Are you guys team New Curriculum, or team End of Year Thoughts?! If I'm honest, I love diving into a shiny and fresh brand new discovery, it's hard to beat 😆 I find watching wrap ups or end of year reviews incredibly helpful though, seeing whether or not a curriculum worked for a family and why. I hope you guys get some good insight into what we used for grade 4!
Thank you so much Paloma! I appreciate it! I actually have filmed and will be posting my review of the poetry and vocabulary elements from MCT, if you're interested in those components as well then keep an eye out soon :)
Awesome review!! I’ve added a few to my list ✍🏻. We also have IEW SSS but I plan to use it in Grades 5-6. I’m torn between it and Writing & Rhetoric!! So many great curricula out there it’s so hard to pick when you want it all!! ✨
Absolutely, with writing especially I was seriously considering a few before I landed on IEW and we've appreciated it so far. Writing&Rhetoric was on that list as well as EIW and it was tough to decide!
Loved this update! Congrats on your new addition Momma! 💖 Ok, I have a few questions if you don’t mind answering. We’re using MCT Island level this year for my 5th grader. Incredible program and I love the creative aspect of the writing. I’ve been seeing so many people recommend IEW and I would love to know how both of them could work together? 🤔 I know you said IEW is a huge time commitment. Did you use the vocabulary portion of MCT for either levels? If so, what’s your thoughts? 💭 Also, we’ll be using Blossom and Root for my upcoming 3rd grader next year. Loved your review on that as well! We are so excited. I’m way too ambitious as well 😅 but I’d love your feedback if you get the chance!
Hi Megan! Thanks so much! So, I didn't even start MCT Level 2 until we were done with the first 12 weeks of IEW. We did week one and I immediately was like, oh heck no. I cannot ask him to do all of this at the same time. As soon as we were done through week 12 of IEW, then I pulled out Grammar Town. We finished Grammar Town and have moved on to Paragraph Town, where we do the reading 2-3 times a week, and 2 Practice Sheets on each of the other days we do school. I'm sure there are families out there that can make both work, I personally think it would have been a very heavy load for my 10 year old.
As far as vocabulary, my son LOVED the vocabulary for Island level! It was his favorite of all of the components. And it's not as heavy as Grammar or Writing parts. I did purchase Level 2 and will start that when we're done with Paragraph Town!
wanted to add to this- my son identifies the definitions of words amazingly after doing MCT Vocabulary Level 1. You focus on latin and greek roots and use those to dive into vocabulary. I learned it this way in my schooling as well and I was excited to see it taught in an approachable way in a homeschool curriculum. Highly recommend!
@@MindfullyLiv Wow 🤩 Thank you so much for responding! Your experience and feedback is greatly appreciated. We’re just finishing up with Sentence Island; one more chapter left and then we’ll move to the vocab. I’m even more excited now! I swear I have learned so much myself with MCT!

@@meganrose22 Same here! It's such a great program. You'll have to share which component winds up being your sons favorite once he finishes them all 😁
