  • **The views and opinions expressed on this channel are my own and do not reflect the views of my current or former employer. This is for informational purposes only. I'm not a government spokesperson**
    If you're like me then you probably applied to the TSA as a foot in the door to the Federal Government. 10 years ago the Federal hiring process was a mystery to me and everyone claims to have to magic formula. Stop paying people for useless advice or listening to those who have never been through the process. No one internally can get you hired to make any recommendations to get you "in". That's NOT how it works!!!!!!!
    Here I have explained my experience with the hiring process and what really happens during each step. I took me close to 2 years to get hired. I left in 2013 for a promotion to a different Federal agency. This job is whatever you want it to be. Its a career, retirement gig, or if you're me it's a foot in the door.
    I am using my channel to help those going through tough times during this recession with career advice and also talking about my own experiences from the 2008 recession and what I learned from them. I will also share stories of what i have experienced while holding my Federal jobs, especially at the TSA. I have a LOT of TSA stories, enough to cover 2 years worth of videos. I provide career advice for both private and public sector. I have been a career counselor and mentor for the last 5 years.
    If you want one-on-one career prep, resume help and interview prep then please reach out to me by email or post a comment on the video. I do not charge for my help. I am good at what I do and I don't have any interest in money.

      Effectively Answer all Interview Questions ruclips.net/video/RQGf45oOlH4/видео.html
      Types of Interview Questions with Examples
      ruclips.net/video/ihr3skIZ1sQ/видео.html
      In a next few weeks I'll be setting up a way to help people 1-on-1 with Federal job interview prep, resume writing and prep, and how to evaluate a Federal job posting and keyword evaluation.
      If you're interested in 1-on-1 help after you pass your CBT, let me know. I'll send you the details on how to get started.
      The types of questions on the CBT will be basic reading and writing, with the difficulty of an 8th grade final exam.
      The xray test is a different story. It tests color vision. To get an idea of what it will be like. go to Google and search "x-ray baggage screening images". Go through those images and try to identify the objects in the pictures. Those will be the same types of images you'll see on the xray portion of the CBT. I went in a took the test cold, back in 2009. There was no information on all this back then, especially no images on Google.

      I have applied to the FB group with both of my FB accounts.
      I completed the CBT, and filled out everything for the E-qip SF-86 and submitted it a few weeks ago but I haven't received any response about the background check. I'm wondering when they will start the investigation or if they already have.
      I'm still waiting for my airport assessment, and I even completed a second application to a different airport nearby to hopefully increase the odds of being selected soon for airport assessment.
      How would I know when the background investigation is complete? Does every applicant get interviewed by a investigator? Do they send a email to inform me that the investigation is complete?

    • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  2 года назад +5

      1. You will have an actual interview with an investigator and you'll get a document uploaded to your eOFP when your investigation is complete. Don't worry about this for now.

      3. Yes

      Medical takes a few hours, background cash take 90 days to get your interview scheduled and then another 90 to you get a final result. I worked at the Atlanta airport and my starting was $15.50. TSA and FAA are on an antiquated pay scale, so the pay is a lot different from the rest of the government. I left to a different agency with in DHS back in 2013, so I'm no longer on the TSA pay scale.
      If you want to ball park what you will be paid. Look up the GS-5 pay in your locality. Then subtract 10k off that. If you're part-time, after you subtract 10k, then you divide by 2.
      I never intended on staying at TSA passed 2 years. So I didn't care much about pay. I just needed a foot-in-the-door.

      You won’t be able to take you kids to FLETC unless you have some one to live off campus with them. I don’t think home airport training is an option anymore. FLETC for TSA was started to deliver a nationwide standardized training program. You can ask in the interview or on your first day at orientation if you take the job.

I received an email telling me to wait as the processing procedure is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Yes very common, but now that TSA lost most of their people did to covid (they quit) the hiring will go faster since travel is coming back. I actually applied in 2009 and got hired in 2011. The dates on my Candidate Dashboard a published incorrectly. I don't know why but that's what HRAccess did. Took me 22 months to get hired. The fastest I've seen it go is 90 days. • @theTSAguy
      @theTSAguy  2 года назад +1

      The airport assessment is now virtual via Webex due to COVID. When doing virtual interviews you can wear a button-up shirt. I usually throw on a tie and sport coat to show them I'm serious about the job. Even when I do phone interviews I still wear a suit and tie just to get into the proper interview mind set.
      I actually cover dress-code in my video on interviewing.
      When it comes to interviews you always want to dress conservatively. There have been multiple reports of people passing the CBT but still received rejection notices due to showing up in jeans. The rejection notice literally stated, "Failure to adhere to professional attire". I too thought that was taking it too far but the TSA does require testing sites to complete candidate evaluation forms. The forms do ask about how the candidate is dressed and punctuality.
      During my in-person interview in 2011 there were several people that showed up in jeans. One guy even had on a sweater vest and a tie with nice jeans that he ironed. Long story-short....I never saw any them again.
      Ask yourself this, if you were a federal hiring manager and your candidate walked in wearing jeans, would you hire them to represent your agency?

      Hey Alexa,
      TSA leaves the posting open till the due date. Whoever applies will start going through the process after the posting closes. There will always be positions available because turn over numbers are astronomical. The job posting closing date is just a way to control the flood gates and keep an adequate supply of candidates in the hiring pipeline. Hiring is a year round process. You can always apply to one airport and then contact HRAccess and tell them to transfer your application to another airport. So don't worry about dates.
      Ex. If there's 50 spots open, and 150 apply. Then all 150 will go through the hiring process. You will all sit in the "Ready Pool" until it's your turn to get a start date as more openings come up. Then rinse and repeat.
      If you haven't subscribed yet go ahead and do so. I'll have more videos coming. Also I made a facebook group for people in the Federal employment hiring process to compares notes and ask questions. Link is below.

      Debts are fine just make sure you’re not in delinquency or default. Once you pass the CBT don’t worry about the specifics of the qualifications. You’ll automatically get an interview and progress through to the ready pool once once you complete all the steps in the hiring process. Just don’t fail the interview.
