Hello everyone, thank you for watching the video! I now have a video covering the problems with the guitar, fixing those problems, mods, and a Review & Sound Demo. It is now available on my channel if you're interested. Take care!
Cool guitar,, and great music Jroid! I LOVE Firefly! I don't know why... but your stuff stopped coming into my feed. I thought about you today, and searched for your channel. Went to the vids... and found all sorts of stuff that I have not seen yet. So that's cool. But don't know why your vids stopped appearing in my time-line. Hopefully.... from here on out... they show up. If not... I'll find them anyway!
As always, greatly appreciate the kind words! And yeah, that's the old battle I have with my good friends, the Algorithms. These days, I do my best not to worry too much about any of that and just have fun making the videos I enjoy making. If they do good, that's great! If not, on to the next. Thank you for thinking of/remembering me and searching for me, not everyone does that so that means a lot, I appreciate you doing that. And yeah, if you check out my review/demo on this guitar, you'll see my first experience with Firefly wasn't the best, but I'm hoping to give them another go at some point. As I say in the video, they definitely make a lot of cool guitars, I always want to buy like 10 different ones on their site. And even with the issues I had, it's still a great guitar for the money so I'm sure I'll pick up another at some point. I think I might have asked you already, but what Firefly's do you have?
I got the same guitar and also have massive wiring issues. The master volume is the only knob that works properly. The switches don't seem to do anything, and one of the other knobs seems to alter the tone a little. Other than that I can't switch between pickups. They are both on all the time. I also have the Firefly FFTL with the same pickups and Bigsby, but that has a switch that properly switches between the pickups and there is a master tone that works with the other 2 knobs working as volume controls for the respective pickups. I really love that guitar!! I think it sounds and looks great!! I wish the "Falcon" would work as well because it is really beautiful!! It is heavier than I thought it would be, but I can live with that if I can make the wiring work...
Yeah, that sounds about right...or I guess I should say sounds about wrong. I rewired mine to my liking, but in its stock form from Firefly, they basically set up the two switches as coil splits, one for each pickup. And then the two lower knobs are both tone knobs, not even independent either, both affect both pickups. And yes, both pickups are always active. As you said, the master volume is the only thing that functions in a logical way. Unfortunately without purchasing extra components, I couldn't do the white falcon wiring currently so I just re-wired it so that one switch selects the pickups (bridge, middle, neck), and made the other switch coil split (coil split bridge only, coil split both, coil split neck only). Then I made it so there was only 1 tone knob and for now the other pot is inactive until I decide what I want to do with it. Perhaps in the future I will get the tone switch like a White Falcon, but for now this is pretty cool actually, sounds good. Another issue you may or may not have is that my tailpiece had no continuity from the ground wire they put in, due to the gold plating, thus the strings had no continuity either and the guitar would hum unless you were touching the pickup or switch. Just had to sand off a little of the gold plating on the bottom of the tremolo where the wire touches and good to go there. There's also some other issues, but I'm making a video on the fixes I did on this guitar as well as my full review/demo. So if you're interested, look for that soon. And I was looking at buying one of those FFTL models before I got this one, beautiful looking guitar, glad to hear it functions properly. Are those full-hollow or semi-hollow?
@@JROID Really looking forward to your repair video! That sounds like the way I'd like to set mine up, but I do like the independent volume controls on my FFTL. The FFTL is semi-hollow, and I think it's really undersold by guitarsgarden. The website only shows the front and back?!? In real life mine has a semi translucent candy apple red color, and the gold really pops! The top and back are both arched. I also bought an FFSP Black Beauty with gold hardware, and that also has wiring issues. The middle position on the switch has all 3 pickups and the neck positions has both the neck and middle - no separate neck - neck and middle are wired together, and the neck "tone" does nothing... I disconnected the middle pickup for now so it's set up basically like a regular Les Paul except no tone control for the neck. Just a temp fix - I'd like a volume for each pickup and then a master tone for all 3, but I haven't figured that out yet. guitarsgarden has beautiful guitars with great luthiers, but the electronics workers are not up to par...
@@algoribbon9992 Independant volume controls are definitely doable here, but you'd have to pretty much re-route all the wires and do it the exact opposite of how they did it, as they have the pickups going to the switches, not the pots. You'd also probably need some extra wire if you still wanted the coil split on the other switch, as those wires would then be all the way across the guitar. I went for the quickest, easiest solution so I could at least see how the pickups sounded and how I liked the guitar before putting the extra work/money into it. Your FFTL sound so nice, I don't think I've seen the red one anywhere yet, aside from on their website a while back. And goodness gracious on the FFSP, like I said in my video, I understand there will be issues, but multiple guitars across multiple models? Like you said, perhaps they need new electronics people. Or just someone to make a proper wiring schematic for certain guitars. I told them that if they need someone to test/troubleshoot their guitars before a full production run, I'm here..ha! That setup you're looking for shouldn't be too difficult, did you look up a schematic? I just searched "3 pickup les paul wiring" and there's a good looking article from "Haze Guitars".
Great video! I got one too and I love it so far other than the fact that there is no pickup selector switch. I want to make one of the switches a pickup selector. I saw in the comments that you did this. Would you mind telling me how you did it? I know how to solder but I’ve never worked on guitar wiring. I just need to know which wires I need to move around. I’m fine with leaving everything else the way it is, or if it’s simple it would be cool to do what you did and keep the other switch as a coil split. If it’s too complicated I’ll just make one of the switches a pickup selector and leave the other one disconnected. Thanks!
Thank you, I appreciate you watching, congrats on the new guitar! Sorry to hear you're having the same issues, I'd be glad to help you any way I can. I'm uploading my video on the problems, repairs, mods, review, and demo of the guitar right now, if you're interested in seeing everything. It shouldn't be too difficult for you since you know how to solder. If it's not clear enough what I did in the video, just let me know and I'll see if I can it explain better.
@@JROIDthank you! Just watched it. I’m going to try to make one of the switches pickup selector in the near future. I may have a couple questions when that time comes. Really appreciate your videos and help!
Definitely understandable. I'm currently on a pursuit to have each guitar I own offer something unique, and this one checked off a lot of firsts for me, one being the Bigsby style trem. Plus I'm a big fan of The Cult so I've always been interested in trying a Gretsch White Falcon. No way I was going to pay that much though, for an experiment, so this is probably the closest I'll get. And once I set up the trem good, it's actually pretty solid, I was expecting to have to either replace it or block it's movement, but it definitely ads something to my collection. Do you own any Firefly guitars? If so, how do you like it/them?
@@smooothybuns That's not good, like you said, that seems like they haven't actually shipped it yet, but why get a label if it's not ready to ship. Really hope it starts moving soon, it would be a shame if it's actually lost. What about the shipping company, has firefly contacted them?
@ I wish I knew. Theo email support writes in broken English but they are basically saying if shipping status doesn’t update this week they’ll just refund the item.I just want the guitar!
@@smooothybuns That's a bummer, the person I dealt with was really great, I must have gotten lucky there. Let me know if it starts moving, I hope it does, somebody has to be able to find it.
