Connected to the things of the world, feeling down and confused. Started to listen to this and was immediately transported into an infinitely more beautiful, real world. Rapturous. Great Art is the ultimate balm for all transitory woes. This is just absolutely breathtakingly rapturous. Exulted and exuberant beyond words. Transcendental beyond words. Thank you, Richard wagner, my immortal soul pays homage to you, eternally

Disturbing, trascendental beauty. Those are the only words I can find to describe my mental state after hearing Waltraud Meier singing this immense monument. I only allow myself this treat from time to time, it leaves me emotionally exhausted.
I was lucky enough to hear her in Madrid as Isolde, I was shattered, what an experience. I remember all people around me were in tears when the curtain fell after act III. Years later it was Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, I think it was even more intense (OMG) when she sung those extended last words: ...ewig... ewig... It was so intense, so beautiful, so unearthly that everyone got a lump in the throat, and wept out of emotion.
    A very unique singer.

i think she's extremely expressive with the language and artistic expression, lovely. i am enjoying that aspect. what i don't enjoy is her tone, almost at all. there are a few times it is pleasing, but that is all. what a shame for such an artist with such expressive capacity to not have found freedom in her tone yet. she is not free or resonating or supported properly. she cuts off the sound with tension and she's flat because the tone lacks support. when she shoves the sound into her nose and keeps her jaw shut, that very nasal sound is not pleasing to the ear. when you want an explosion of full throated tone, there's none, only a disconnected head voice with little exploration of resonance and a tremolo (goat bleetie vibrato) and lots of tension. what a shame. yet she's world famous for her artistry. Pobody's nerfect. I'll listen to other youtubes of her and see if this was just a bad day or a pretty accurate example of what she does.
