So the reason that that one plant was dying and growing at the same time, is because it was searching for sunlight. If a plant doesn't get enough light, it will grow really fast in the length to try and get out of a shadowy place, but it will not have any energy left for the rest of the plant, so that's why the leaves were dying.
nice. thank you!
wow. it’s sad tho
Oh that made me sad. I hope they took those plants somewhere where they could be happy
thats very useful info because it explains whats happening to my succulent in my livingroom. thanks!
Thank you for sharing that, very useful.
I think u have to see who can make it through 3months..to really see who the heavy hitters are! In fact most plants ,even high light plants, can make it through 30 days easy peasy. Do a part 2! All-Star edition (3months long!)
Who lasts the whole winter ....never watched this channel, they probably live in California and don't even get a real winter... but in the midwest it's a problem!
@@daturarose no they live in Toronto lol
@@daturarose lol they live in Canada
@@daturarose The CA 45 degree winter ain't no joke
Yes we want all star edition 😂 this was good
I AM SO EMOTIONAL, SO PROUD OF ALL THE CONTESTANTS! 😭
Ya’ll did a great job! All winners, all winners!
Kak Nessie 😱
2:22 Kelsey entering the washroom and saying "how's everybody doing?" and having none of the plants reply is a big mood 😂
This is one of those videos that you don't think you ever need but then realized that you actually needed it.
GRLCHILL Exactly I love how entertaining they made it!! Headed to lowes tomoro...I think I will give my thumb another try.
pls, keep us updated on this progress! I kill all my plants so I need to see them LIVEEEE
exactly
💯👏👏
GRLCHILL I actually was searching this very thing when I found this because I want something in the bathroom. Lol!
"i don't get this, what are we doing right?!?!" a sentence i've never said before
yesssss loool
I definitely have.. 😶
I have never been able to keep a fern alive for a week period. I'm impressed already.
seriously all ferns seem to have a death wish, no matter how you water them lol
Sameee. The only plants I've managed to keep alive are cacti and aloe.
imafake2807 I have loads of house plants, but the fern I had is one of the few plants I’ve killed
I work in a nursery and grow numerous types of ferns every year. They do great outside, but I think it’s too bright and not humid enough in our houses
bathroom is the perfect place! shower humidity
This was so extra I LOVED IT. I was so invested that I low-key expected the plants to respond when Kelsey asked how they were doing on day 7 LOLOLOLOL.
Plant Games.... Yes! I'm up for any other Games they are willing to make. How to make something so simple so entertaining! The Sorry Girls, master-schemers
Snake plant, Pothos, and ZZ should win. I have had all 3 in no window bathrooms and they've all done well. My snake plant is doing well in my bathroom rn. A year strong.
xoxochad do u think getting plants from lowes is ok? I want a ZZ and snake plant. Its so hard to find fidle leaf plant.
Yes of course! I get a lot of my plants from walmart, home depot and lowes. Lowes if they have a garden center usually will have a ZZ plant, same for home depot. Home depot has fiddle leaf plants but it's rare! usually around spring/ending of summer!
CPR4THEBODY right now home depot and ikea are full of fiddle leaf figs for like $25, decent size
I've flourishing ZZ in low light for 2 years. Then all of a sudden, it started yellowing and leaves and branches were falling off while it was in the same spot. :-(
@@CPR4THEBODYlivingaenrichedlife go to a garden center - they take good care of their plants
Interesting! I had a spider plant in a low-to-zero-sunlight area (depending on the time of year) for about 2 years and it did slowly die... but i moved it to a windowsill and it is perking up again! Such a hearty lil guy
WOWOW! Completely in love with this challenge because I always kill my plants!! 😵🌱 CAN’T WAIT TO GROW SOME PLANTS NOW 💖😂
Linda Thao Omg girl I just told my hubby im headed to lowes in am!!
The music makes everything better
The reason why some plants can survive in low/zero sunlight is because they use a process called "cellular respiration", using water and glucose, rather than light (as in photosynthesis), to create energy! Loved this challenge! I would love to see a similar one, where you test plants in a low light room, rather than zero light :)
My 2 floor house is backed up on a hill so that the entry way on the street floor is really low light. It faces North/North East n just get a little bit of light at sun up n at sun down. To make things more challenging, there are these narrow, vertical slit-like windows that have ORANGE/amber like resine in place of see thru glass. Getting anything to grow in there is going to be a challenge. There's some light that comes down from the wide stairwell so I'm encouraged to try the plants used in the video. Too bad they didn't print out the names of the plants, I didn't catch them all. Happy growing n a great Spring to all!
