Does Guitar Pick Material Matter? Jim Dunlop Acoustic VARIETY PACK DELRIN 500 | "Unboxing" & TEST
a new guitar can cost thousands and only have minor differences like slightly nicer frets and matt finish neck, a new pick can cost dollars and make ALL of the difference in your playing...
Personally, I do not think Simmons is as good of a company as it once was. For about the same as a Simmons e-kit, you can get a better e-kit from another company. Simmons does not have and feel it unnecessary to have a hi-hat on a stand. Simmons is only interested in making electronic kits that are sonewhat like a drumset. Simmons feels there are enough e-kit companies making accustic like e-kits that they will stick with keeping their kits more electronic like. As a drummer myself I want an e-kit to be as accustic like as possible. If the e-kit is very accustic like as mine is, it will allow you to learn to play drums correctly and you will have even more fun playing drums. The Simmons module sounds are not that great as why most who have a Simmons e-kit use a VST. The Simmons module sounds are all electronic sounding of course the electronic sounds but the more accustic sounds as well. Not sure why you would want to expand a Simmons e-kit only to lose zones. The cymbals the Simmons kits come with are not that great. They do not feel as they should to play. The Simmons cymbals are like hatd Frisbees with a thin rubber wedge on them. Simmons did come out with a metal cymbal pack but these are only cosmedic and do not perform or feel any better to play. Years ago I had an old Simmons e-kit and at tbe time it was one of the better ones on the market. After I played it daily for about 10 years some of the pads began to fail. As this was an older e-kit it was discontinued, which I was disappointed about as I felt it was a better e-kit than what Simmons now has. Long story short, Simmons did not have any replacements for the e-kit only suggestions as to what pads may work. So I was stuck looking for a new e-kit. I wanted one that had a hi-hat on a stand(a total game changer). Unfortunately Simmons does not have one or care to ever come out with one. I looked at the best Simmons had to offer and was disappointed, as other e-kit companies had much better and more advanced e-kits for about thevsame money. This also was disappointing because Simmons used to make the most advanced e-kits and these days they do not care to do that. So I found an e-kit for not much more money than the Simmons Titon 50 that is extreamly accustic like. Comes with more pads, the cymbals are all 3 zone 360° triggering, and the module sounds are phenomenal. My point of all this is to tell all of you who seem to like Simmons you are better off with a better e-kit from another company as it will be better, more accustic like, and allow you to really learn and play drums properly without sacrificing zones, feel, playability, and sounds. If you learn on a Simmons e-kit or almost any lower-end low-budget e-kit and go play an accustic drum set you will find it so different it will be like relearning how to play drums. If you have an e-kit that is more accustic like than any Simmons e-kit and go play an accustic drum set you will virtually have seamless experience.
One of the most underrated Synths in my Opinion. A lot of the Sounds sound 80s Cinematic.
I’d really appreciate it if you could make a video on how to hook it all up to make it 6 Tom’s and 6 cymbals. I have the titan 50 B-EX and I would love to have more of a little more of a setup for recording with my plugin.
If I purchase another expansion pack in the future, I'll be glad to do that, unfortunately right now this is all I have so I can't do it right now. It would basically be the same steps as in this video though, only you'd have to sacrifice the choke functionality on the two cymbals and instead use 2 couplers+insert cables on those two tom cables as well, splitting them into your 6th tom and 4th, 5th, and 6th cymbals. I believe you could also split the snare, but you'd lose the dual zone functionality there. Basically, due to the limitations of the Titan 50 module, you'd have to sacrifice something.
What kind of microphone stand is that? I've been looking for something like that so I can sing while playing drums.
It's just a cheap desk mount mic stand I bought on amazon 3-4 years ago for $8.99. I thought it would be junk, but it's still going strong today. You do need something to mount it to though, as it's not free standing. Also came with pop filters, different mic mounts, even a cell phone mount. I just looked and the exact one I got isn't available anymore, but if you search "desk mount microphone stand" or "microphone stand boom arm" on Amazon, there are tons of similar options.
Hey man! Where did you get it? I’ve been trying to get one since I used to have one when I was younger, but I can’t find it anywhere online anymore.
