STILL the BEST uke review site on youtube!
Thanks very much!!

By a country mile!
For sure !!!
This is off topic but I was scrolling through your insta feed and as a portrait photographer myself I've gotta say you've got a great eye for taking photos. Your B&W work is especially captivating - I love the composition and heavy contrast of those shots. Real works of art. You've got the knack for revealing the extraordinary in what otherwise might be dismissed as mundane. Cheers!
That's very kind of you - thanks - I need to get out more with the cameras - last year I was doing a 365 thing (picture a day) which got me out, but by the end it was becoming a chore! Seem to have gone the other way lately, but it's also really cold at the moment. More to come I hope!
(Adore B&W images the most!)
Thanks for the review. I was wondering about these. Agree on the pick guard. But would like a tortoise shell pattern.
That would work with black for sure
Thanks for going on and on with the comparisons. Those of us with limited or nonexistent budgets need more insights on choosing among "value" instruments. BTW, I hope Flight replace that "shocking blue" pick guard with one in, e.g., slate gray or even a quiet olive drab. QC issues at such a well-known maker and distributor... also shocking!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks!
Thanks so much Steve!
Such a nice shirt
One of my faves!
I've liked the AnueNue since you reviewed it, and I still do. All things being equal I prefer the Flight tone, but not its finishing flaws. A good review and comparison of two captivating instrumemts.
Thanks Joe!
Just having a brew and your review popped up. Perfect. Have an AnueNue concert and really love it for its colour, Almond milk for me, and for the money and sound I find I play it a lot and was purchased after your review, from a reputable UK dealer. I am quite taken by the black of the Flight Iris and don’t really mind the colour of the pick guard, although it is the celluloid effect that is a bit challenging. Bet the distributor wishes they had had a good check first before putting it for review 🙃. Positive spin for specialist shops as am sure if it came from them it would have been on the money. The money for this instrument is a really fair price and like I thought about the AnueNue, it makes for a great intro instrument for someone who may stay with the brand. Well done Flight for a great instrument, but staying true to their brand, they should have stayed with their bridge shape. Thanks Baz for another great review and have a great rest of the weekend.👌
Don't disagree with any of that. I'm staggered the distributor sent it to me like this!
@@GotAUkulele I suppose that’s what makes us human. Must admit as I myself get older I miss all sorts. Sure he won’t do it again. But Flight QC have some culpability also. Bet Mr and Mrs Flight will ensure all are correct going forward so may be a plus point.
@@GotAUkulele I’m flummoxed that Flight sent it to the distributor like that!
Thanks
Thanks so much!
Thanks for all you do in our ukulele community! I liked the sound better in the Flight, definitely warmer. Although a matter of preference, I do like the slotted headstock , I think it adds to the aesthetic, and it needs it the pick guard color does not match well with the black. Have a good week!
Thanks Denise!
I like it, a Flight of fancy 😁 will have to look at the blue one. Great price too 👍
Very good price - i do like the other colours too.
Soundwise I liked both the Anuenue (a more delicate brighter and overall shiny-er tone) and the Flight (a more mid rangy kind of focused tone, capturing some soprano kind of high end bark).
Thanks for bringing out those great reviews having become the major institution I think.
Jan
My pleasure. Thanks Jan
I agree Baz that blue pick guard doesn’t work on a black top red tortoiseshell wouldn’t look too bad.
As always a great review Baz 👏
Thanks Bob!
I guess some will ditch this uke because the blue picguard, but I really love it. Slotted head rise the score in my eyes. Thanks for a wery nice review. Seeing your vids, is like celebrate christmas, every week. ❤️
You're very welcome!
I agree. Love when I see there is another review coming ! So hard to decide on my next ukulele There are so many amazing ones and it helps to see the reviews !!!
I was just thinking I'd like the red with the blue pickguard, before you said you'd like a white one on the black (grin).
The blue is just.. well… very… BLUE!
I really appreciate your help. My VTAB EL-55D arrived on Friday and I am now practising learning chords. I have mastered C and F (I think) but am having a little difficulty with G7. I am persevering and am hoping that it will come quickly. Any advice on exercises to keep my fingers supple would be appreciated. Thanks again.
It really is just practice. There are chords I thought impossible many years ago - but practice flexes the tendons and makes the impossible achievable!
Amanda, I teach my beginners to do pianists finger stretches before they play. It really helps in getting chords like that, and the Bb and E chords as well. Happy strumming!
Interesting comparison. I agree about the more rounded sound on the flight (I have the aNueNue and can confirm that it's more jangly!) but I do like the volume on the aNueNue. I'd stick with my aNueNue choice - for looks and also because of the material in the nut and saddle (I do wish that flight did at least some of their instruments with a non-bone option). However, for someone buying one who didn't have the requirement for something to be as vegetarian as possible (and I'm aware that glues and finishes may not be) then it could be a close call between them :-) Thanks again for a fabulous review.
You raise a very good point - I think these fittings should be something you have an option on!
Hazel, kudos to you for being a vegetarian. Mastodon, as it’s extinct, might be a good nut and saddle material choice, no?
