Thanks a lot of the comment! Yeah, it tends to fly a bit under the radar as it's a very niche application and not exactly cheap

I got it 15 years ago, and it works perfectly with my Godin Grand Concert. Its sounds are very real to this day, and when I play live, it's perfect. The only downside is that it's made of plastic, great review, thanks !

Very good review! Can you change the banks by footswitch or only by turning the BANK dial knob manually?

Yes, you can change banks either by footswitch in the GR itself or in the manual controller of the GK pickup

Hello! I've just bought this unit (I already have the vg99 and gr55 but I needed something more portable), is it me or the GR20 doesn't have any pure guitar patch? there are a lot of bass, strings, synth... but no distortion/acoustic/lead solo sound, I guess I'll have to buy another gp10 to have that! (yeah, I have a gp10 too but it's not working as it should)

Thanks for the comment and sorry for my late reply. The GR-20 does have a full patch category called BASS/GTR with patches for bass and electric and acoustic guitars (patches 30 to 46). However, these re-create the sound of those instruments using the GK pickup and MIDI and they sound like MIDI. It might be cool to use those sounds for some alternative applications, but they will sound and feel radically different from a real guitar through a real amp or even through modern amp modelers...

@@TheBedroomRocker1 Thank you very much! As soon as I realized this I gave, for free, the GR to a friend of mine :)
      Keep Rockin'!

Hey, thanks for the comment and sorry for my late reply.
      1) Power it off
      2) Hold down the Write button while powering it on again
      3) Use the number/value knob to select the range of data to reset. For a complete reset, select "All"
      4) Press the Write button
You can still find the manuals available from Roland's website. That's the same for all of their discontinued products. Seriously, what an amazing company that thinks of its customers!

That something I've considered many times to be honest 😅 I really don't use it often enough but every time I play it I remember why I keep it. It really does something very unique, brings new inspiration, and takes me to places I wouldn't normally go as a guitarist. The new ones seem amazing but are also quite expensive, but you may have luck finding a used GR20 or GR55 on the used market 😉
