You make attacking look so easy! Can you please consider doing an instructional video devoted to preparing and executing attacks? Some topics like when you know it’s a good time to attack vs defend, how to set up an attack to succeed, when to sacrifice etc.
I've had dubious attacks succeed at the 1500 ish level simply because the attack itself makes the opponent uncomfortable. I'd say the best first step to learning to attack is to simply try attacks out and be unafraid to lose. Losing attacking positions will teach you how to navigate attacking positions.
@@Kirisame312 I’m 2000, and I agree with what you’re saying. Just go for it! If you lose, all you lose is some elo, anyway. If you think an attack is promising, prepare slowly and attack fast!
@@Kirisame312 thank you for the tip, I will definitely be doing that. I like attacking so I do it probably more than I should, and I would say it’s like 50/50 whether or not they succeed (1100~ elo). Also sometimes they do succeed even when I think they shouldn’t have just because the opponent feels too pressured. But going for an attack when I shouldn’t and then having it lose the game does feel crappy and it would be nice to learn the principles of attacking and such.
There are only a couple on series on youtube that I have been so persistent on watching and this is one of the few. Danya’s videos bumped my rating by almost 200 in a week and I am still climbing
Been stuck in the 400’s for the last month, keep getting close to 500 on 10 min rapid but have platued a this past month. (Really started actually playing chess 5 months ago. ) these videos and your detailed analysis really showes me how deep your level of understanding is and the importance of questioning every move and taking your time. Very inspirational.
Just love this video and the whole series! His calm approach and ability to explain the thought process is invaluable rather than just saying what moves are best in theory. This one great as since I started often played a similar opening without knowing it’s name? Doesn’t always go quite as well as his games for some reason!!
Another great video Danya! Again, I just want to say to thank you for all your videos! I've learned so many new tactics day by day just from watching you! I hope you have a good morning/afternoon/evening!
I started playing the Scotch when I began chess purely because I'm Scottish. I'm glad it's a sound opening and I'm binge watching all of your videos on it. Also the Sicilian is great as black and has helped my barren opening knowledge. Thanks Danya
I've watched so many of these videos and I'm really impressed by how Danya often compliments a beginner or intermediate player when they make a good move. It shows genuine strength of character given that he's one of the best players in the world lol
Been waiting for this speedrun video for what feels like ages now! Like others have mentioned your tips on attacking are really great. If you made a longer video or a mini-series devoted to attacking ideas I really think it would be a hit. Personally (and I think many of your viewers would be in the same boat), my two main problems are punishing passive players and punishing overly aggressive players. I know the opponent has weaknesses somewhere but I'm never able to take advantage of it. Would love to see an instructive video on this.
Thank you for the amazing and educational content! You are by far my favorite chess “advisor”, so concise and logical, you don’t just say what moves, but make us ask our own questions and form how we think about chess, which is far more beneficial. “Teach a man to fish…”
Qg2 was a very instructive move and definitely not what I would have played. I would have gone for the more natural Be2, which would have disconnected the queen from the kingside, making the attack less potent. Even the fact that I can talk about the moves in this way is largely your doing. Thank you for the videos and keep up the great work, Daniel!
what i'm starting to realise is that the best way to improve at chess is just playing AND don't care if you win or not (although you should aim to win, just don't make it your priority) but focus on improving from every game, try things out. that applies especially if it comes to attacking. you just have to try it yourself. i'm not saying you shouldn't calculate moves, it's just that if you see an attack looks promising - go for it, the worst that can happen is you will lose some points BUT you will at least learn something new (unless it's a tournament or something where you can finally really see how much progress you made:)
I know it’s a year late, but without threatening to take the queen immediately, he could give up on taking back the bishop and save his queen with f5. Still dead lost either way
I think this is the first time I've laughed that much watching chess 9:47 Of course this was a slip but it was funny and ironic how he won at the end...
Love your videos but would really appreciate if you could adjust the audio level to be slightly higher. As it is now, if I don't adjust (lower) the volume in time, the commercial becomes extremely loud which is a problem especially watching late at night and living in an appartment having neighbours.
I said it last time we saw the four knights scotch and I'll say it again this time. Could we see a Belgrade or Krause gambit from the four knights possibly? They're some of my favorite variations to play from the position and are dangerous for black since most of the pitfalls come from seemingly natural moves.
@@damiandab335 He said he's not playing anything that's objectively dubious or that isn't solid. The belgrade and krause are both solid options from a practical and theoretical standpoint and they aren't played often enough in a majority of games for anyone to be prepared to deal with them OTB. So as I've played them and taught others them they've won many games just due to a small amount of prep and common themes of play. But I didn't specifically say I wanted to see it in the speedrun either, just asking in general if we could see it sometime in the speedrun, opening lab, or busting the gambits series even, just want to see it get some love and attention since I never see anyone use it or talk about it because it comes from the four knights and not many people in higher ratings typically play it.
Looks like very easy when you explain moves with details.. I play scotch as my primary opening with white and most of the time I get this kind of position.. But I fail to convert.. Sometimes I fail even a +2.5 position.. I am a 1400-1500 player..
Great videos!! What’s meant by a position being “theoretical?” Also, what’s playing by theory? I hear loads of GM’s say this from time to time when annotating games.
It means that the position has been played before at high-level games and the best moves, their order, etc. are well-established. Basically, a position that you can learn by reading/learning the theory rather than playing it out on your own.
Dont listen to the other comment about engine moves, theory is in chess all openings, all openings are planned and studied up to a certain point, if you are '' playing by theory '' the first 10 moves of the game that means that you are playing moves that you or others have ahead of time already prepared, and often is considered, the best move. So theory equals openings, altough there is also theory for winning Endgames, but this is a rare reference to make.
I hope I can make enough money in the future to repay you for the countless hours of entertainment and invaluable instruction. There's a reason you have such a strong cult following. Thank you so much for the consistent uploads - they are always the highlight of my day.

around 7:00 couldnt you take the knight and then after the bishop takes back, you play f5 winning the queen?

Some cool examples of trapping pieces in this one… checking for available squares & seeing opportunities👍

That king b1 move (or g8) has always been an enigmatic thing to me.
Avoids getting checked on the diagonal while defending the corner pawn.

Naroditsky is the best chess instructor
I'd say promoting to rook/bishop/knight instead of a queen with mate is one of the ancient rules in chess.

At 11:43 wasn't Qg3 better? Threatening takes on f2 or mate on h4?
