Correction: In the Features segment, I incorrectly show 720p @60fps. The ALUM is actually 1080p @60fps, forgot to update the bullet. My apologies for this mistake.
too late, unsubbed just for that, deservingly so... nah, just kidding, Sir, love your videos, they are just so damn wholesome... thank you and all the best.
Holy moly, just for the pinball experience this machine is worth buying. Hope with all the material and ressource shortage the production won't lag. Seems like, I have a wish for my birthday next year 🥳
After having mine for awhile, I will offer advice for two issues that owners might encounter: If the chrome edges ever come unglued (around the curved edges) scraping and sanding the sticky factory glue carefully and then using Liquid Nails Wood (keeping in place with low tack blue painters tape while it hardens) worked excellent for me. Also, if your Legends Ultimate Mini cabinet wobbles from side to side when playing, add two more wood screws aligned with the top screw of back panel "G" (one on each side) again making sure they are at the same height. Hope this helps someone.
Thank you Dude! Yes, this is a very unique and innovative design. I've never seen this capability in any commercially available arcade machines. Thank you for watching!
As always very well done and informative. I would also agree that for the price a trackball should be included. @WagnersTechTalk did you have a chance to see if the PCB is the same as the ALU and if so does it have a trackball connector? Adding a trackball would be straight forward if so.
Thank you John, I appreciate your kind comments and for watching. It looks like the same internals as the ALU. I added an image that I took while filming (but didn't use in the video), it's on the guide and can be found here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alum/#Inside_View
@@WagnersTechTalk thanks for the quick reply. Now that I think about it the trackball connector would be on the PCB inside the control deck. Adding a USB trackball would probably be easier provided it is supported.
I just ordered one from Sams Club this week, they had all of them on sale for 199 ALU mini, 349 ALU and 399 Pinball. I got the ALU and the ALU mini for pinball purposes, great deals if anyone was able to take advantage of the sale. ALU mini is still available for shipping, others are sold out.
Can you check something for me? Can you check the controls on your ALU Mini, during the test my Player 1 Button registers on the let off of the button. I am not sure if this is normal operation or the button is wired backwards. My ALU's the Player 2 buttons act this way, while player 1 you can hold the button down and it shows the button press lit continuously.
On my machine, went into Health Check and the button indicates pressed (highlighted) as it's held down and released (not highlighted) when I let of the button. Also, on the ALU when you press and hold the P2 button for about 7ish seconds it goes into BT pairing mode. The same is true on the Mini, though with the P1 button instead. Hope this helps answer your question. Sorry it took me a few days to get back to you.
The machine can be updated by connecting to a network (LAN or Wifi), shouldn't be a need to manually download/install the firmware. But, if so, you can reach out to AtGames for your specific reason for wanting to. I don't have links for them myself.
The Legends Gamer Pro won't fit on the Ultimate Mini, I don't think. I don't have the Gamer Pro myself so can't be 100% sure. IMO - if it's two-player controls you want, might want to consider the Legends Ultimate. More info. and videos may be found here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alu/
great review Wagner. I think they could've included a spinner and a trackball in the dead space on that control deck, although the wiring underneath may have prevented one or the other from being feasible. I don't think this will sell well when for $100 more you get 2 players and the spinners and trackballs. They need to revise the horizontal and vertical rotation as it seems like they could've just implemented push-pin latches to lock in and release more quickly. I would also wonder of the longevity on the (acrylic I'm guessing) esp. if being handled by hasty kids who wanna play a vertical shooter.
Thank you, much appreciated! I think if they moved the stick a little to the left and the buttons to the right a couple of inches, a trackball could fit in the middle. Even if the trackball assembly had to be made slightly smaller than the ALU it would be worth it (IMO). But as an add-on for the ALUM, not sure if that would make sense as the cost of the ALUM+new control panel would likely be equal (or close) to the price of the ALU. It would have to be included with the machine at the current price. Most spinner games can be played with a trackball, so just having that wouldn't be too much of a compromise. The bezel does appear to be acrylic, I suppose it could see some wear and tear over the years. However, I didn't find anything too concerning myself.
Yes, it has been fixed. I added this statement to the Troubleshooting section of the ALUM guide (here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alum/ ) Using CoinOpsX, the up/down on the Joystick won’t work -This issue has been corrected in firmware v5.64.1. Please update to a recent firmware release to correct the problem.
720p? Really? I thought it was supposed to be 1080p. Can the screen orientation be rotated manually for OTG like the ALP? Does up and down work in AddOnX in vertical mode? Would love to know if this could me modded to add a GRS spinner via USB assuming the firmware supports it.
Great question, in the current firmware there is not a manual screen rotation (like there is on the Gamer Mini). The video does mention the up/down does not work with AddOnX/COX (in the middle and in the outro) while in vertical mode. It's also noted on the guide here: wagnerstechtalk.com/alum/#CoinOpsX .
In the video, it does appear to be a very slight delay. To make sure I didn't miss it, double-checked it on the machine itself and couldn't pick up anything noticeable there. Sounds were instant.
As of 2023, the Legends Ultimate is $175 more than the Mini, because there's almost NO chance you'll find the Legends Ultimate in a Sam's Club, and AtGames sells for significantly more on their site ($600 vs $450) and charges $100 shipping for the Ultimate, and $75 for the Mini. $175 is a lot for the additional stick, buttons, trackball, and spinners (maybe a $40 value) and a bigger screen (which would be maybe $30 more than an 18" screen in the real world). Especially when you consider there's still a chance that AtGames (or maybe even a third party) will make a deck for the Mini with all those controls some day. I do wish AtGames would get more of these in stores (and in more stores. I'd jump on the Legends Ultimate if I didn't have to pay shipping, even if it were the regular price instead of the Sam's Club discount price) but as it stands, even though $100 is justified for shipping such a large and heavy cabinet kit, it's still a lot to throw on top of the already-high $599.99 they ask for the Ultimate. For $700+tax you could build a pretty nice cabinet yourself.
Good assessment. The reason why the ALU's are difficult to find at Sam's Club is due to some extreme sales during the holidays. Some were finding them up for $2-400, which was crazy. The Ultimate Mini is a great machine, especially if you have little room. The lack of a trackball, for me, was a big deal. With the display in vertical mode, it would have been perfect for games like Millipede, Centipede, among several others. Keep an eye on NOD (National Owner's Day) which should be towards the later part of this month. I don't know the prices yet, but typically they're around the 30-40% off range during that time.
I incorrectly stated it's 720p @60fps, the ALUM display is 1080p @60fps. I added the correction to the video description sometime ago but it's easily missed.
Nobody mad about Nintendo offering 720p offerings on their Switch console. Most arcade games that you remember playing pre 2005 were non HD, even the Dreamcast ran at 640 x 480. So no one is missing an HD graphics, even if it was a non HD screen. I wonder how this would do with that company that made hd cables that reduced jagged edges in games? I forgot I had one of those cables for up to 1080p, Marseille makes them. Will have to try them out when I finally connect mine up to a PC or get one of those console x devices.
Ugly cabinet design, was hoping ATgames would get away from the look of the ALU. Oh well, maybe next time. You can really see just how much better a cabinet like the Star Wars looks in comparison, perfect example to prove my point.
Check out PDubs video on the Ultimate Mini, he made a video on the ALUM Tetris edition. Although, it was a limited production that you could only get on NOD in Feb.
@@WagnersTechTalk I am not referring to the art work, my criticism is more towards the shape of the cabinet. Would like to have seen them make an effort to include a proper aspect monitor too.
