- I bought this Mamod Brooklands Roadster off of ebay and review its flaws and general operation. Then I run it on the bench and finally outside. My first video on a hopeful series of videos about steam engines in particular but also internal combustion in the future.
That is so cool! I had no idea that these models actually worked. It's a beautiful looking car. But I would guess it was hard to drive, no power steering. And how far did it go before it needed filled up again. I love the display! I learned a lot, thanks for taking the time to make this video.
It's really hard to steer, especially since I don't have the steering stick that these came with originally. Lack of power I think comes from only 1 wheel drive and I may not have had the burner tray in properly which didn't make enough steam. It can run about 10 minutes before the fuel runs or and the water gets too low to safely operate. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I have a version of the Mamod car from the late 70’s. Instead of a sight glass in the front of the boiler, mine had a removable water level plug. My brothers had other Mamod vehicles but I don’t believe they enjoyed them as much as me.
Its really a fun little car. Eventually, which may be years, I Would like to RC it.
Hi Everett. Great video! I had not seen an in-depth vid of the Mamod car. You may be right about the Buick. I should have thought something British like Rolls Royce, but that Buick looks very very close. I have also never tried that gel fuel. Interesting. I had not even heard of it until your video! Your fuel tray works very well. Jay Leno has a few life size steam cars, and for those reading this that don’t know, yes there were various steam cars in the early days of the automobile, just as there were electric cars. Ford and big oil squeezed all those developments out. Awesome. I look forward to the next.
I wish I could have just a fraction of a garage like Jays. I will be okay with my countertop engines for a while, but eventually I might try to make something larger like a boat to actually travel in.
@@everett86 a boat would be cool. I know a fellow in Holland with a small steam powered launch.
I know this was really dry and boring. I'll have to add some fun and humor into my next video.
I have one of these and a few other steam engines I think the roadster was based on the mercer race about
Interesting! Thanks for the info. Its hard to say exactly what vehicle its based on, I dont think Mamod even knows.
Hi, i just bought a special edition SA1B roadster. Never fired but missing the fire tray. How much are they worth? Thank you for any information. I never know how cool they are till i watched your Video 👍👍👍
They are worth whatever your willing to pay for it, typically around $200USD. They were in production for a very long time and only recently (2024) stopped being manufactured. The fuel trays go missing often, and replacements are about $25USD.
@everett86 thank you. I picked it up today at a yard sale for$10.00
@@stephennicholson4582 Lucky dog! Hope she runs well!
