are impressive. It took a bailout miracle and Timmy choking a 2-foot bunny over 6'7" Shane Battier (while Shane hit 6 three's in that Game 7) for him to win in 2013 and Dray's BS suspension/Steph at 70%/Bogut injury/Iggy injury swayed that 2016 Finals. If he and AD don't get 5 months of rest in 2020 because of Covid-19, there's zero chance he wins that chip. His 2012 stretch from that 45-point game 6 in Boston to the Finals win over a dangerous OKC team is the most impressive month of his career. But why was he down 3-2 to the old Celtics big 3 with Wade and Bosh in the first place? And the Heat beat OKC 4-1 in large part because James Harden did his usual playoff choking routine. If 2012 WCF Harden showed up in the Finals, the Thunder probably win.
@Truth is Truth! 2022 yup I definitely agree with that. The Rose/Noah Bulls would have beaten Bron without a superteam and perfect handpicked role players like the 2nd best shooter of all-time Ray Allen and the master of intangibles, Shane Battier.
Kareem was not only a great player, he inspired his teammates BOTH on and off the court. He handled his life and the press with wisdom and care .He scholar and a martial artist.
Kareem’s basketball career is unparalleled. My father used to go watch Kareem warm up before the games. He said he would hit 10 in a row with his right hand way out on the baseline (right inside where the 3pt line would be), then go to the other baseline and hit 10 with his left hand. Scary precision.
Not that it matters to anyone but my former supervisor and ex- NBA player, Quintin Dailey(a very good and kind man, may he rest in peace), used to tell us all about the NBA and its players and meticulously detailed why Kareem was the greatest player in NBA history.
I remember watching Kareem when he played with Milwaukee Bucks back in the early 70's with Oscar Robertson and Kareem would go baseline or into the paint Oscar would pass the ball to him and that skyhook was automatic . I swear it seemed he never missed. If the game was close or they were losing by a point, you knew who the ball was going to and the other team couldn't stop what was going to happen . He's the greatest of all time without a doubt .
Kareem Abdul-Jabbar made me want to learn his iconic hook shot when I was a teen. I even started wearing Adidas shoes because he wore them; still wearing them 60 years later...

Was jordan on a super team with Scotty, Cartwright then adding rodman on the second run? How is wade and Lebron a super team(bosh was just a Allstar not a hall of famer or elite player)………Cleveland only had Kyrie and Lebron as elite players with a band of average role players and one(Kevin love iffy 18 a game half ass all star). How about the 2020 lakers how Al were they a super team😒……….Lebron and one allstar in AD and Lebron carried him with a bunch of barly ok role players? See how your argument falls apart in the wake of facts, Kareem had the most allstar and elite player of any Lebron team and Lebron will blow his point total outta the water with way less games which means he carried his teams……..facts! 👊🏽😮
Hook is a great shot! You don’t have to stop and coil up both hands so you can exploit pretty much any shot window with it against similar size or slightly taller defenders. Mine looked a lot more like Magic’s baby hook, much flatter arc than Cap’s Sky hook. When it was falling, I was a little bit of a menace on the playground! Like the finger roll, the hook requires your touch to be spot on. If I wasn’t feeling it (and that happened a lot), I would stick to outside jumpers and maybe a quick drive into the key for the lefty floater.
