I love the overall "wall-of-noise"-like sound of this track. I think I heard someone refer to it as "transcendental" and weirdly enough, I think that fits it perfectly.
it's massive sounding like a glacier slowly moving, beautiful in that way. somehow the song despite not really being ''slow'' sounds like it is just gliding slowly along.

Shoegaze! It's an entire subgenre and a huge rabbit hole. Check out Nothing, Whirr, and Deafheaven's latest album.

Deftones is a big inspiration to me. Full of love to the group and their fans from France.
What I love the most about Stephen's playing is it serves the song first and foremost. Even the songs that are more guitar centric, there's restraint in his playing and no unnecessary flashy guitar stuff.
Long comment. But it's something I want to say because I may never be able to meet the band to thank them.
2016 I was feeling very suicidal. I went through a very bad year that year. Buried multiple relatives, went through a massive heartbreak with someone I was with for seven years, almost lost my little sister to a self inflicted OD.
I found this song and it saved me.
Then again in 2019. I had a horrible 2018 that led up to 2019. Felt suicidal again. Then found out my fiance and I were having our first child.
Her birth saved my life. And because of that, we agreed to name her Minerva Adalais Roberts.
Thank you, Deftones. For saving my life.
All of that within the span of a week
Chino has so many excellent guitar parts on self titled and koi - they fit so well together but sometimes go unnoticed with how sick Stef's riffs are. This one might be my favourite work from Chino. I'd kill for one of those 7 or strings!
I seem i remember that on this song, Stef plays in this 7 string G# tuning, down 1 and a half steps or whatever, and Chino actually plays a 6 string in drop C#. Always thought it was cool how they do that on some of their stuff and play parts that contrast yet compliment each other

I was sleep deprived and high so what I had wrote was not easy to put into words when my mind is overloaded with thoughts with can't translate into words fast or relevant enough. Basically I was trying to explain this concept that recently has come to perspective to me. I'm in the process of perceveing it so u till I fully grasp it

Saw Deftones in 97 in Phoenix AZ when i was 17. My first rock show. Seen them 9 times. No one sounds like the Deftones. The energy from that show is burned into my soul.

I love Deftones and they have so so many great songs. Like almost all of their songs are just incredible. But MINERVA is probably my favorite song from them. I can never get tired of listening to it.
As much as I've been loving these videos and enjoy seeing the fretting, strumming etc, doesn't it seem like the guitar audio is from the original recordings and not from Stef's actual play throughs?

This song came out around the time I graduated high school. I haven’t heard from a lot of the people I spent so many years with since then. Interesting way of summing up and reflecting on those days.
