Me and a friend just took out the blower on my Volvo XC60 today still waiting on the replacement to get here Monday. This is a great video it really helped a lot. But here are some new things that we learned today. A $20 endoscope off Amazon that connects to your phone is well worth it and a lifesaver. We were able to find the clip through the scope and then I was able to guide my friend's hand over the blower motor from the passenger side and he was able to release the motor from the passenger side and take it out. So we were actually able to do this without sticking a bar or a screwdriver anything through the driver side. And in theory if you know where the clip is or you can find it by hand you wouldn't even have to take the cluster out of the driver's side. And on another note the reason my family went out to come to find out is somehow a mouse got into the blower fan got caught in the motor got itself killed and burned the motor up by jamming it

Dude! This helped me a lot and did it by myself.
I did pick up a piece of metal from home Depot to stick in there and actually ended up breaking the clamp on the motor thank God it wasn't on the vehicle itself which made it actually very easy to get it out at that point. took me 3 hours can't thank you enough bro!!!

Great video(s) Some tips: make sure to get either a motor from the dealer or as shown the Swedish video an "aftermarket" motor which is actually an original Volvo motor(you've been warned!), others maybe noisy or require the screw to lock it in place. Carpet and seat removal may facilitate but are not necessary: can be done without the special tool IF the motor is no good, using wire cutters cut the all the arms/fingers of the fan blade as close to the center as possible, using a seat belt style oil filter tool and ratchet wrap around motors center and remove in same manner as Volvo tool...to reinstall...with someone holding the motor in place use the bar now to push the motor near the lock to reengage it. The vent duct behind the instrument cluster is very flexible, you can use something(like a 21mm socket :)) to spread the opening for a better view of the lock while passing bar underneath the duct. A mechanics pry bar (30in ish) will work in place of the bar. Hope this helps you if your stuck....

Matheus - first off THANK YOU SO MUCH for actually putting the time in to make this video. Obviously there are a few thousand people here that are interested ;-) VERY super duper awesome that you are helping others, and your thoughtfulness is so appreciated. That being said, I spend literally 7 hours trying to get this thing taken out (it's still in there) - and that is with using a scope as well to get over the vent and in to see exactly where the latch is. But there is a gap in the video which is the most important part. I'm a super handy guy and take apart tons of car stuff, so you are not dealing with a noob here - I even have the endoscope ;-) Latch was disengaged - but the fan motor WOULD NOT turn counterclockwise... to the point where I was afraid I would bend the removal tool splines. There is something keeping the motor in there. Shop diagrams show there is a screw only accessible from the other side (which you can remove if you have an XC70 of course not ours) to hold it in place but camera showed empty hole (if I got the right one) so may not be that. Also even if it did get removed, is there enough slack on the electrical connector to the motor to pull it through and disengage? Both those parts are what is missing from your video, and what would definitely help fill in the blanks. Unlike the other P3 series Volvos without that easy access there are too many unknowns and difficulties accessing. The car is sitting in the driveway as I type, and next step is I go to my mechanic and he uses a hole saw to cut through and then resilicone - which is his method for doing this ;-) Again - appreciate any feedback because I'm gonna drive dashless and in pieces back to his place tomorrow ;-)

Sounds to me like you haven't released the clip. You're right that in this model, the screw isn't there. And the electrical connector was trivial for me to disconnect, like I don't even remember doing it because it was so easy. With your endoscope, can you find the clip from the driver's side dash? It really takes two people to undo the clip...
I'm a noob, and managed to get it somehow! Frankly I'm not sure how cutting through anything would help! You can do it!
Search my name on Facebook and send me a message. Happy to videochat you through it

@@mfalasa Yup went through the dash with the camera - beside where you slid the bar - tried two different bars to release it as well :-( I could see the clip releasing but it would not turn out. I can see the clip moving but then it won't turn past it :-( Might give it one more go before then...

    • @mfalasa
      @mfalasa  3 года назад

@@MrRichardRolando you just have to shove the bar under the clip far enough and it will release, then you can swing around and undo the motor with the tool. No other manipulation of the clip necessary!

At first it didn't work for me, I was about to give up and cut a hole in the firewall but then I tried different width flat stocks. Thinner width worked also I did by myself not being able to feel where the tab was. I basically followed the same angle and listened for a click then wedged it in harder took 2 times because it unwedged while figuring out the blower tool.

I successfully took the 2012 XC60 blower motor out! It wouldn't have been possible without the videos from you, Yuri and Richard! Thanks again!
    Some points:
I was able to reach the latch using a rod going below the duct you are showing. I couldn't reach it from above (an inch above the latch was the closest I could get).
I attached a borescope to a steel rod. Borescope was recessed couple of inches (we don't want the camera to be used for wedging). Made the job very easy.
After unlatching I used the window under the cowl cover to detach the connector (very easily accessible). This window came in handy for attaching the tool too! Watch this video for removing the cowl cover (very easy; no need to remove the wiper motor, just the cover will do): ruclips.net/video/SCMnXccp3oA/видео.html
I filled the foot well with foam and put a cardboard piece on top to keep them in place. That made it level with the "cross-member hump". Worked out great! I could lie down comfortably for a long time with this setup.
I removed the CEM bracket too which made removing the cage / fan very very easy. Since I am vertically challenged (5'6") I could see all the screws used with the cage! So, it was very easy removing those screws!

Unfortunately this doesn't work with the 2010 Volvo S80. They just don't have the same firewall height as the XC series so not enough room. Everything else up to the point of accessing the vent cage is similar.

Hi Matheus, I have a 2010 Volvo XC60. There is no airflow whatsoever coming from my vents, but if I'm driving it's extremely weak (likely due to the engine fan passing air through). Wondering if this is more likely a blower motor control module/resistor failure or an actual blower motor failure? Is this something that a scan on the system could diagnose? Took it to my mechanic and he didn't want to touch it, but also didn't provide the codes to diagnose. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!