Yeah, unfortunately these haven't been available for a while now. I purchased it on Amazon though, when they were available. Hopefully they come back at some point as they're great guitars for the price.
@ I wonder why they discontinued them?
@@abraham_benson_official Well, the most likely reason is that they just sold out and haven't produced any more yet. Best Choice Products makes A TON of different things, it's pretty crazy, so re-stocking guitars just might not be high on their priority list. In that case, hopefully at some point they get re-stocked. However there's also always the possibility that there were legal issues with the shape of the guitar and in that case they either just discontinue the model or go and change the shape a little bit. Ultimately only time may tell.
Cool guitar,, and great music Jroid! I LOVE Firefly! I don't know why... but your stuff stopped coming into my feed. I thought about you today, and searched for your channel. Went to the vids... and found all sorts of stuff that I have not seen yet. So that's cool. But don't know why your vids stopped appearing in my time-line. Hopefully.... from here on out... they show up. If not... I'll find them anyway!
As always, greatly appreciate the kind words! And yeah, that's the old battle I have with my good friends, the Algorithms. These days, I do my best not to worry too much about any of that and just have fun making the videos I enjoy making. If they do good, that's great! If not, on to the next. Thank you for thinking of/remembering me and searching for me, not everyone does that so that means a lot, I appreciate you doing that. And yeah, if you check out my review/demo on this guitar, you'll see my first experience with Firefly wasn't the best, but I'm hoping to give them another go at some point. As I say in the video, they definitely make a lot of cool guitars, I always want to buy like 10 different ones on their site. And even with the issues I had, it's still a great guitar for the money so I'm sure I'll pick up another at some point. I think I might have asked you already, but what Firefly's do you have?
Cool vid, JROID! Happy New Year, Brother ! Hey quick question. I have an Alesis DM10 Pro Kit. I built it into a Tama Acoustic Kit, and it turned out killer! But I am now at a point where I want to get better sounds. I want to use software like you are doing. How do I get started? Is there a a reasonably priced software package? I suck on drums. LOL I just want to get better sounds than the module provides. What software package can I get, relatively inexpensive? And what do I do next? Plug into a Lap-Top? How does that interface with the drums? And the inputs and outputs? Sorry to bug you on this !
Thank You, same to you pal! And you're not bugging me one bit, you know I love talking about music gear any time. This is actually an excellent idea for a video to make in the future, so thank you for the great questions! But for now, let me see if I can get you started in a good direction. First off, as I said previously, your kit sounds most excellent! And it's all about fun, more variety=more fun, more fun=more playing, more playing=better skills! So first thing is you want to make sure you have a computer that can handle drum software, some are lighter on resources than others. I highly recommend trying out a bunch of free versions of drum programs, one of my favorites being ML Drums, sounds great with just the stock presets. The free version does however have limitations on number of toms (2), which is a bummer. Expansion packs for that, although inexpensive if you get them on their 50% sales can end up getting addicting as you end up wanting them all. So recently I've been really working a lot on using IK Multimedia's Modo Drum as it was included in the Total Studio Max bundle that I bought on sale for like $150, which also included Amplitube & Tonex (guitar/bass), Syntronik (synths), Sampleton (mellotron), Sampletank, TRackS (mixing/mastering) and a whole bunch more. I've been slowly unpacking the bundle making videos for everything on my channel and it's a ton of fun, well worth the ~$150 sale price. Modo Drum specifically has 13 different drum kits, which I did a video on. There's a lot of versatility there. They have a free version as well, but it only includes 1 kit (based on a Yamaha). Then really the only other thing is an audio interface, do you have one? I just use an older Focusrite Scarlet 2i2, which settings wise you'll want to use ASIO, otherwise there will be latency, which is no fun at all. You just plug your audio interface and Drum module into your computer via USB, open your drum software, make sure everything is good in settings and then you're playing! Again, a video on this would definitely be much more helpful, but I'm here if you have any further questions! The best thing though is free software, as then you can see what works and what doesn't before spending a bunch of money.
Man this sounds sooooo good!! Great backing track, and such an amazing and melodic piece of lead work. Love this, Brother !
