Short but packed with insights! This series is helping beginner me form ideas of how to think about the opening, and that’s really important since I’d constantly make poor and sketchy moves following the vague & exception-ridden generic “opening principles” (I’m so creative at finding ways to go wrong😆)

Wow i learned a lot from this. Placing your queen preemptively on h3 to prevent h4, before that placing it on e6 to get it into an attacking position requiring multiple moves over just building a not as convincing battery, also this clamping pawn structure i always tried to avoid seems quite strong so i will experiment with it more. Awesome video!

I loved bxf5, exf5, qd3 around 2:00 .... this position just looks scary so I wouldn't intuitively go for it, but with accurate play it's totally fine, as you prove!

Fifth video asking danya to play the grand prix, now that you're reaching the higher ranges you'll be facing a lot of sicilians as white and what better than to use a really simple opening? We need grand prix!

Very nice. It's not a Maroczy bind but an improved stonewall without the backward e6 pawn and the bad bishop on c8. But you have some issues with the weak pawns on f5 and b7 because Bc8 is gone so that's the trade off. Trying to play Slav b7 is a big issue for me so I'm that semi-slav and regular stonewall pleb.

Hi Daniel, really love your videos on different openings! Just curious, can we get a Petrov Defense with some explanation of different variations like Classical, Steinitz, etc)? I am a Petrov player and would really appreciate this!

  • @24yroldchessimprover84

Instead of playing Bd6, playing Nc6 with later castling Q-side along with playing h5 sometimes even before castling was preferred by SF 14.1 NNUE. The problem with Bd6 is that it allows the Ba3 plan as you suggested during the video. Also, at the very beginning, if white played Qb3 instead of Bd3, black still has the advantage but the position completely changes nature after White takes the b7 pawn. If black does not gambit the b7 pawn and plays b6 instead then the position becomes closer to equality even though black is slightly preferred.

F4 was winning multiple times during the game, especially at 10:00 because if E pawn takes you can capture the knight with rook and if G pawn takes then whites King is basically screwed with bishop sac on F4 which cant be captured and at The very least you win material because of Queen fork. Im sure Danya refrained from Making this move because of the complexity and low rating.

I'll admit I didn't like you too much before because I felt you were mocking some big youtuber in past, but I'd have to say you probably do know him well and were joking. I have looked at a lot of chess channels and although this one is not my favorite, I will have to say you are the best chess instructor by far. It's needless to mention Magnus, but you teach 10 times better than him.