@@isabellelaval7294 a zz plant will probably be your best bet for that area. you could try a pothos but im not sure it would survive too well. zz plants seem to be the plants that can survive the least amount of light. you might want to try something aquatic like a marimo moss ball, those dont need a lot of light at all
All plants do cellular respiration. Actually all living things pretty much do. Plants do that photosynthesis to make the glucose which they break down into energy in cellular respiration. Without sun, they can’t make more glucose and will eventually run out
This is partly true. Plants must perform photosynthesis as well as cellular respiration in order to survive. Plants are autotrophs, meaning they produce their own food using inorganic substances like light and carbon dioxide. Photosynthesis is carbon dioxide + water + light energy = glucose + oxygen. Cellular respiration is glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water + ATP (chemical energy). Eventually, the plants would run out of the glucose they stored from photosynthesis and they would be unable to perform cellular respiration. Essentially, they would starve to death. It’s very interesting to see how long plants can live on their stored glucose molecules.
They don't use it as an alternative, they still NEED light to survive which is being obtained through the bathroom light. These plants would not grow and thrive in an dark room.
This is hilarious 😂 love that you made a game out of it instead of just a plain old experiment
A lot plants can take a period of darkness, it's their resting period. During that time they don't want as much water, they just don't want to be completely dried out. The less light, the less water! I live in Sweden and it gets pretty dark here during winter, some months only have like six or seven light hours per 24h. And the plants still make it, even the ones who want much light.
Yes if you have conditions like that, it’s best to keep things a little cooler and not so wet, and actually discourage them from growing. Otherwise they get all strung out and flimsy.
Rebecca L since you live in a lowlight area, what is your suggestion for lowlight houseplants?
Same here in Melbourne. Being in the southern pole snd literally being across Antarctica, out autumn and winter months get really short daylights! We get as much as only 5 hours at times of daylight with days and days of no sun and just pure dark clouds when there is a strong cold front in the middle of winter so I am worried for my houseplants!
WHERE did you get that cute little spray bottle?? Need it for my plant children!!
The butterfly plant is clearly dying, but tries to survive. Without light plants start to throw away leaves on the bottom and invest energy in growing one strand to the top, so it can reach light again. But without light it will surely be completely dead soon. Loved this video I am really surprised too!
My question is is did you revive them after? I'd be sad to hear that these beautiful plants just got thrown out.
The pothos will live in low light but the marble queen variegation will start to fade if it doesn’t receive enough light. Leaves will start to grow more green or completely green
True. Even my golden pothos turned into all green in my low light bathroom. Sad!!!
“The fern is alive even though... it needs an unusual amount of water...” *spray* *spray*
😂 I’m rolling
The bandana headband made this challenge far more intense...
I love the way this was shot and edited, I've laughed throughout the entire video 😄 also the plants are lovely and this was so useful
This was so fun, it'd be good to get an update for the winners after some more time has passed :)
Me everytime the nephytis butterfly is on screen: SAVE HIMMMMM
(I really hope you didn't just throw it out! Just give it a nicer place to be and i'm sure it will recover)
Plants can live off the artificial light of light bulbs. I did a science experiment on it in elementary school! LOL 🤣😝
"Fern calm down!" lmao!! That was hilarious.
You girls should make more plant stuff! (Maybe a video about when you should de-pot or how often you should change the soil?) I’m slowly turning into a plant mum and my room is turning into a jungle but I’m still not too educated on them
Merisa Dura I would suggest @planterina she has a lot of knowledge
No Plants were harmed in the making of this video.
Sincerely Eccentric lol thats not true😄 plants suffer with no light
I don't think that fern would agree. Or any of them, in any case.