Much appreciate, my friend, thank you! This is one of my older songs "Transform", nowadays I don't really care too much for my voice/sound quality on the song...may have to re-record it at some point.
Please create a video on how to physically install the extra tom pad. Where did you mount it? what did you have to move add or change to the frame.
Good suggestion, Thank You, I'll add it to the list of future videos to make. It occurred to me in editing that I probably should have just done that, but wasn't sure on if it was necessary or not, so now I have my answer, and my apologies that I didn't do it for this video. The good news is that I didn't add anything extra to the frame, everything fits on the stock frame and in fact, I think I could probably fit even one more expansion pack, although I'd have to sacrifice the cymbal choke functionality, which I enjoy using. I have moved different pieces around, but I think it's all just personal preferences, for example I moved the module and two crash cymbals to the center of the rack as opposed to the left and right arms, but again, I think everyone will have personal preferences as to where they want cymbals, pads, module, etc. for their liking and setup. The stock rack and hardware is very flexible to a lot of different setups, which is really great!
@@JROID I have emailed Simmons tech support this same question. Have not received a reply. So yes please create an "how to" video. Regarding mounting additional tom pads.
@@davidmost5206 I certainly will make a video, however I usually rotate between guitar, drum, and synthesizer videos so it may take a few weeks to get it out. If you're in a hurry for assistance, it's really not too difficult, you just loosen a few bolts using the drum key that comes with the Titan 50, slide off the end post of the side your looking to place a drum and slide the clamps/mounts on/off the rack/frame. The actual placement is up to you. If you're not in a hurry, as I said, I'll gladly make a video for you, it just will take a bit of time to get to it.
@@JROID Take your time creating the video. That's what thought.
@@davidmost5206 Sounds good, thanks for your interest!
Happy New Year

Happy New Year 💥🔥
Thank you, same to you, my friend!
This is the cloest I can get to a tutorial about making MODO Drum sound aggressive. Develop Device Studio won’t budge with their preset videos.
Well I appreciate you watching, hopefully it was helpful, I also have one I did recently on Pantera's "Walk" that utilizes the Modo Drum Metal Kit, if you're interested. I definitely feel that Modo Drum is underrated and will be doing a whole lot more Modo Drum videos in the future.
new fan here! i got a couple of the single cut solid body "thinline" LP censtar clones and love em! wonder if the pups are the same in yours and mine....both have the chrome covered humbuckers.... i looked on bamazon and it seems your version is sold out....well...so is mine lol!
Welcome to the party pal! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment! That's most excellent, which color(s) do you have? They definitely are very nice guitars, it's a bummer that they're sold out currently, I had them in my watch list for such a long time and they weren't selling fast at all, then bam! they're gone. I hope they come back with some new color options, I said it to another individual, I'd love a gold one. Or a traditional silverburst. And I'd imagine the pickups should be the same, but you never know with all these different manufacturers sometimes even operating out of the same facilities as other brands.
@@JROID koool! glad to be on board! one is a baccoburst and the other is a "ice tea" burst.... the coilsplits dont sound great to me on the pups that came with the 2 censtar LP clones...full HB theyre "golden".... ill be popping in a artec LPC210 15k ceramic humbucker(in the icetea burst) and using the stock coilsplit switch....i just hope that outer coil is active when engaged...the stock one is.... fingers crossed!
@@birdman316 Ooh, very nice choices, and sounds like a nice modification you have planned. I still haven't done the coil split mod on mine yet cause as you said the full humbuckers are quite nice and I usually like to sit with things for a bit. As I said in this video though, I can almost guarantee I'll do it for a future video at some point.
Pantera 🤩🤩
OHH YEAHH! Thanks for watching!
No link as to where or how to buy one of these on either of your two videos of this guitar. Dude, help us out here, OK?
If you search “Censtar Semi-Hollow” on Amazon, that’s how you find it. Unfortunately this color and the red color look to be sold out now, they only have 1 left in stock in the “Orange” color.
why does ur kirk jazz 3 pick looks big but mines are small as shit
Optical illusion? Visual trickery? Your size description is exactly how I would describe them, very small picks.
