I have been playing guitar for 30 years and this guy is one of the few that has inspired me recently. His attitude, demeanor and persona seems totally honest and unpretentious. Thanks for the boost, I surely needed it!!!
The blending of the guitar with the effected sound using a volume pedal for the effect volume is exactly what Steve Morse has been doing for the last 45 years.
@davesabog No The GK3 transmits the information to the GR20 which processes the synth. sounds. The magnetic p/u's mean you can also play the guitar as a "normal" guitar either separately or combined with the synth.
@shelyl You either need a GK3(GK2/A) or a midi guitar with a 13 pin to interface with the GR-20.The pickup itself makes no difference in the tones/patches available, but with the GK-3 you can put the switch in the middle position, and blend the GR-55 with your guitar's normal sound.Hope this helps!
@CRBaustintx You have to buy the Pickup. Its called the Roland GK-3 which you just stick to the guitar or you can Buy the Roland GK Kit which perm is in your guitar and you have to do lots of wireing and stuff.
@AllBluesCat It would sound exactly the same because the sounds are being transmitted via the built in Roland GK p/u,not by the guitar's magnetic p/u's.
LuGMZth you don't need a normal pedal board also, you can just use the GR20 on it's own, the guitar out port on the GR20 is only needed if you want to use normal guitar and can be plugged into a normal pedal board OR amp, notice on the video he didn't have the normal pedal board even connected until 3:55
@davesabog It is quite confusing.Alex is playing a Brian Moore iguitar which has a built in GK3(to be accurate it's not strictly a GK3 but a hex p/u which works in exactly the same way) but it's hidden so you can't see it! There are also other brands which have a similar set up-Godin and Carvin come to mind. The GK cable is able to carry the signal from both the hex p/u for the synth sounds AND the magnetic pickups so you don't need a separate cable for the "standard" guitar sound.Clever eh?
@exile28foo it's because is a guitar designed to support midi stuff. for the regular guitars you'd need the pickup. probably comes from a video to advertise the pedalboard only?
@PauloDJ2 you need a 13 pin cable..there is so much info being sent that 13 pin is needed..sucks because you can get a wireless midi set up but not for 13 pin cables.. not sure what you mean by the 2nd question..
no worries dude i have no problems with it, ive also used my friends VG-99 and he uses that with a GK-3 so i know alittle about that. My Gr-20 has been ordered today and Roland are really good with thier deliveries i hear, but yeah hope all is well
Listening to Alex compared to others he makes it sound fantastic. Now I don't know if it's the amp or just the fact he is a better guitarist. The best way to use most effects like this are through a monitor. Like a Roland, or Peavey. But if you watch some other video's his is the cleanest sounding. Also could it be that his guitar has the pickup installed and not outside? I would really like to know. I wrote him but no reply yet. That's OK But it's an older model and hard to find to try.
i watched this demo and went out and going to buy one of these this week....just wish there was alittle more on the GK-3 divided Pick up in this. but still a great review also wish there was abit more on the pedalboards section and if it can be attached to any pedal board or just boss/roland products.
You can choose to use the loop back, so that the external pedal goes back in to the gr or if you plug it in another amp or so. At least this is so with the gr-33
I had one, it was pretty cool. Some sounds track better than others, they all sound great though. It made me want more sounds and more polyphony, so I ended up focusing on keyboards and using VSTs... Still if you want to stick with guitar the GR20 is great value.
@kingstumble Thanks man. But I'm still confused, what he has here is just the GK cable or something? I couldn't see the GK-3 or a special pickup installed.
Your guitar seems to track the roland really well. I have just borrowed one before I buy but I'm using the GK3 which does not track aswell. What guitar are you using or midi pickup? Sounds great though.
im buying mine for £360 from my local music shop, its just for convieniance but as roland have upped thier price by 10% its hard to get it for a decent price these days inclding the GK-3
Spectorman09 - The GR-33 is discontinued. The GR-20 came out and probably killed the sales of the hard to operate GR-33. Roland is now saying that the GR-20 has replaced the GR-33. The GR-20 has all the same patches as the GR-33 but is LOTS easier to operate especially live. Big Ron
2 questions.... 1. Can you use the GR-20 with a normal cable instead of a 13-pin? 2. Can you use the guitar alone and then change to the GR-20 effects without another pedal or a GK-3? PD: MAN, YOU'RE AWESOME!!!!!!!! :D
hello, I'm from BRAZIL, I'm using a translator to be able to leave a comment sorry some text error ok, I watched your video I felt very good congratulations to continue to post videos, beautiful guitar hugs.
is it work with a bottleneck for make slide bar sound with synth lead ? i really need to know. because an EWI wind controler is cool to for have natural playing feel of a lead sound, but if i could make that with my electric guitar i could be cool !!!
Oh yeh one more question where are you buying it from and how much are you guying it for, the cheapest ive seen it for is about £270 i saw it on ebay with the pick up for £150 and im dumb for not getting that :(
I absolutley want one. 1st: how much do they cost? 2nd: does it work with an acoustic electric guitar. and 3rd: was that 9 Crimes by Damien Rice you played on the piano setting?
can it plug in to a regular pedal board (stomp boxes) and still function correctly, and can i use my regular amp settings or is it like a multi effects pedal? Some one answere. Plz and thank u
hey can some one help me .. i was wondering about buy a guitar syntetixer and i aimmed the gr20 but the lattest gr55 just came out.. i know that gr55 have guitarra effects ass well but i allreaddy have the gt 10.. so the question is .. is the gt 10 and gr20 combo the same like a gr 55 or is it better to buy the gr 55 anyway'? please someone helpme

