    The blows that man has absorbed and kept on moving forward would kill a regular human on the spot.

    Can anybody confirm if Roy Nelson body type really just comes down to genetics. I'm thinking about it, even if he didn't watch his weight control he should still look more ripped to fight with amount of power he has.

    • @atanda1219
      @atanda1219 9 лет назад +11

      He just has poor diet

    • @schpoingle
      @schpoingle 9 лет назад +12

      how he looks is both training/diet and genetics. he could slim down some but you can't control where you lose fat. sit ups don't make your have a flat stomach like the commercials say. If he got his fat percentage to go down to what a regular fighter looks like then he would be probably two weight classes lower maybe more. He wouldn't gain that much speed though. Genetically we all have a pretty much set hand/eye coordination its only going to fluctuate a little bit when weight is taken off. So, he's probably way,way, way to slow to fight at a lower weight class.
      So he's better off in heavy weight where the talent is much lower. It's much lower because there's less large people and so there's less chances of good athletes, much less chances of great athletes and so forth. this is why the best fighters are average human size. it's a little lower because they cut so much weight but you get the idea.
      just to go on rambling...people are born good punchers or they are not. it's in there with hand/eye coordination. BUT!! unlike speed, punching and taking punches is dramatically effected by the weight of the person, no matter where the weight is. if it's on the stomach, if it's fat on the arms..doesn't matter. this is why it's a big deal when guys come in 10 pounds over weight. This is why there is so little weight between weight classes. 5 extra pounds means throwing harder punches and taking harder shots. Yes, again there is some speed sacrifice but it's not as crucial. Again, that's why making weight is so important and why there's so many weight classes. if there was no weight classes many fighters couldn't take the punch of heavier men and the speed differential would only make enough difference. So if big country lost a bunch of weight but still was in heavy weight he would not have as much power and not be able to take as big of a punch. bad news. and he probably can't gain much more muscle mass without taking roids....so he keeps the fat and lives the good life.
      Getting 'ripped', being toned, being able to see muscles, is not about having muscles or being strong, it's about having a very low fat percentage. But it's also hard to get a that fat percentage really low while still maintaining muscle. the body uses muscle for calories before it uses fat. That's why guys get phd's in nutrition and body building and they still argue and change views on what's best.

    • @cutthatcity
      @cutthatcity 9 лет назад +4

      Protoman It's just bad diet. Roy used to be a lot skinnier if you watch some of his older grappling matches. Fighters are ripped because they put the work in and watch their diet. Genetics only comes in to play at determining what weight class you will fight at when you are at your best. If Roy lost weight he'd be an even better fighter. I definitely think Roy will be a name to remember.

      well,I think you're wrong, just look at the fight with Kimbo during TUF. Kimbo was seen as a street fighting banger and what happened ? RN mounted crucifix and punched him until the ref stopped the fight while Kimbo was clueless. Make no mistake about it, tank would of ended up on his back and most likely submited

    Roy Nelson is an awesome fighter and one of my favorites to watch. I am a big fan of him. However, I don't think anyone believes Roy Nelson will be splitting the atom anytime soon. LOL "In other major-league sports you have to be over .500 to be phenomenal, in our sport you have to be in the 90th percentile." Where to begin w/an off base statement like that? Somebody needs to explain to Roy that .500 doesn't literally mean 50%. It's a metric to measure a particular statistic and if a player is over .500, they ARE in the in the 90%+ percentile. Its not like other pro athletes are only in the top 50%. LOL I will agree that fighting at the highest level is the toughest sport in the world, the repercussions for loosing are brutal, it is only you against your opponent, and it is a worldwide sport. But, it doesn't change the fact that every professional athlete competing at the highest level of their particular sport are in the 90% plus percentile.

  • @twstf8905
    @twstf8905 5 лет назад +1

    He's a World class athlete, even with his, "shape," lol but if he didn't have that Right, he'd have to drop some weight to stay within his percentile, because he'd be fighting at the top of the next class down, instead of being such an underachiever.
    If he could get down closer to 200lb or better yet 185lb, he would definitely get more sponsorships instead of just being an anomaly, or, "show," fighter getting lucky against heavyweights, like Butterbean.