YOU MADE SOME GOOD POINTS ABOUT THE HOOK SHOT I WILL ADD TO IT FINISH IT OFF AND GIVE MORE INSIGHT TO YOU AND OTHER PLAYERS AS A SUPERIOR HOOK SHOT ARTIST MYSELF... THE OTHER SUPERIORITY OF THE HOOK SHOT IS AT WITH YOUR LEFT ARM IF YOUR RIGHT HANDED AND YOUR BODY YOU KEEP THE DEFENDER AWAY FROM THE BALL BEING BLOCKED PLUS WITH HIGH ELEVATION IT MAKES IT EVEN THAT MUCH HARDER TO BLOCK SO THAT'S WHY THAT SHOT WAS SO EFFECTIVE FOR SO MANY YEARS FOR KAREEM AND IT'S SO SAD FOR PLAYERS TODAY THAT THEY'RE SO BUSY TRYING TO IMITATE THE STYLE OF MICHAEL JORDAN WHICH WAS PRETTY BUT NOT ALWAYS EFFECTIVE TO WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP AND TRYING TO IMITATE LAZY PEOPLE WHO WANT TO GET AN EXTRA POINT INSTEAD OF WORKING FOR A TWO-POINT THAT THEY DON'T DEVELOP THE HOOK SHOT
Love this channel. I despise the mythical “goat” discussion because it’s extremely biased from the point of one’s personal bias. That said it seems to only factor only what guys do in the pros KAJ was dominant not only as a high schooler but a collegian and obviously a pro. He was 1st team all nba his rookie year and took an expansion franchise to the championship and league mvp his second year. NO ONE has done that. This is never discussed or brought up. Factor in he played against the greatest at his position through the entirety of his career. From Wilt to Ewing. Only great center he didn’t play against was Mikan, Russ and Shaq he’s not in the discussion because he didn’t want to be a marketing whore selling fast food, sugary drinks and other off the basketball court garbage. Not to mention he had a crappy relationship with the media who considered him surly and uppity due to his intellect. oh one more thing. He wasn’t flashy enough. But when you look at strictly the basketball aspect. He’s definitely the mythical GOAT at all levels.
Correction. He DID play against Shaq and OWNED him offensively AND defensively. The ONLY advantage Shaq has on him was “on the break.” NO ONE can handle Shaq with a “head of steam!”
The sky hook was actually much more popular during kareems era than many vids lead the viewer to believe. The shot was used alot on the playgrounds and actually very practical for any player height. We played much more physically and lots of kids imitated kareems back in/ bump and either quick turn or two step to get closer to or fade out from the hole. We also used the front arm to stiff arm or shove down the defender/enemy. To be honest i cant remember a street game without some blood and bruises in the 70s-80s, it was part of the game. I think even kareem would say it was both a physical contact shot and a deft touch amidst the contact. Oh also bankin the hook was important too and it usually made a more predictable miss/ rebound.
`Kareem gets the nod over Jordan, LeBron, Wilt and Kobe as the GOAT because he played for 20 years, won 6 NBA Championships and 3 College Championships. Jordan was more flashy and charismatic but Kareem being great for 20 years gives him the edge as the GOAT!

The Kareem story I'll always remember was the fire in his home which destroyed a large number of his precious jazz record collection. I think he had over five thousand LPs. Last I read, he was able to recover some of them through friends and generous donors, but I don't know what else happened after that... ...and of course, that one and only skyhook. That was his layup shot. Too easy for him, and he owned it.

I think Kareem was one of a hand full of mount Rushmore basketball quality players throughout the history of the game. However, I disagree with Dr. J regarding him calling Kareem the greatest GOAT. Wilt Chamberlain was a much more prolific rebounder and shot blocker. As a Matter of fact Wilt finished with several thousand more lifetime rebounds playing 7 less seasons 13 to 20. When watching the 72 semi-finals, I watched an aging Wilt Chamberlain out play Kareem when it counted, leading the Lakers to victory over the Bucks in 6 games. He Held Kareem to 47% shooting from the field when his season avg was 55%. He blocked 11 shots in that deciding game including 5 against Kareem. He out rebounded kareem as well. Bill Russell put it bluntly doing color commentary stated "The Lakers are scared of Kareem, but the Bucks are absolutely terrified of Wilt". That about sums it up. Kareem also never played against Wilt in his prime if you could imagine that scenario. Yes Kareem scored more points lifetime, but needed more games to surpass Wilt. Wilt holds more NBA records than any other player in history[ including Jordan and LeBron] some 49 years after he played his last game in 73. Wilt has been a victim of time forgetting his amazing exploits on the court, but make no mistake he was the most dominant player the game has ever seen. He is the GOAT.
game 3 in portland the 2nd round of the 83 playoffs. the lakers are up 2-0 in the series but the blazers are making this a game. in OT with the shot clock winding down magic passes to kareem 16 or so feet from the basket. in one motion (because he was running) kareem catches the ball and goes for the skyhook. nothing but net! he runs back up the court laughing. he turns sees magic coming and they start pointing at each other and they high five! that was a moment!
It was amazing to see so many stone-cold basketball legends be interviewed for this Kareem tribute. It was a very sad day when he left Milwaukee for sunny L.A.