I really dug you exploring and discovering a new instrument, specially the Mellotron my fav instrument. I do wish you strayed away from the same song and explored more in creating something different. A tip if you haven't figured it out by now: try not to use staccato note playing and let the instrument breathe by holding those keys down a bit. Also, this keyboard is known for its quirks and off tuning. It gives it a unique character that's hard to duplicate without using different tools. I also really dug when you experimented with a different melody, I can honestly hear some of the melodies in a Lady Ga Ga song, seriously. Some even gave me 80s Oingo Boingo or synth pop 80s feels. In a good way. Perhaps creating melodic catchy pop songs is your true calling? I mean, Mike Dean wanted to be a rocker but somehow ended up playing for Selena (yes that Selena) and now he's a multi platinum hip hop producer. I can hear it there for you. Challenge for you. Create some melodies and add some trap drums or whatever flavor of hip hop you want to try (even if you don't like hip hop) for fun.
Thank you very much for watching and taking the time to leave your thoughts! I always say that I'm a guitar player who likes to play a bit of keyboard, drums, sing, etc. So I do agree that my keyboard skills are pretty rudimentary. I do have a great deal of fun making these videos, learning about/playing instruments I'm unfamiliar with so I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it. And I appreciate the tips/info as well, always looking to expand my knowledge and skills, thank you! If you get a chance and are interested, I actually do make music and would greatly appreciate you giving it a listen. I have lyric videos on my channel and it's also available on streaming services. I ended up using this Sampletron/Mellotron on my latest song "Make Believe". A lot of my music does have an 80's influence so you nailed that! The whole reason I started this "JROID" project was so that I could create whatever music came out of me creatively, without anyone saying I needed to stick to a genre, so some songs lean towards rock, some pop, some country, some electronic, and depending on how much you dig, there's even a little trap for you on my older stuff as I do enjoy me quite a bit of hip hop and rap actually! My newer stuff is definitely better when it comes to sound quality as I've gotten better at recording/mixing/mastering over the years, but my older stuff is still out there. If you end up giving it a listen, please let me know what you think, as I said, I'm always looking to learn/improve so I'd love to hear your thoughts. And Thank you again for watching/commenting, take care, my friend!

Hi! Is the bridge routed for a humbucker? Thank you
How's it going, friend!? Thanks for the question, unfortunately it is not, neither the neck nor the bridge are routed for full size humbuckers.
Thanks for the reply❤@@JROID

Ooh, thank you for the suggestion, hadn't heard of that one, will check it out!
Great Sound
Thank you!
Hey, guys! Is it worth taking this guitar for $ 150
Well, that's a good question. I have a review and demo video on my channel if you're interested in my full opinions, but I personally, being a budget seeker, would wait for a sale/coupon to trim a little off. At the $119 that I paid, it's an easier choice, but at $150 you have to start comparing to guitars just a little more, ones that offer "better" specs like stainless steel frets, set neck construction, etc. Now if you're looking for something specific that only this guitar offers, like myself where I wanted a white, bolt on, "SG" style guitar, there's less options there and thus you end up with this. It is a good guitar, I still like it and play it a lot, and at $119 there's not much competition, but at a higher price, there are also better options.
Like 😉
Much appreciated!
Nice chops, Rock on! What a fun guitar to take to a jam where some snob who can't play will show up with some multi-thousand dollar axe.
Thank you for the kind words and for taking the time watch! Yeah, I'm definitely enjoying this one a lot thus far, the quality for the price is impressive.
@JROID yep, heck of a deal! ... you can buy several to match yer shoes🤔 Useable coil tap/split. Very groovy finish. Gonna look fantastic under stage lights. Almost like an old goldtop that has started to green up from age. I dig it. They make a red flame top one that says, " buy me".... ....I am ancient but still love the smell of a new guitar. I listened to some of your stuff. Totally enjoyable. Nice edge to your voice. Take care of yourself, eat your veggies, rock out every day!