Sarah and Carlos, hes joking LOL
Is the bulb in the flight fixture fluorescent? Even if it isn't on often plants prefer fluorescent light to incandescent. In any case I have two big snake plants and a baby pothos living in my very very dark living room (2 small windows blocked from the sun by trees and adjacent buildings) for the past 6-9ish months and they seem totes fine and are making new leaves. They grow slower than ones with lots of light but they aren't dying. The peace lily didn't seem to like it though. She has been much better since I put her outside.
Wow! I didn't know you could put peace lilies outside! What climate are you in?
This may be the most useful video on the internet! Ha ha.
This was crazy!! I didn’t thinking the fern to live for more than a week, but I NEVER thought the Spider Plant or Snake Plant would live for a week, much less a month!! My grandmother had both of those plants & they were always in full sun! I am blown away girls! This is proof of how almost everything will at least try to adapt to rapidly changing situations! Maybe humans should learn from the plants... 🤣!
Rebecca Ude I think they’ll survive for a while, but ZZ and snake will barely grow new leaves without good amount of light. I’m trying to revive those two plants that I had in low light for more than a year.
Sasha Sivolob- I was wondering!! If it was a plant that actually CAME from the rain forest where it was very sheltered, that would be one thing, but the same plant grown from seed in sunny conditions... that’s a big leap to make!!
I was expecting the spider plant to do pretty well. It’s a great plant for the office, because it doesn’t need a ton of light. I have it in my house, in a dark corner. Sometimes the leaves get a bit “dull”, not as vibrant green. That’s a signal it needs more water :-P
Snake plant is a hippie. I have like two in my bedroom which gets no light at all and they are doing great. BTW I water them sometimes when I remember and only a little bit. Before I had one which I use to water once a month and it was too much for the plant. I learned this plant likes to be in the drier side.
This is such perfect timing 👌 I’m looking to spruce up my windowless office at work with some greenery🌱
I just started getting some indoor plants and I'm so glad I saw this! Love the antique mister!! Picking one up!
This is exactly what I needed right now! I want to get a plant for my bathroom with no window/ light. So thanks for the plant games. 😹

Sarah R. Yes, i've been waoting for this screenshotable summary comment! Thank you! 💕
A million thanks. I'm watching from France so I'll translate them.
Omg where did you find that spray pot?
Side note you have the same Faust the hotel I work in has.
You could pretty much search any plant that lives indoors in Canada and be able to toss it in a dark corner.
Ambi's Fresh Start asked myself the same thing, they have it on urban outfitters: its called glass plant Mister
Ambi's Fresh Start it’s also on amazon
I mean I can't be the only one who came here after reading the email ashley showed in her recent video and wondering how she used to edit back then...
YUP
and tbh it MAKES this video
Those sound effects tho 🤣🤣👌👌
They will survive for a time but not thrive too well in such dark conditions, great to see most lasted at least a month though! It is true that these plants are less likely to show stress in such environments. Fittonia was stretching taller looking for light, it has a higher light requirement. Another idea could be testing popular plants and making a point for where faux and real plants are appropriate in decorating? Some decorators use real rosette shaped succulents in dark zones like desks and bathrooms. It would be great to have folks like ya'll spread the word that nooo it will never work out 😂 The fern leaves are likely a watering issue, it is not easy to balance humidity for them 😂
I have low light in my apartment, but my pothos always do well. They do so well I have been able to propagate continuously. My snake plant is a different story. Love to try again, but i hate seeing it die. This video was so much fun! Good job😊❤
The butterfly was over water the fern needs filtered light. The pothos, zz, and spider are die hards.. zz and butterfly may have been getting to much water if it was water left in drain plate that's why yellow tips
I was thinking the butterfly plant was just trying REALLY hard to survive by putting out a new leaf toward the light bulb!
The temperature has plays a roll with the fern Im in Arkansas and my mom always puts ferns in the bsthroom when they start looking like their fern did after a while they perk back up. Idk how she does it!! Lol
I’m surprised too! Because a couple of those plants really dislike humidity and their roots can even rot including the ZZ that has big bulbs that hold water for a long time. They look amazing in your bathroom though! 💙🌱
Okay but the editing here is so damn good. One of Ashley's top 10 edited videos tbh @bestdressed
I literally came here from the email...Oop
This is really helpful! I've got so many rooms that get indirect or no sunlight, and I've been too scared to try many houseplants because I can't handle killing them. This is giving me courage to try some out myself.