8being a guy that got into basketball in the early 80s... to me was just Magic and Kareem... And the wonderful guys around them (Worthy, Green, Cooper). Although Kareem had already passed his best it was still amazing to see him playing and performing on the court
The sky hook is gone for the same reason no one shoots the granny style underhand free throws. Style over function. The day a star uses this move as their primary move the kids will start practicing it and you'll see it again . Until then you'll only see it on grainy low resolution tape.
The reason no one does the sky hook you need to be a phenomenal athlete to do it consistently at different distances. The Goat. Points leader without 3 pointers. Team leader by example. Sorry MJ, Lebron, Kobe, Bill Russell, and Wilt.
As a youngin' I was a huge Seattle Supersonics fan. I watched numerous battles between Kareem Abdul Jabbar & Jack Sikma in late 70's, early 80's. Kareem with the unstoppable hook shot; Sikma w the unguardable behind the head step-back jumper. At times, both would go back n' forth; using their patented moves against each other. For the most part, Sikma, w the help of Lonnie Shelton, Paul Silas & backup Sam Donaldson, did a yeoman's job guarding Kareem, but containing him simply wasn't happenin.' Jabbar's hook shot was too efficient; a work of art; a thing of beauty; and was effective from any range. Even to this day, its still the most devastating offensive move/weapon the game has ever seen.
I watched Kareem play and dominate in college and the pros. He is incredibly intelligent and has written several books. Kareem does not engage in the stupid “Who’s the number one player of all time” because of his humility and intelligence. No one knows what is going to unfold in the next 500 or 1,000 years? I had the great privilege of seeing him play in person a few times when he played with the Lakers and he was more amazing in person than on TV. He played a long time and was fun to watch except when played the Celtics my team.
Kareem is likely the leading shot blocker of the NBA as well. If statistics is the bar for goat then Kareem is a lock with a good argument for Wilt Chamberlain in that conversation. That's it because defense is a statistic that many forget about. Kareem is tops in both accounts. He has six championships and the most MVPs in NBA history in an era that she has faced more NBA Hall of famers than any other player in history. So of all of the highest concentration of Hall of famers he still tops them all. So someone humbly passing his scoring title next year falls a little short in my opinion of automatically dismissing Kareem's many other milestones, MVPs and at least two more championships under his belt. To add, if this was about championships which really is the only thing that matters, then Bill Russell is the most disrespected man in the NBA.
Kareem came in the NBA when he was 22 so no one can really pass his scoring total because if he comes in the NBA like Lebron and Kobe at 18 he would have roughly 46000 total points not 38000 plus and that fact further proves his greatness.
Thx to Kareem. I stole his technic, as i was much younger and shorter, then the guys, i was battling on the court. I trained the hook over and over and over. But when i figured it out, i shot over 60% of them and that shifted my on a level, i could compete with much stronger guys. As i loved playing defense anyways, that was a great time.

Kareem got the scoring record almost entirely on 2-pointers and free throws (1-18 in his career).
LeBron James has 2,140 made three pointers while looking to break the record next season.
Just a thought.
The Capt also played college ball , Bron didn’t . Add those UCLA #s and It’s mind boggling really .😊
Kareem could have shot 3s. That wasn’t his game.
yes but if Lebron also took all his 26825 FGA at the 2 point area, with a career 2pt fg% of 55.2%, he would have been much closer to the scoring record or maybe even surpassed it already, if you factor in the fact that he could go to the line more often if he doesn't take 3s.

2 underrated players in my opinion. Tim Duncan and David Robinson

The video is about Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Not Michael Jordan or LeBron
Put some respect on it
Sorry, but Kareem is both great and over-rated.
So the defenses options where 1) foul; 2)block it while it was in his hand (good luck); or 3) hope it didn't go in
Skill, finesse, basketball IQ, durability, just to name a few and most of all, unstoppable. Kareem =goat.

Last I read, he was able to recover some of them through friends and generous donors, but I don't know what else happened after that...
...and of course, that one and only skyhook. That was his layup shot. Too easy for him, and he owned it.
As a kid I also remember Elvin Hayes had an ungradable turnaround jump shot..Nuf said!
Greatest resume in basketball.
I would love to see Giannis learn the sky hook.
Or even master the more simpler jump hook...
I would love to see the refs actual call travel on Giannis, when he does his euro step
If Giannis had a hook shot. Hoooooolllllllyyy shit.