@@rustyshackleford9557 Ha, that's funny! Speaking of goldtops, if they ever happen to make a goldtop one of these, I'd probably buy that one too. I've been looking to replace my Gibson Les Paul Deluxe I sold, but haven't found the right one yet. And yeah, new guitar day really never seems to get old, at least it hasn't for me yet. And I appreciate you checking out my music, that means a great deal to me, thank you for the kind words! Great username by the way, RIP
Fantastic video! Excellent shots of the details.... Folks ask " how does it sound" Folks...if you play like 95%of ALL guitar owners, it sounds absolutely horrid, comical, and painful. If you play like Robben Ford, well it sounds like Robben Ford... 45 years of makin a livin' with a guitar. People are mostly what makes a guitar sound bad. Very, very few guitar owners can play.
Thank you again, I appreciate you watching! And I couldn't agree more with what you said, took me many years to learn that, though. Cheapest MSRP guitar I've bought thus far is the $89 LyxPro and I honestly have gotten more enjoyment out of it than any of the multi thousand dollar, USA made, custom shop guitars I've owned. That's one of the reasons why I sold all of my expensive guitars, these budget guitars have allowed me to experiment far more than I ever could have with those. You can learn what you like and don't like without big financial risk and working on the guitars creates a deeper connection with the instrument, making the player better.
Nice demo! Sounds great!
Much appreciated, thank you for watching!
Sounds better than i thought it would.
Yeah, I'm pretty impressed with this one thus far. Thanks again for watching, I appreciate you doing so!
@@JROID Always watching Brother! 💪🏻and superb playing!
@@HowlinAndyDE Much appreciated pal!
Full version?🔥
Thanks for watching, unfortunately I have not done full versions of any themes, I tend to keep them short. Partially because WWE Themes tend to just loop the same parts and partially for fair use reasons. I have a playlist with more WWE Theme covers if you're interested.
Thank you for watching, my review & demo video on this guitar is now available on my channel if you're interested.
Wooow
Thanks for watching!
I think it's gorgeous. I want one. Something original from over there at last. Can't wait to see if it's sounds live up to it's stunning looks in the next part. By the way, digging your music, man.
Again, thank you for the kind words on my music, I greatly appreciate you listening! And yeah, this guitar certainly is unique, at least in my collection anyways, I'm a fan thus far. Working on the review/demo now, should be up in a few days, thank you for watching!
"proudly handcrafted by a 7 year old Chinese artisan"
Unfortunately that is a very real and serious possibility. And also unfortunately an issue that transcends both guitars and China. I truly hope it's not the case here.
There are lots of children in China who are used in the work force but they are likely sewing little Dollar store holiday banners and gluing similar products etc. These are most likely built in Changle and way too expensive parts and wood to intrust to children. Changle Leji " Grote" factory most likely. Nice workhorse guitars. Good alnico humbuckers. Great guitar to take to a jam where some guy who probably couldnt make a livin' playin guitar will show up with some expensive thang he can't hardly play.
@@rustyshackleford9557 Wow, you seem to know a lot more than I do, thank you for sharing that knowledge. Regardless of what they're making, it's a terrible situation all around and nearly impossible to know what to buy and what not to buy. It's not like they put a special label on things so we know not to support it, and avoiding Chinese made products altogether, as I said, isn't really a solution as it transcends just China.
what is the point of this if you do not know how it sounds like
Thank you for the message, as I put at the end of this video, my sound demo and review video will be available soon. I always split the unboxing and review into two videos as I don't feel I can accurately, honestly, and fully judge a guitar right out of the box. For fairness, I give every guitar I get the same setup and spend a few days playing it before generating my opinions on it. If you're interested, look for my full review and demo video soon. I appreciate you watching!
Okay...... but how does it sound? Besides the numbers and prettiness factor, is it even worth the money?

@@JROID sorry about that. My mistake :) I’ll keep a look out for the review
@EriktheG248 Thank you, I appreciate that, it may not be the best way to do things, but for now that’s how I do it. Have a good day, my friend!
Nice Guitar 🎸
Thank you!
junk
That guitar is not junk. Folk are just snobs and most of em couldn't even play a basic simple 4 hour bar gig. I've gigged and done session work for over 45 year. Just to bug ignorant folks, I have used an 89$ Grote strat with 34$ in alnicos in it and a 155$ Grote 335-ish thing for almost every live job I have done for the last 4 years. No complaints. Folks who call this stuff junk, often can't even strum Happy Birthday in C#, even after I tell them it is a I,V,I,IV progression.