I love plants but my bedroom is practically a cave, I've never clicked so fast in my life
First off, really appreciated this video! How do you guys water your plants? How much water do you use and how frequently?
Hahaha I definitely thought you were talking about an amazon product too. Loved this video, my apartment doesn't have much sunlight but now I can still get some plants!
I was just thinking that I need a plant in my low light bedroom but I wasn't sure what to get. But now I know! Thank you ladies!
IVE BEEN THINKING OF DOING THIS!!! Thank you sm Sorry Girls!! LOVE YOU GUYS!!!! Love all the way from Miami fl!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️and smell vision last time was sooo cool!!
Chyanne_R_Gordon Well you care enough to reply to my comment sooooo
I totally needed this video!! I really want a plant in my bathroom but have no window for light! Now I will def try putting a plant in there. 😁
OMG I love you thus is just what I need I love plants 🌱 especially cacti
Yeah a cacti survivor would be awesome to see too!
This is the BEST! Haha! I am in love with plants but live in a small studio with only one window where plants can get sun. I’m all about the Pothos, aloe and angel plants
I really want the new Amazon Canopy 😂
I would have loved to see all the plants repotted before experience. Those they come in are meant to be temporary. A good quality of soil added would have made it a 100 percent success 😀 great experiment. Thanks for doing it !
this made me laugh sm 😂
This is so helpful!!!! Can't wait to deck my bathroom out with plants
bless you my low-sunlight apartment needs a face lift
I am moving to a house with much less sunlight and was bummed because I thought I wouldn't be able to have plants in my living room. I have hope now.🙂🌱❤
Can someone with a background in financial planning please help me budget? TheSorryGirls have forced me to want/buy every cute pot and plant I see.
Please.
Budget- $200/week
Plants- $200/week
Food- $0
Gas- $0
Rent Money- $0
Please is there any way I can fix this I've lived off ramen noodles for 6 weeks and I have 9 new hanging pots (ok this part isnt a joke but HANGING POTS ARE SO CUTE)
You guys are heroes! Trying to figure out what a “low light” plant is is always a challenge! I have many of the plants you have in this challenge in my shaded (by a porch) kitchen window and they grow but long and straggly but alive! Maybe plants are tougher then we give them credit for! I never considered putting plants in my bathroom and now I think I need to give some of these guys a try!
I CLICKED IMMEDIATELY 🔥🔥🔥 LOVE YOU GIRLSSS❤️❤️❤️❤️
SO SMART!!! I have a lot of plants, and I had to test them all to discover which one need the lesser lightening.
BUT you 'd have tested them in a laps time min of 3 months, because leafs stars become smallers after
I LOVE the plant themeeeeee 👏💛🌱
So helpful! TY! My office is windowless; but I’m able to take potted friends home for weekend...
Loooove this, lol!❤️❤️
the dramatic music is life hahaha love you guys!!
OMG!!! I loved this!!! Also where did y’all get yalls pump waterer thingy lol!?😁 does it work good? I’ve considered buying one!
lol... this is freaking hilarious. I was looking for a video to talk about plants that tolerate low light for my middle school class. They are going to love this.
Going to buy all of these rn. Loved the way you filmed this!
I have two big ferns in front of the window in my bathroom. They don't get direct sunlight. They seem to be doing really well but do enjoy a good drink and the steam from the bath which is just underneath them :)
fun fact: ashley bestdressed edited this :)
For Nephytis Butterfly: For leaves that are new and were formed i ample sunlight, they may tend to dry out.
All the new leaves that will grow in low light will survive and keep growing well. I have this plant in like every dark corner of my house and it does extremely well. I just put it in a bottle of water.
Thanks for heads up on Boston Fern :)
That's interesting. I wouldn't want my whole plant to die because of moving to a dark corner, but maybe I should repot some babies and look how they fare. Thanks for the idea!
Probably one of my favorite channels on youtube =) Always cheers me up! im trying to contact them incase they
need music for their youtube! I make music for creators to use in youtube aslong as they credit! Was hoping
we could get them to check the music out and hopefully like it and use it! :D
Could you maybe vote this up so they might check it ? :) Thanks guys! Also if you guys have channels your
free to use it!