I like the sound of the flight much better. I am not a fan of the blue guard either or the headstock. The price is very good on both. Interesting comparison….thanks as always…DOC
Certainly a rounder tone!
I actually like it, without reservation. Possibly because I don't really care about the pick guard or the slotted headstock - I've got slotted on my Kai 5000 concert. 🤷🏻♂️
I do like the sound/tone of the flight and would love to hear it on a soprano scale instrument.
As for the shoddy Q.C., well there's just NO excuse for that bridge blooper; Ray Charles could have spotted that one. Inexcusable! (Never would have got past the lads at SUS, I think).
Thanks, as ever, for a great review Baz. Have a good week mate! 👍
No indeed, SUS would spot it - but if you are a brand and you shove too much work on your dealers without taking care of it yourself you then eventually lose your dealers.
As much as I love Flight I agree with everything you say. Think this is a poor relation and the Anuenue comes out the better instrument by far. Thanks Barry
Thanks Richard!
Baz, I’m with you. Open headstocks look weird on concert and soprano scale ukes. Scruffy woodwork is a dealbreaker for me.
I don’t need a pick guard, I don’t use a pick. I destroyed the lovely appearance of my Cocobolo ukulele top with my fingernails, but I don’t mind, it still looks good. I think a pick guard is the fastest way to damage the ukes appearance. Bleah.
Thanks for another entertaining review!
I'm with ya Nickie
The color of the pickguard is really cool looking but it does not work on the Iris. I'm surprised to see the finishing mistakes! Was it a discounted factory second or blemish? Enjoyed the review and comparison. I like both of their voices.👍👍
Not a second. It was sent to me direct by the Flight main distributor - you couldn't make it up! The team at Flight were horrified.
@@GotAUkulele I bet they were. Just goes to show a mistake can happen to any company. Having a good shop that might catch something like this is a wonderful thing.
@@markattardo They do need to be careful though. There have been brands that left SO much work for the shops to deal with that eventually the shops had enough and stopped carrying them. On something like this at low cost, if a shop is needing to quality check each one, that costs and there isn't much margin to begin with. End of the day the first line of QC MUST be the brand itself.
@@GotAUkulele I agree completely.
I don't own a ukulele with a pickguard, but I do like the design and color of this one. Thank you for the comparison. Not really sure why they copied the bridge. Perhaps it was an omage to aNurNue.
Copied in my humble opinion!
Hi Barry, i'm struggling to decide between this one versus Peavy Composer... any thoughts?
Years since I played a Peavey uke - but was a far FAR cry from something like this.
@@GotAUkulele thanks Barry, this is the second time you helped me to decide on next uke ;)
Both are nice ukes, but I hate the pickguard on both :D The flight has a nicer headstock shape for me.
Each to their own - if it was a tenor I'd agree - looks daft to me on a concert. I think I do like the Flight sound a bit more, but for the whole package for me the aNueNue wins it. Plus, they got there first.
I’m sure Matt at World of Ukes still has the aNueNue in stock
Ha ha!
I’ll take the UC10 over this just for the volume and brightness. I play in a old time group. It needs to be loud to go with the fiddle and guitar.
I would be unstringing and dabbing paint into that unpainted bit with a Q-tip. I suppose the pick guard could arguably be a nail guard, although the patterned blue is hideous. My main concern with slotheads is that cheap slotheads can drag and bind once they are brought up into tune. Bottom line, though: I am not tempted.
Not a fan of slots generally - maybe on tenors and up.
Is this a reupload? I have the feeling, that I had already watched this video some months ago.
No - brand new today. These ukes not long been launched
I like the aNueNue - there’s something cool and different to it. The brightness in tone for some reason “fits”, though it isn’t usually my thing. But the Flight, despite the similarities, isn’t doing it for me. Really subjective isn’t it?
Yep very!
Prefer the 'teeth rattler' and agree, not crazy about the color combo but regardless still fan of Flight.
Quite like the look of the red one. The blue is just too much for me here
@@GotAUkulele Yes, Red is way cooler!
Looks like you got a Monday morning uke there! Lol. I like the pick guard, nice contrast with the black. Also seems to cover te area that's prone to pick damage. I actually wore a hole through the face of my Kmise electro-accoustic,(partly due to those laser etched birds that also made it scratchy)had to fill it, sand it & fit a pick guard!
Shame about those bits of scruffy finishing.
To be honest - never seen the need for one before myself. Kamaka have been building for 150 years and never fitted them!
is it just me that wants to move the fret markers. ;-)
I kinda like them - different from the norm.
@@GotAUkulele it is the 1st time i have seen a uke with the offset markers, it's starting to grow on me now i have had a think.
Yeah don't like that guard looks like a cheaper version of the nighthawk
Kind of get it on the nighthawk, plus the body wood is more smoky than flat black and it works better. Here it just looks out of place i think
@@GotAUkulele yeah I think I'd have to take it off if it comes off without damaging the wood like the black tho
Was tempted to try - but not my uke!!
I do like the black too.
@@GotAUkulele yeah might be worth a message to see if it is removable