The general ocky way Neva Neva Neva 💯
He would be unstoppable
Your bball channel is the best dude 👍!! Good work 😁
MY GOAT AND ALWAYS WILL...BE ..NOT ONE 3..POINTER....
The Dream Team of my life:
Starting five:
PG: Magic Johnson
SG: Michael Jordan
SF: Larry Bird
PF: Hakeen Olajuwon
CE: Kareen Abdul-Jabbar
Bench: Isiah Thomas, Steph Curry, Kobe Bryant, Scottie Pippen, Lebron James, Dennis Rodman, Shaquille O'Neal.
4 great passers
5 three-point shooters
5 great defenders
5 great scoreers
3 incredible centers
4 great rebounders
Cant argue, but Tim Duncan and Karl Malone, AI, need to be here somewhere..
The combination of huge hands, fineness, and discipline to pull it off with consistency is rare...
Do a Wilt Chamberlain video.
From high school…to college…to the NBA this man has left a trail of Championship banners that is unmatched….and is the leading scorer and top ten in boards…6 MVPS 2 Finals MVPS 6 Championships with 2 different teams…most unstoppable move in the history of the game…He is the greatest player to ever touch a basketball 💯💯
YEAH TAKE THAT MICHAEL JORDAN
BOOM!! Include the fact that he could not come in the NBA until he was 22 and High Schoolers straight into the NBA can barely get close to his 38000 plus. Straight out of High School he would have 46000 points. BOOM!
@@Iambriangregory Jordan did get swept by Bird lead Boston, Detroit Pistons knocked him around 3yrs in row, even Milwaukee defeated him... once Jordan lead Bull's finally beat Detroit the Rest is History, now for Kareem he did win a Ring 💍 his 2yr in the NBA, in 1974 Dave Cowens led Celtics knocked of Kareem lead Milwaukee team in NBA finals, Kareem traded to Los Angeles Lakers 1975, from 1975-1979 miss the playoffs or 1st Round or 2nd Round, Conference Finals exit before Magic got there, during the yrs 1975-1979 Kareem had 2 HOF'S JAMAL SILKY WILKES AND ADRIAN DANTLEY PLAYING WITH HIM COULD GET IT DONE..ONCE MAGIC GOT THERE LOS ANGELES LAKERS WERE GIVING TEAMS AGAIN, 1983 NBA FINALS KAREEM AND MAGIC SWEPT BY MOSES MALONE LED 76ERS FOFOFO, 1985 KAREEM wins 2nd Finals MVP'S award, ALL time leading scorer in NBA History...Back to Jordan he played at a level higher than Kareem once NBA Finals Competition started
@@anthonykyles4310 thank you for the walk through basketball history but you kind of ruined it all talking with the arbitrary statement that he played in a higher level it's all arbitrary it's all a mixture of random events and the fact remains just to keep it simple a good big man beats ugly little man so goodbye Michael Jordan you can't beat him good big man and don't fantasize that he can he just sound ridiculous. And if you want some visual proof go on RUclips and look at what happened when jabbar played played Dr j one on one and what he did to Dr j that should keep you quiet forever! No competition for Kareem and Dr j was the pre Michael Jordan that Michael Jordan learned from
@@Iambriangregory don't mention Dr J in same breath as Jordan...Dr J was overrated 😴 did win anything until Moses Malone came board, back to Kareem had drought of 9 yr before he was in the winners Circle only thing he has is longevity...I rest my case
Kareem is also hands down the greatest college basketball player of all time! Let us not forget freshmen were not eligible to play back then.
KAREEM ABDUL JABBAR DID DOMINATE THE NBA. HE IS THE ALL TIME LEADER IN SCORING
Thank you (again).
Giannis should be the next successor to Kareem to master the skyhook. Lol the move is basically the Rasengan of basketball atp.
This man said the Rasengan of basketball lmao
Giannis already has a move, the euro step that doesn't get called a travel.
Kareem the best of all time? Hmmm. I"ll go with the guy who has ELEVEN RINGS. Russell. Best team player. On floor coach.
