my company screwed up my clearance. that happened on May 22nd this year. here it is Oct 22nd and mine is still not complete. I've had a clearance since 2006. also all clearances as of 2018 are now under "continuing evaluation" that 10 years for secret and 7 for TS no longer apply. Also the threshold for finances is 20k in collections or charge offs. if you're over 20k the investigators will have a talk with you to make sure you don't have a problem. that 7500 is for a single person. they just want to make sure you don't have a drinking, gambling or alcohol problem. as long as you're honest and don't lie you will be OK. Just make sure your company's FSO is keeping up with requests for information because if they don't respond your clearances will be put on hold and you will not be able to come to work until the investigators have completed a new background check. that is what happened to me. luckily my investigation is complete and I'm just waiting on adjudication. thanks for the informative video.
Yes, you're right about the dollar amount thresholds.
When I got additional information requests the investigators always called me directly. I think this varies from agency to agency.
It's interesting that the 10 and 7 year thresholds have been removed and converted to a continuing basis. I usually learn about these when I have to actually go through the process.

Not true if you have student loans. Student loan debt is automatic denial. Or you have to fill out an SOR and go before a judge and doha lawyer who will eat you alive.
No you’re fine with student loans. I have student loans still and I was approved for 5 clearances. I didn’t have to do any of that. I work with a few lawyers with 6 figure student loans. If what you’re saying was true then no one would get hired by the fed.
If your student loans are in default then that’s a different story. You can read more about it at opm.gov and at the Inspector General’s website.

You’re scenario is very routine. You’ll be surprised how many feds find themselves in this same situation. You’re not expected to be perfect, but you are expected to be honest. Otherwise the fed would never hire anyone.

I am a former homeland security supervisor and an OPM breech victim. I am still being terrorized after they lost my information to the Chinese.
Don’t feel bad, my information got hacked multiple times, even on hotel platforms. Just get credit monitoring and keep and eye on your reports. You can also call all three bureaus and freeze you credit until you’re ready to buy a house, car, boat, private jet, etc…

I did my SF-86 form today. Since I enlisted in the Navy in 2015 I believe my clearance is still good for another so hopefully my background check doesn't take long.
They can use your navy clearance, but TSA will just do it all over anyways
Old I know….. once you get out, it’s not usable like an ID or piece of paper.

The final clearance will come after you have an interview with the investigator. You might have your final clearance decision by June or July. Yes, people do fail. However, to be denied such a low level clearance means you really must have some skeletons in your closet or you tried to cover things and got caught

Everytime I watch your videos I get more nervous. No one's perfect and I don't want any little thing to jeopardize my background check.
Bro chill lol, if every little thing mattered no one would have a job. I’ve been fired 2x and written up at my previous jobs multiple times. Multiple speeding tickets, and other fun stuff…Just be honest with them and don’t hide anything. If you forget to tell the investigator something it’s no big deal. I forgot I had debts that existed. I got confronted, explained it away, and we moved on.
You’ll be surprised how much it really takes to get denied a clearance.
I use a certain tone in my videos because there’s always one that thinks they can get away with anything.

Yes you need to list all you employment if you were paid for it.
Doesn’t matter if you got fired, as long as you’re honest about it.
After you pass the assessment all the other steps happen all at the same time.
As a former special agent for what is now the Defense Counterintelligence and Security Agency I did plenty of background investigations up to and including TS/SCI. If you take nothing else from this video, listen to the need to be honest. Lie about one thing and everything else is suspect. Many times a subject interview is not required depending on the type of clearance unless a) you disclose something negative in your SF-86 or b) the agent uncovers negative information in his investigation. If you question yourself about whether to disclose an issue, err on the side of caution and do so. Better that than having the investigator bring it up and ask why you didn't mention it. Mitigation is always considered when disclosing negative info.
These interviews are the only time I sing like a canary 🤣
What is mitigation? Like you can have some type of agreement before you disclose something negative?

My only issue with what u said is the honesty. It's not easy to go back 10 to 20 yrs with dates. My memory isn't what it was at 20 lol. So it won't be purposely a lie I just dnt remember. I'm human I have debt and have had terrible jobs that didn't pay worth anything so I got behind. I've had husband's n deaths in the family that have set me back so my first eqip was not passed. Now I'm trying again n I dnt really feel confident about it I js feel judged n very harshly. I'm trying to pay off things buy jobs I've had haven't paid enuf. What do u do in this instance.