Dude... PLZ tell me what its like when you buy it, i sooo want one im guna buy one probly nxt month or somthing so plz tell me and is it alrite if i ask u a bunch of questions?!?!
I have GR-20 connected to a Godin Multiac SA with a 13 pin cable and a standard 1/4 cable going out to an amp. I hear the guitar through the amp but not the synthesizer Any suggestions?
It's all very well to say "just buy a synth" Mr.Poserexposer but what about guitar players like me who are useless on keyboards, but would like to add a few extra sounds to our recordings? This is meant for us.
Come back to this video from time to time almost on 10 years. Because of Alex charisma and skills. Awesome stuff!
Alex just knows all those songs for a specific instrument, he is a master of his craft and hilarious

love the rang of tunes this guy has, not just the pedal.
446 happy guitarists, 7 fired keyboardists
underrated comment lol
Its beautiful work done by Alex Hutchings

yes, the Roland GK3 will fit to most guitars, thats how it can pick up each strings information individually
I love the way the blending sounds!
@AllBluesCat It would sound exactly the same because the sounds are being transmitted via the built in Roland GK p/u,not by the guitar's magnetic p/u's.
looks like it, looks and sounds amazing too. this guy really is good at these reviews.
a real credit to Nevada Music

Im sold, great demo really shows what this device is capable of.
Oh really? That's a better relief on me because I was thinking about purchasing one sometime in the very near future, thanks.
The guitar is a Brian Moore iGuitar - made in the USA
the synth pickup is inside the guitar - like Godin or Carvin synth access guitars
The best demo in YT. Perfect!!!
@SuperRockingMrMagic GR-20 has midi output so you can hook that up to your computer via Midi-to-USB connection, and then control FL Studio with it.
yeah it can go inline with your other effects there are jacks labeled mix in for that

Thanks Alex - it was all going really top draw until the Yank started in.
Your piece = EXCELLENT. Thank You.
Oh, that is cool ! Looks like they've solved the tracking problems they used to have. Nice demo, man.
no worries dude i have no problems with it, ive also used my friends VG-99 and he uses that with a GK-3 so i know alittle about that.
My Gr-20 has been ordered today and Roland are really good with thier deliveries i hear, but yeah hope all is well
I myself wouldn't know how to make the best using it, but this pedal is simply awesome!
Listening to Alex compared to others he makes it sound fantastic. Now I don't know if it's the amp or just the fact he is a better guitarist. That's great, but does it have vuvuzela?
Awesome! I never thought this were possible. If you get a "looper", then this would rock. But look like a great pedal. Perhaps an investment ;)
i watched this demo and went out and going to buy one of these this week....just wish there was alittle more on the GK-3 divided Pick up in this.
but still a great review