Snake plants are indestructible. My mom's neighbor has had the same root bound one for years and he let mom separate all of them. They are just happy to have a home 😂
Love both of you xx❤️❤️
1. I have NEVER committed on a video so I had a create an account. So I loved this video!
2. I'm in nursing working NOC shift 7pm-7am
3. My bedroom is totally dark for sleeping
4. But I want plants/life in my room
5. Thank you for helping a forgotten group of people .... the NIGHT SHIFT🌘
I love how intense this was
ashley's come so far in her editing skills, so proud :-)
Dracaena
Druh-SEEN-uh
The amount of commitment, time, and organization that goes into your videos blows me away! Love them allllllll
Some plants will survive under artificial light. Especially if youre using a CFL globe
I was delighted to see this video, will definitely try to expand my plant repertoire! A tip for pothos plants: when the tendrils start sending out little rootlets, it's a sign that it's looking for soil. Either re-pot it in a bigger pot or split it up into two plants and put them in two pots. Cutting straight down into the mass of roots doesn't seem to bother it, in my experience! I also love pothos because it seems to thrive on neglect. I can't keep to any kind of schedule for watering, but pothos plants can go week after week without being watered - they get kind of sad when they need water, give them some and they perk up with 24 hours, then forget about them until they start to frown again.
I noticed that you sprayed the fern on it’s leaves. The reason they were falling off was because the leaves were literally rotting off-
Yes! I love the Fittonia. I have one on my desk at work (no sunlight, just standard office fluorescents) and it does great! I’ve also had the Nephytis Butterfly at work too, it seems like it gets worse before it gets better, but after a while it starts to grow more!
Thanks for doing this video! I’m running out of sunny spots for plants so I might have to try a few of my own in darker areas!
I love you guys
My mood: Kelsey walking into a room full of plants saying "how's everybody doing?"
And also you're the prettiest girls ever and also I love your eyes 👀
😂I needed this :)fern got way over watered
lmaaaaao plants DO absorb from lightbulbs, standard bulbs will provide a plant with some light, and 'two seconds' of the light being on (using the bathroom) daily is probably enough for them. also, youve been spraying the fern all over its' leaves, which ferns dont always love & that might be why it started dissolving. Just because you're plant novices doent mean you should talk bad about the fern >:C
Can u help me out unfortunately we don't have windows at my house (ikw its sucks n i hate tht) but i love cactus can i keep a cactus in my room although i keep lights on the most of the day , would tht be enough !??
Also can u recommend me a plant tht mmight survive under ths conditions thank u so much n sorry abt my eng
32Koifish actually most ferns do like water being sprayed on then, they need a humid environment to
ahlam 551 Im pretty sure cacti can take it. I would try it out. Aloe plants are great without light and so are succulents.
oreo luva thank u so much i ll try it out as well hopefully it will work
Lemme knw how it went i would really appreciate it 😊
oreo luva Sorry to burst your bubble. Succulents looooove direct sunlight. Some growers I know even put their succulents on roofs. Cactus on the other hand, would survive in indirect sun but it needs to be in a very dry place. Both of them need sunlight unfortunately. Also, aloe is a succulent too.
Very helpful, I don’t get much light in my place. I lost a lot of plants last year so I’m gradually replacing them with low light babies
First yay🌵
I know this was back in 2018 and I just seen this. I loved it, because I have been so curios about what types of plants are durable since I do not have a green thumb. So excited, I am going to purchase some of these. Thank you Sorry Girls :)
#🌴🌱🌿🍃🌵
This is so perfect for me! Our apartment has very little natural light apart from the kitchen and study room so thank you ladies!! x
Am I the only one who actually didn’t like this video? Killing plants is not fun 🙂
I don’t have plants in my bathroom because I thought they would die, but I’m gonna try one of those out now!!!
They're going to kill a living thing for sport
This was great! I think I fail because I forget to water them. But I think if I see them every day I would remember!
Yaas I was waiting for this video because I have a corner in my room where almost no light is. But it is the perfekt spot to put plants.... thank you for this xo
I just bought a snake plant and I'm usually not very good at keeping my plants alive at all, but this is giving me hope that I can keep him going!
