In this video I repair and refurbish an oak dresser found dumped on the side of a road. I worked hard to give it a new look and a second chance in the world. I used a technique called cerusing to create texture and depth to the piece.

Fantastic transformation. That effect you got for the top and draw fronts is stunning.

I'm truly amazed that furniture is just left dumped outside. I've never seen furniture tossed out like that. People here must dispose of unwanted furniture properly or maybe they hang on to things.

People throw things out like this because they don't know what to do with it and to them it looks like junk. You have the skills to refurb it so as you said, your win, their loss.

Полностью изменился облик этого комода. Два цвета освежили и осовременили. Мне новая фурнитура показалоась намного уместней, чем старая. Зря вы о ней сожалели. И пожалуйста, берегите свои руки - вы часто работаете без защитных перчаток.

You could have used wood putty to fill the holes. It makes a more sturdy base to drill into. Good job though.

Hello again!!! You taught me something new today. I have never heard of "cerusing", but now that I've seen it, it really is beautiful!!. As always, you did a wonderful job on this restoration. The end result was just the beginning for this dresser, and it will live on for a very long time. Thank you for what you do so beautifully! Always great to see the boys. They sure love the beach! We have not had beach weather here in a very long time. It was bitterly cold with lots of snow and ice, with gusty winds. Brrrrr!! It has warmed up now, and the snow and ice have melted. Winter is not over here, but I'm thankful for the reprieve. Still no sign of my cat. If she was outside, there is no way she could have survived the brutal cold, and snow. Still hoping for a miracle, but my hopes are fading fast. Take care, and give the boys a hug for me. Hugs to you, too!!

Hello Karen, hope you’re well. Thanks for watching. I’m happy that you learned about cerusing. I just love the texture it creates.
We’ve had some awful storms here and 100mph winds. I am ready for spring to arrive so I can work outside more.
So sorry you haven’t seen Fluffy. Cats are survivors so I’m sure you’ll get your miracle.
Hugs from me and the boys ❤️

I love this little solid oak dresser. I'm grateful you rescued it and gave new life to it, but I'm not really a fan of the technique you used or the liming wax. Kudos to you for all your work though. ❤

I think this is my favorite piece yet. It is genuinlu stunning. I do have a question. I grew up in Southern California very close to the beach. I miss it so terribly. How is it that you are kucky enough to have that bug expanse of beach al.oat to yourself with your dogs? I am officially jealous, lol. Love your work so much.

    • @McCluskeyRestorations

It’s just a small beach called Seaton Carew so it’s always pretty quiet apart from other dog owners. I do love it. It’s certainly my happy place and nobody can say the word “beach” in front of of my boys, they literally jump all over you 😂 oh Southern California sounds like an absolute dream.
      Thank you for watching ❤️

Thank you for sharing. Making your own shellac is new to me. I’ve never seen shellac chips before, do you buy them? To censure, I’ve used a white paint wash ribbing it WITH the grain and the second coat AGAINST the grain. Thanks for sharing.

Yes I bought mine from Amazon. These are the blonde flakes. You mix them with denatured alcohol.
I’m going to attempt to make my own wax too at some point. 🙌