Well I submitted my application may 26th, then I received an email stating I had to take the CBT before June 6th. I took the test and passed June 3rd. Then on June 10th I was scheduled my airport assessment for June 15th and I submitted my background check on June 12th. Keeping my fingers crossed
I tried looking up my travel history because I’ve been all over since I got out of the marine corps. I checked the boarder control travel history look up on cbp.gov, but no information was available for me. I just used the dates on my passport stamps. Hopefully that’s good enough cause it’s been so long and I don’t remember.

I”m applying for TSA job, I forgot to mention on the SF-86 form that I worked as an uber driver for a very short time, not consistently, just as needed. The reason for forgetting was that I thought it wasn't important to mention, as I’ve worked in 2018 for only two days throughout the year. This year, I worked for one week, two hours a day, and the income is not over $500 for the year. Only In 2019, I earned $1700, and I believed that since it's under $2000, I didn't have to file taxes for it.

Is this like a new thing in TSA or are they screwing us up because I submitted my SF86 in August of last year had my airport assessment and passed the medical evaluation and now it’s March and they are having me redo and resubmit the whole entire SF86 again. With no error and everything completed already back in August. Like what the hell is going on? If I had any errors they would let me know or but instead I had to email them telling them about my whole story and I’ve been waiting and they simply emailed me back the next day with another link and login info to complete another SF86. This is really not fair and hurts because I’ve been waiting for like 8 months now. I should have already had my background checked and cleared by now. I don’t know what the hell is wrong with some of these federal agencies. Like what are we supposed to do eat from a dumpster and live that way? It’s like the more I need the job and I’m desperate the more they don’t care. It’s like I’m begging and hoping I get the job at this point.
You bring up several points that I will address in turn.
1. I can definitely understand the frustration you are feeling. However, the SF-86 software will have your information already saved. You just need to revise it and resubmit.
2. Waiting 8 months is not that long to be in the hiring process for a federal job. From the feedback I get from my followers, the average hiring time is about 12 months. I applied in October of 2009 and wasn't hired until July of 2011. The process and timeline is what it is.
3. You are in the process of asking someone else to give you a job and give you their money in exchange for giving them your time and labor. When you work on a W-2, you are subject to the requirements established by the employer.
4. Let's just be honest, no one is expecting you to eat from a dumpster nor expecting you to endure a subpar quality of life. Be careful what you speak into your life because your own words will function as a self-fulfilling prophecy.
5. The quality of life you live is your responsibility, not the employer's. You're right, they don't care...you are one of several thousand candidates in the pipeline looking for a job with the agency. HR is trying to keep the process moving as best as they can. Stop directing your anger towards a situation you have no control over.
6. Stop focusing on the problem and start being solutions oriented. You should be submitting tailored resumes to multiple jobs several times per week until you are actually hired. Repeat this process until you get to where you want to be in life.
This is probably a stupid question but do they actually contact your college and high school
For a basic public trust clearance, no. But for anything higher, yes. They actually contacted my registrar’s office for undergrad and grad school. Even talked to my classmates and professors.

Very informative video. Great things pointed out. But I have a concern regarding my background investigation. I have passed all phases of the tso all the way up to medical. However, on my background check my concern is I have been fired three times in row. All from three different retail jobs. The first one was a customer complaint saying that I said a bad word. And I was let go. The second and third job was due to not meeting performance expectations while working a second job(still have )As a result I was let go because of that. I only had the second and third job for a month and month apart from each other. Will those things disqualify me from passing the background check? Will the ask the employers specifically why I got fired? I have no other problems with any of the other categories.
Investigator will want to know why you got fired. None of those reasons are serious enough to keep you from getting a clearance. Now, for example, if you were fired because you hacked the payroll system and gave yourself a pay raise…that would be a different story.
I’ve been fired too and I did fine. Not the end of the world.

I have been fired three times and the last two were all related to not meet work expectations with working in a fast paced retail environment. I feel like that they be looked at twice by the tsa.

TSA blue shirts are not agents, they are just federal officers without law enforcement authority.

For your investigation, everything is free game. You will have an opportunity to explain any rough patches.

If you work for the Federal Government say Border Patrol…..if you apply to the DEA/FBI do you have to go through a whole new background or will it pickup/reciprocate from the one done with BP?
It’s supposed to reciprocate, but agencies still tend to do their own investigation over again.

What about credit? Like things being in collections?
You can be in collections as long as you work out a payment plan and you’re actively making payments. Keep all correspondence with the collections company and receipts of all payments.
Hello sir thank you for all the help lately I had another quick question, on the SF86 it asks about being warned written up or reprimanded but it’s phrased at bit oddly at the end with mentioning security details.
For this employment, in the last seven (7) years have you received a written warning, been officially reprimanded, suspended, or disciplined for misconduct in the workplace, such as a violation of security policy?
What exactly is this asking me to disclose? Write ups in general or if I violated a security policy?
If you were ever in trouble because you violated company security protocol. Like you didn’t lock the doors after closing, or you gave some access to building when they shouldn’t t have been allowed in or giving away the alarm passcode or tampering with the first safety systems. Those are just examples. Being late and stuff does not count.