Been loving winning time on HBO
The best of all time -- I'd make a basket and fill it with 10 players. Kareem would be the first to go in my basket.
game 3 in portland the 2nd round of the 83 playoffs. the lakers are up 2-0 in the series but the blazers are making this a game. in OT with the shot clock winding down magic passes to kareem 16 or so feet from the basket. in one motion (because he was running) kareem catches the ball and goes for the skyhook. nothing but net! he runs back up the court laughing. he turns sees magic coming and they start pointing at each other and they high five! that was a moment!
It was amazing to see so many stone-cold basketball legends be interviewed for this Kareem tribute. It was a very sad day when he left Milwaukee for sunny L.A.
Left Milwaukee on 1975 and did win nothing until Magic 🎩 was drafted...
I agree Kareem as the greatest center but big shout out to my favorite growing up earl Perl Monroe 👍🏿
I think the best player surely must have won most MVPs. And That Is Kareem. ❤
They changed the rules to slow Kareem, mvps etc Kareem, toughest shot to stop in the history of the game.
NCAA banned dunking for a few years, I believe, because of him specifically.
KAREEM is the Goat. And still lead the NBA in scoring. Wow. That hook shot is the Master weapon
The reason no one does the sky hook you need to be a phenomenal athlete to do it consistently at different distances. The Goat. Points leader without 3 pointers. Team leader by example. Sorry MJ, Lebron, Kobe, Bill Russell, and Wilt.
My first basketball 🏀 move I learned. On the courts in downtown Los Angele, early 80s: the sky hook!
I dont need convincing. I went to those Milwaukee games when Kareem was paired with the Big O. Thrilling ti watch❤
I just SUBSCRIBED!
Kareem is unsung because he played with such a quiet dignity. Off the court, he didn't draw the spotlight to what he had just done on the court.
Should have the wonderful interview with Coach Wooden, when he was asked about Kareem.
That clip where he goes at mark Eaton was awesome!
THAT IS WHEN KAREEM ABDUL JABBAR PASSED WILT CHAMBERLAIN ON THE ALL TIME SCORING LIST
He was the inspiration. And i agree, i dont understand, why guys do not learn that shot. It is so great.
Thx for the video. Once again, a great one.
Yeah playing 2K everyday will definitely get your reps up bro 💪🏽
@@antwahnredding6294 You talking about the videogame? lol, i am not that young unfortunatly. i loved to play NBA live before the 2000s. Those were great games. Modern NBA-videogames i do not like that much.
Yes what a great great player.
I had season Laker tickets 84-88 when the tickets were $1,500 for the regular season.I had some great times at The Forum watching the Lakers .
I'm not sure I have enough perspective, but I lean towards Wilt Chamberlain as the GOAT, even though it's before my time.
I agree with you.
Wilt Chamberlain lacked the will to win that the truly great ones have.
Fact no will to win...all bout stats and records
@@anthonykyles4310 I suppose Earl Campbell had no will to win either because his team wasn't successful? It takes more than 1 player to make a winning team. Does anyone remember the Bulls record during Jordan's first few years? Humans have a short memory and attention span and we always weight things heavier that happened during our lifetime or something we witnessed.
@@MaineWolverine you mentioned Earl Campbell his teams just ciukd get over the Hump against the Steele Curtain. You mention Jordan I do Remember his Bull's teams 1984-1986 his 1st few yrs never above 50%, winning, from 1987 on started to win over 50%, of games
Excellent presentation of Kareem and those who played against him (Doc's the G.O.A.T. - and it seems Shaq has allowed people to talk him out of taht fact - but I ain't mad at him).
He was the best ever. The sky hook was UNSTOPPABLE🏀
Got swept in 1983 NBA FINALS FOFOFO MOSES PUSHED HIM AROUND
I used a hybrid hook shot in high school. Had to over some tall guys
I agree with you. Kareem is the 2nd greatest of all time.
Players today want to sit back and launch 3 pointers all day.
Kareem Skyhooks should be a show or documentary by itself
Day 641 of trying to get Sean David to acknowledge that I dunked on him in front of everyone in the summer of '99
Steven Adams got a funky mini skyhook he uses on occasion, should expand on it,got himself a niche there.could be a game changer given his ability to create isolation screens the way he do
We had a guy on our HS team that was a HUGE KAJ fan. He would jack up Sky Hooks from anywhere. Opposing teams noticed this, and their fans would yell "skyhook"! And this guy would try that shot. Finally the coach had to bench him cause he was costing us games with his constant SkyHooks