I don't usually spend much time in comment threads that sway towards negativity, as I truly do respect and welcome everyone's unique opinions, even if they oppose mine. I just choose to focus on positivity in life, but I want to say that's pretty cool that you do that, we need more guitar players like you out there that aren't so concerned with what brand they're playing or how much they spent on their guitar.
@JROID A lifetime in the biz has made me a bit snarky. I love taking mid priced firearms and out-shooting folks who have custom built firearms. I love that 89$ Grote around folks with custom shop Fenders. I find the idea of a guy singing the blues while playing a 4000$ dollar guitar through a 3000$ boutique amp pretty funny. What's there to be blue about when ya got a 10,000 dollar rig?🤔
The buisiness plays on folk's insecurities. Most guitar guys are not the star football guy from their highschool or the valedictorian. We aren't always the most handsome or clever and the buisiness takes full advantage of that. Fortunately I am so dang autistic and anti-social that I never much cared if I fit in or what others thought/think of me. Asperger's/autism has its challenges but folks like me see thru the b.s. bevause we just don't endeer ourselves to people or their opinions. We love our mama and daddy and friends but we view them and their qualities and opinions as being of no more value than anyone else's. It makes us quite independent of insecurity and trying to impress.
@@rustyshackleford9557 Well I like your way of thinking and as I said, if more people thought like that, I think there'd be a bit more positivity in the world.
Nice guitar! Not my color, but I can still appreciate it. I'm glad to see this one shows the wiring for the knobs. I have a Peavey JF-1, and it was driving me nuts to see the wires - I like things tucked away and neat. But it plays like a dream, so learned to to live with it.
It certainly is an interesting color, I can say that. In some lighting it looks like a silverburst, in others it can look kind of greenish, then straight up gold. Every time I look at it, I see a different color. I've been looking for a silverburst or a goldtop to replace a Gibson I sold and somehow this accomplishes both and neither at the same time...guess I'll just have to get a couple more guitars..ha! What's your favorite color when it comes to guitars? And yeah, I agree, the wires on Hollow/Semi-Hollow guitars can be a bit unsightly if you pay attention to them, shouldn't be too hard to hide them though if it's bothersome enough. I looked up the Peavey JF-1, very nice! Which color did you go with on it?
Rocked it hard bro ✌️ entertaining and informative ..
I appreciate that, thank you for watching!
Eddie’s obxa may or may not be in my studio. I’ll never tell.
That'd be pretty incredible if so!
You sound like the TikTok voice lol
Ha! I've gotten a lot of different comparisons, but that's a new one.
I should've snagged one of these when I saw them on amazon for $129. I love the look and it seems to sound fine for a guitar in the price range.
They do seem to go on and off sale quite frequently so just keep an eye out and I'm sure you'll be able to pick one up at some point, if you're still interested when the time comes. These days, there are tons of great budget options that offer a lot of value for the money, this is definitely one of those, still enjoying it to this day!
What did they mean when they said it's "free"? Do users using tonex cs will be able to unlocked amps and tone models for free?
The FX update is free, so CS users can update and use the new built in FX (Chorus, Delay, Phaser, etc.) with their previously included 20 tone models. So unfortunately no new amps/tone models, just FX. Nowadays, I think IK Multimedia is pretty much just selling new tone models as add on packs, fortunately there's more user models than I think anyone would ever be able to use, which CS users can choose 20 of those as well.
@JROID much appreciated brother
@@jonathanpaulpano No problemo, if you have any other questions, let me know, glad to help any time I can.
I think the Names should be switched in my opinion... Amplitude for ToneX because is mostly about Amps.... and ToneX for Amplitude because there is everything about Tone.
Ha! That's a good observation, never thought about that. It seems like they're slowly trying to meld the two, but not going all in. Perhaps a fully combined plugin would be too large or perform poorly(technically and/or financially). I personally would be satisfied with separating all the Tonex amps from their cabs in Amplitube X, and allowing access to the Tonex Tonenet from inside Amplitube. I'm not a program developer though, so I do understand that may be too complicated. For now, what we have works, just a few extra steps.