I’m still waiting for my results to get hired by the Geo group/ICE, I got two speeding tickets this year and my credit score isn’t the best and I have a few small bills in collections. No criminal record at all, and not sure what previous employers may say about me, I’ve never been fired, but it’s been two months, still haven’t heard anything yet.

As long as you’ve been making payments on the bills in collections and you have proof of each payment or you have proof of a payment plan and can show you have been making payments
Credit score, traffic tickets and previous employer problems are not really an issue. The investigator looks at the entire application to determine if you’re a national security risk. I’ve been fired 2x and I still got a federal job.
Two months is not long, the security clearance takes the longest.

@Teeko253 it’s 2 different things, your application is complete and submitted, second thing is to start the actual investigation.
I have a quick question. You said that when applying you go back 10 years and if you are 28, u start from 18th years old. I’m 25, how far back would that go for me? From 15 years of age or 18th?

I was terminated from a job February of this year. It was due to a mistake I'd made. Since then I've been unemployed. Initially I was planning on receiving unemployment but it took two months to get the interview and I was denied but never received an appeal letter until it was too late. I didn't realize the prices was so long for a civilian job on a naval base! I had savings so I have been okay. I received an email this morning asking what I've been doing (working wise). In the past 5 months I've only had a two week temp job. Worked one day at a job I realized was not for me, and the email I received this morning asked about my employment since 02/22. Not sure what to answer!!

If it’s your first interview, I’d set aside about 3-6 hours. These tend to get long.

@@theTSAguy the interview took a little over an hour, all they did was go over the SF86 more in depth and asked me if there was anything else I needed to declare and I did and it was annotated. Then he talked to a supervisor and someone else that’s known me at work for over a year. Now I Just wait I guess lol

But does this information goes back to a term of years? Or the police report only goes to the 7 years deadline.
Your police record is permanent no amount of time makes it go away. Even if you get it expunged the investigator will make you get the information or you risk a denied clearance.
I know this is an old video but I have a quick question. I’m 5 months into my application and they just finished my background investigation after a month & a half and unfortunately did not pass or qualify. Is there any reason as to why? I’m I automatically not qualified for the position because it says to reapply after 6 months & I thought they gave you 3 tries to correct your form? Kind of a waste of time.
You can ask the agency why your security clearance application was rejected. They have to give you answer. What did your rejection notice say?
@@theTSAguy Yes, I might call the agency asking why my background got rejected & if there’s anything I can do to revise it & pass to get the job. On the email I just got sent minutes ago all it states is “We regret to inform you that you did not pass the pre-hire background investigation requirement for this position” follows it with that I will be receiving a letter in the mail from PSD regarding the results & that I will be able to reapply in 6 months? Does that mean the job is a no-go for me already?
Yea, that’s exactly what it means. Wait for the letter and see what it says. I never dealt with this but the rejection letter should say how you can file an appeal.
Thank you for this information. My question is what if you respond no to having debt on the eqip for not having the details at the time of submission. Will that automatically reject you or will you possibly get the interview, upon completing and getting the medical pass, to explain about the debt?
Don’t do that. Get the information you need to complete the application correctly. What you’re proposing counts as willfully misrepresenting material information. That’s going to raise a lot of questions and it calls your credibility into scrutiny.
Short cuts aren’t worth the hassle, just do it right the first time.

You should be fine as long as you’re not behind on payments. If you’re able to pay it all off, then just do it.
I’m filling out the SF-86 Form. I have different home addresses with some gaps in between same as my previous jobs, if the system are given me a red exclamation dot saying is an error but for me all information is true and correct, should I put like you said some explanation on the space/box is giving you to explain?? do I still able to send the form like that for clearance?
No, you MUST list every address you lived at. Even if you were homeless. You must list the address of the persons couch you stayed on or if you lived in your car then give the address of where you parked your car.
You MUST list every job you collected compensation for and list ALL periods of unemployment.
If you fail to do this your SF86 will be rejected for errors.
I am scheduled to take the CBT next Thursday I am excited but nervous at the same time. I also have a friend who wants to apply but has dismissed bankruptcy. Do you have any information on how bankruptcies are handled?