OMFG!! Im getting one! Gona be fun as hell with my Boss loopstation.
with this guitar synth, I will never need another bandmate ever again1
Very good demonstrator,ND
nice thanks for giving these demo
nice man.... i like i a lot
and you rock with that little synth
@CRBaustintx I just found out that the GR-20 comes with thee Pickup in the box i think.
You need to have a hex pickup. These can be add-on units that you can buy. The rotary speaker sound simulations are included.
You can choose to use the loop back, so that the external pedal goes back in to the gr or if you plug it in another amp or so.
At least this is so with the gr-33
best roland gr-20 review on youtube..........trust me
hey, what is that awesome tune played before the commentry say's 'organs' and the blonde dude shreds? stunning..
I had one, it was pretty cool. Some sounds track better than others, they all sound great though. It made me want more sounds and more polyphony, so I ended up focusing on keyboards and using VSTs... Still if you want to stick with guitar the GR20 is great value.
I have GOT to get me one of these.
Awesome video 👍👍 bravo. Guys can I use the GK pickup with i.e korg m3 or similar
Love the synths!
Loved the piano
no, you have to place another pickup near the bridge which you get with it
@Bowtie41 Thank you, have been very helpful. By the way, nice online shop you have!!!
@kingstumble
Thanks man. But I'm still confused, what he has here is just the GK cable or something? I couldn't see the GK-3 or a special pickup installed.
Its a real pleasure to watch this video :-)
I love it.
HOLY SHIT! THIS IS AMAZING!

those Synth sounds are amazing :O

@94Alexcarney thanks
that Brian Moore guitar looks awesome!
ive heard theres a delay time with guitar synths like if u hit a note it takes half a second for it to come out is that right?
@themedicinemanftw
you need some sort of midi pickup..if you have a midi guitar it will work..
This guy is awesome.
Dankeschöööön für die super Demo! BG aus Gö. in D.
you could change either from the synth with your feet or the guitar
this guy is really great
Cheers mikvee, how are you getting on now you've got your GR20?
amazing - I need to get one of these, fast!
@6project6nightmare6 I think it is a Brian Moore :)
Alex rocks!
is it work with a bottleneck for make slide bar sound with synth lead ?
i really need to know.
because an EWI wind controler is cool to for have natural playing feel of a lead sound, but if i could make that with my electric guitar i could be cool !!!

What's the name of the song he plays at 1:00 ? Right after the stevie wonder song. i feel dumb for asking, but can't remember for the life of me.
Mad guitar playing.
Man, you're so great!
I love this guy
I absolutley want one. 1st: how much do they cost? 2nd: does it work with an acoustic electric guitar. and 3rd: was that 9 Crimes by Damien Rice you played on the piano setting?

Plz and thank u
hey can some one help me .. i was wondering about buy a guitar syntetixer and i aimmed the gr20 but the lattest gr55 just came out.. i know that gr55 have guitarra effects ass well but i allreaddy have the gt 10.. so the question is .. is the gt 10 and gr20 combo the same like a gr 55 or is it better to buy the gr 55 anyway'? please someone helpme
are you actually using a gk 3 pick up?
because you tracking is a lot better than mine!
I have the same guitar. I have yet to get a synth box for it though.
You can get that sitar soung only with GR20 or you need something extra??
more cowbell!
no, seriously I have one of these and its super fun...
i love the sound,, can i use my midi keyboard with this to use its sounds? thanks
@Vermillion2176 hey can some one help me .. i was wondering about buy a guitar syntetixer and i aimmed the gr20 but the lattest gr55 just came out.. i know that gr55 have guitarra effects ass well but i allreaddy have the gt 10.. so the question is .. is the gt 10 and gr20 combo the same like a gr 55 or is it better to buy the gr 55 anyway'? please someone helpme
they still go for really good money on ebay should i get this 1 or buy the new gr55
If you have a godin or other guitar that has a midi out then no, if you have a regular guitar without built in midi then yes, and it can be a real pain in the ass to install especially on my floyd rose strat.
love d faces he makes!!
I don't see a gk-3 pickup on the guitar. Does that still use a separate pickup device?
what song did he play on the baritone sax and the horn section??
I hear the guitar through the amp but not the synthesizer Any suggestions?
do you guys know the name of that song that Robert Marcello is playing? 5:46
after about a month of using mine with the gk3 I invested in a godin synth access guitar the tracking is so much better than that with the gk3
This is an innovation! I can see it now, the guitar orchestra... I want one already!
XD
ok, has he got a band or has he made any solo records or something?
What would be the difference between using the GR 20 with or without the GK3?
Tx
isn't it the new G-55 that costs that much? i don't think the g-20 is made any longer but you can buy it cheap on ebay... if you live in the US...
@Ravenhunt
Some guitars come built with a G3 pickup. Check out our page!
It's all very well to say "just buy a synth" Mr.Poserexposer but what about guitar players like me who are useless on keyboards, but would like to add a few extra sounds to our recordings?
