Love those old gangster cars like the ones in this movie, black 1930 Buick 4 dr sad, thanks RUclips for all the George Raft films you up load, love um all. 5-1-23
I'm glad you are enjoying Raft's movies but you can thank me for putting them up on George's RUclips channel. To be honest YT doesn't even let me put up all of the movies he made. So I put what they allow me. Thanks for stoping by.
@@hollywood-thegoldenage5310 I thought he showed a wonderful range in this. He seemed to be really experiencing joy in his acting here. Raft is so darned cute!
@@hollywood-thegoldenage5310 Hi there! We diehard Raft fans sure do know his comedic talent! In another reply I listed several scenes where he made me L O L!
I'm a late comer in falling in love with George Raft 's magnificent acting talents in all his films and of course Joan Bennett was a given since Dark Shadows and before. I rate this a golden 10.
One of my favorite actors George Raft a really class act. Another actor I really enjoyed watching especially as a heavy, was San Francisco LIoyd Nolan.
Spectacular performances from Raft, Bennett, and most of the cast as well, combined with a very witty script, make this among the finest conedies of that decade. Bennett is simply ravishing.
Lots of *V e ry* funny bits in this one! Raft and Bennett really work well together! All the people who described his acting as "wooden" should see T h i s film. It's one of Raft's best. Director Tay Garnett.
Just a darn good entertaining movie. Bet they had no idea we would have as much fun watching it as they probably did, making it 89 yrs later. Director, Tay Garnett started out as a comedy writer. Thank you.
As a diehard Raft fan, I'm now on my third round of all his films; as many as "permitted" free on youtube! Apparently, he never blabbed and bragged about his romances, and treated women respectfully. Hard to resist, with that plus his dance moves. I always enjoy Raft's versatility, even tho he wasn't a "great" actor. really funny scenes I recall: à la vaudeville, I've seen him literally H o o k e d off the stage while dancing; cooking breakfast at a kitchen stove in his cool suit, covered by a frilly apron; crawling through mud under a bench on hand and knees to grab a lost piglet; hanging by his thumbs with Gary Cooper on an evil privateers ship; being knocked down by a huge German Shepherd dog leaping onto his back ( not *that* funny), etc.etc. Raft just had such charisma of charm plus toughness, and those damn dance moves...wonderful!❤
34:34: I spotted the comedic " stock - in - trade" expressions of Franklin Pangborn : surprised/ puzzled / inconvenienced... he poppedup in many films . Here, he gets a hat landing on his head , when the family are waiting to see George Raft, about their behaviour.😊🎩 Franklin was a long way down the list of minor characters .. Not mentioned in the "Players" list , at the start of the film .📽️🎬 🇬🇧😊👍💙🌈🦉🇺🇲
Top notch cast, with a great director, working with an insightful story that examines the spectrum of greed, avarice, morality, and the power of rehabilitation of the human spirit. A parable of the "second chance" and most likely a welcome message to an audience of the depressing 1930s. Thank you for sharing.
@@lendrury2771 Have you joined my Facebook group for George? Maybe you can tell that story. I'm having a hard time introducing it, being the lady I am.
@@hollywood-thegoldenage5310 I'll join your page but I'm not telling that story lol about mr rafts endowment in the lower extremities lol but the ladies loved him because he was a stand up no bullshit guy and a true gentleman
The fact is, someone being very large doesn't necessarily mean they're a good lover-t's all about the motion of the ocean. I'm speaking from experience my first husband was very large but that wasn't what attracted women to him it was his sense of humor I did go out with somebody that was even bigger for a while but I I it was more painful to be avoided- other women I've talked to agree. the fact that George didn't kiss-and-tell and seemed very gentlemanly (as far as we know anyway) plus a great dancer+++

I love George Rafts movies
and George loves you for it.👏
Great movie. George Raft is wonderful!
I'm presuming you are in the group. I'm glad you liked it and George should have done more romantic comedies, he was good in them.

Love the legendary Joan Bennett...a hybrid cross between It Happened one Night and My Man Godfrey.
Too bad no one knows this side of Raft. He was good in comedy.

George Raft became/was unusually animated in this enjoyable comedy. Thanks HTGA.
What a gem! He was the real deal, love George Raft! Thanks💖
Really cute movie, clever plot! Thank you
You are welcome. Come back for more.
Joan Bennet looks better as a brunette. She and Raft are 2 of my favorites.
They did 4 movies together. George also did a movie with her Father Richard Bennett.
She was starred in the 60s gothic soap Dark Shadows. Can't believe she started acting in the 30s.
Great fun!! Thanks for sharing this.
Nobody in the comments mentioned Alan Mobray. I’ve always thought he was really good. Didn’t let me down in this film.

This was great! Some of the best character actors in the business are also in this movie.
What a great movie! Lots of fun!
Leon Shamroy was later renowned for his Technicolor work at Twentieth Century-Fox.
The description reminds me of "My Man Godfrey (1936)".

None of the women could take it from raft

The man was huge

Some fancy hand work there, ending at 47:12
The sound is not great
Why does everyone yell?
You call that yelling? Watch anything with Lucille Ball after "I Love Lucy."
Why....have you sensitive ears?
I have met that guys son, and have always hated him.

talk....talk....talk......melodrama SUCKS. !~!! even WITH Raft AND Bennett !!!