I don't have much information on bankruptcies. You do have to report them though. Bankruptcy is not an automatic disqualifier. The investigator will look into the circumstances of the bankruptcy.
Thanks for your guidance and advice through this process. I received my eQIP/e86 forms, completed and submitted last week. This morning I received an email, a duplicate email, to start the eQIP/e86 process. Does this mean my submission from last week didn't go through? Should I fill it out again?

Please help: My brothers baby mama (they’re not married but have children so they’re legally common law) applied for a job requiring “top secret security clearance” & she’s asking for my Naturalization cert #. I’m hesitant to give her that kind of information. I don’t understand why they need this from her given that we’re not related
Your information is not needed. There is no real marriage and you’re a US citizen, there is no reason to report your information. Unless you’re living in the same household and they are economically responsible for you. That’s a different story.
So I took and passed the CBT test. I have finished the SF-86 and submitted it, how long does it take to finish reviewing my form? Btw I have submitted on the 25 of August 2022. So about 11 days since I submitted it.
It can take a while to get a final answer on it, don’t worry about it. You’ll be able to start with an interim clearance.
I’m in the United States Navy active duty and I got hired to be a line service technician at the airport. I have a misdemeanor for using offensive words in a public place basically disturbing the peace. Will that prevent me from getting my SIDA badge? I’m hoping since I’m active duty military and have a security clearance with them they will give me a chance.

I was arrested a few years ago on a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana but I took a conditional discharge in order to have the charge dismissed after 6 months of probation. Would that be a problem for trying to become a TSO?
It shouldn't be a problem as long as you disclose it to the investigator and you're no longer involved in shady activities.
Fazle, is there a chance to negotiate your starting pay for tsa? I live in California and I’m worried they will want to start me at $19 an hour when some have reported up to $27. Do you have any advice?
You can’t negotiate salary since federal government salaries are based on a pay scale. Your salary level is determined based on the job you apply for and the level is skill that job requires. That job is assigned a pay grade on the pay scale. You can be eligible for non-competitive promotion if the job is advertised that way.
So, no, you can’t negotiate salary. There are lot of caveats to this and that’s where knowing government policy comes in handy. However, the federal government will not negotiate. The law will not allow it.
Only a few people are able to negotiate but those people are actively sought out by the government for a very specific purpose. Then a job posting is posted that caters to their specific skill set. All job postings must be public record for legal and transparency purposes.

If it is a GS position and you are a brand new federal hire, you CAN negotiate salary but it is a process. You can only negotiate higher starting step within the hiring grade. The tricky part is that you need to request it after you have been selected and tentative offer has been made. Then, you NEED to make sure that you have supporting documents/qualifications because starting higher steps is only considered for highly qualified individuals. Even then, the hiring manager and the chain of command needs to request it and get approved.
Yes you’re right, I was only referring to the TSA. I did negotiate salary at USCIS, however I only did this once I got hired. I didn’t to rock the boat at the beginning. Except I got accelerated promotion for a higher GS grade. Went from a 5 to a 7.

You have to list the dollar amount in each bank account, the dollar value of each real asset (cars, houses, jets, yachts, etc...) but not business merchandise
Don't worry about business associates
Don't worry about family living in your house unless they are not U.S> citizens
list professional references for jobs, personal references for people that can vouch for the schools you went to and where you live. You can literally use anyone that you know won't say bad things about you or try to ruin your career.

Our family paid him the rent every month for about a year then my wife’s family member had an issue with us living there so we moved. Who should I put down on the application that knew us when we lived there
You can list anyone that can vouch for you living there. My friends come over to my place so I use them. You don't always need to use your property owner.

make sure you have proof of payment plan with the IRS and the state and proof of each payment you made so far. It's not a disqualifier, just need to show that you're not trying to abscond on the tax man.

Investigators don’t care about how you left, they just want to make sure you weren’t doing anything illegal on the job

I’ve seen this before, remove all the information you put in and start 13A over. Enter the information backwards. Enter your most recent employment first then work your back in chronological order. Don’t skip around. Let me know if that works first.

This depends on the level of security clearance you're applying for and the type of information that you have access too. The more sensitive information you et access to then the higher your clearance will need to be. Which means the deeper the investigator will have to dig.

Lol definitely don’t call HR every Monday. The investigation can take 90-120 days, possibly longer depending on what the investigator finds. HR has no influence over this process. Just sit tight and let the process play out as it needs to.

@Xxfen1xphyrexX there is an initial check that is done, but in the last few years agencies have been waiting till the full clearance comes through. You can keep calling HR but they can’t speed up the investigation. OIG will get to it when they get to it. It’s the most frustrating part of the process.

I am joining Navy , my job is AECF which is one of top secret clearance jobs. I will have an interview with defense counterintelligence and security agency tomorrow.
My problem is I got credit collection about 20k. I know I am bad credit, but I was handling it. After dealing with collector to unify , I got a plan to pay off within 2 years.
In this case, do you know if I would be disqualify for the AECF job pf Navy? I am so nervous for the interview tomorrow.
No, you’re fine. As long as you can show you’re taking steps to pay your debt and you have a plan set in place to settle that debt. Tell the investigator exactly what you told me. They will have additional questions for you just honest with them. When you go to your interview take ALL of your documents showing you have been making on-time payments and the documents showing you have a payment plan in place. Take your bank statements as well to show proof that you have been making payments.
Investigators work through these all the time. They just want to make sure you’re not a liability. Since you’re going to be working a stable job and I presume you have a sign-up bonus, you’re going to be ok.

This is in effect for all national security jobs. “No clearance required” means you will get a low level public trust background check. “Public Trust” is not a clearance. You will still complete the SF-86 but it will be a cursory check of your credit and criminal history. There will be no deep dive in your life.

I received a registration code to complete the e86 form. I tried to log in but it says log in failed. When I log on online, it says I’m at 45 percent and that I have to wait for the airport to call me to take the airport assessment. Am I allowed to fill out the e86 before being called for the assessment. I’m curious because I received an email about completing the e86 before even being called for the airport assessment.
You complete the e86 after your airport assessment. You'll have 21 days to get it done. They don't want to initiate a security clearance process till they know you've passed the interview, but it should still allow you to start completing the paperwork. I went through hiring 10 years ago, so the process may have changed since COVID hit. Contact HRAccess and let them know what's going on.

Hi Fazle, I completed my eqip 10 days ago, yesterday i was contacted by a TSA recruiter to schedule my airport assessment. With that being said, is my eqip still being investigated? I saw in another of your videos were you state that "if your'e invited to an airport assessment, you are probably going to receive an offer." Yes your still being investigated. You can start working with an interim clearance.

On the forms I filled out it asked for 7 years.

They only contact former spouses. They want to see if the ex has any info about you that might be a red flag since the ex has intimate knowledge of you. It’s understood the ex might try to sabotage your career but they already accounted for that.

Yea you need to disclose and show them your physical DD-214 or NGB-22 if you were in the guard. It’s not a big deal. It’s the equivalent of being asked what your favorite color is. As long as it wasn’t other than honorable or dishonorable, then you’re good to go

Hi! The first process was the Zoom interview. Next the CBT, drug screening, etc. which I all passed. Then I got badged and uniformed, but I still have to wait for the E86 to clear. I was told some wait even one month. I'm not aware of having done anything wrong. (I also have a BSIS card, so I passed that background check.) My eQIP was submitted last Tuesday or Wednesday. Is there some way I could check the status online without bothering anybody?
No, you’ll know your BI cleared when you get a notice sent to your eOPF, and an email update.

is the process the same for all different levels of clearance?
No this is just in general, mostly up to Secret. Certain jobs will require polygraphs as part of the clearance packet. Also the type of information they ask for can get very detailed based on the scope of the investigation. For example TSC/CI will ask you lifestyle questions. These are usually done for single scope and full scope.
For past employment. What would happen if you don’t list an employer. I worked at a few different bars over the year and some have since closed.
If you collected a pay check and filed taxes then you need to mention it. It’s fine if the locations closed, just let the investigator know and they will do the rest.

Depends why it’s suspended. Parking and traffic tickets is one thing. Thing like reckless driving, DUIs, public endangerment….that’s a different that story that will raise a lot of questions but won’t disqualify you. Just be honest about why it’s suspended.

I don't have an answer to this. You need to speak with your US embassy contact and ask that person.
A felony in any country would eliminate you from consideration automatically. Just getting access to an Embassy requires a minimum of Secret clearance and most often TS. On top of that, as a felon that would also disqualify you from any armed positions.

Getting into the tech space now. Have a record of assault with firearm and possession with intent to sale. Charged in 2008 but can’t and will never be able to expunge. Will I be able to obtain security clearance?
that’s still not the craziest thing I’ve heard lol. Even if you got it expunged, its still not exempt from the investigation process.
Just explain the details to the investigator and let them ask their follow-up questions. Be up front and honest. Let the investigator decide what they want to do.

Yes, if it’s your first investigation then you need to disclose all of it, once it’s on the record then no need to mention it again
There is no such thing as “expunged” when it comes to a federal security clearance or national security or even for state and local purposes. The record record still exists and can be unsealed with a court ordered.
It only helps to keep your records hidden from public lexis nexus searches so that corporate employers can’t see it.
In the words of my army platoon leader, “ ‘expunged’ just means the lawyer got more money out of you”.
