Great videos you have 😁 I love rising or posting without stirrups and no stirrup work in general 👍😁 Please could you do a video on trot -> canter and canter -> trot? I’m coming back into riding from a 10 year break and loving every moment and working hard on core strength but my those two transitions are still pretty disasterous and I can’t get enough of videos on the subject! ❤️

And I think you’re right-a lot of it is gaining strength. I was actually sore after my last lesson and I ride several days a week. This is a great visual. Thanks again.

I always thought western riding was harder.
I hate the fatter , bulky saddle and hate longer stirrups.
I feel more in control with my kness up against the saddle and using my knees.
In fact I went on a trail ride with my father and they ran out of western saddles.
One poor guy didn't have one, so I asked the person taking us out, who just happened to be my instructor, so she let me use an English saddle, so the poor guy could have my western saddle.

I sometimes tend to have my legs to far forwards which can throw my balance off terribly and I just end up bouncing loads lol. But in getting better. Thank you! I'm only just learning to post, and this helps heaps. Are you able to do a video where you describe a little more about where your weight rests, how you control speed with the posting trot, and if there are any exercises that I might be able to practice in order to train the right muscles to support instead of squeeze when riding and posting to the trot?

A thing I would like to discuss that I'm unsure about, sorry if the video already went over it but I find it easier to follow when written down in one. How do I rise up without standing in the stirrups? I get like idk rising and falling but I just can't I don't get it

I’ve been riding dressage for six years and soon I’m going to be looking at a horse and the evaluation of whether we’re a good fit is going to be in the owner’s ap/ jump saddle. I feel like I’m going to look funny trying to post with such short stirrups. Any tips?

I’m on my third horse riding lesson and I’ve walk, trot, cantered and been over a couple of poles but in the videos of me my hips looked too fat forward compared to the week before. I thought it was my fault but it was actually me improving as I was doing it wrong before, and also the stirrups were too short for me. I’m not in experienced though, I have a friend who’s horses I go to every day, I don’t make any financial contribution but I do things to help out around the two paddocks (with five horses) like poo picking, cleaning grooming equipment, picking out nettles (so we don’t get stung) and picking out harmful weeds, also the lady who lives opposite the paddocks owns one of the five horses and is friends with my friend. She is renovating her house because she just moved in and needs to make a small area for her pony and also do a lot of work because she owns a doggy daycare. So if she needs anything doing, like carrying branches from hedges or trees across her front garden to her fire pit, sawing tree branches, bathing her pony (because it’s a new pony and not yet bombproof and she has no other help ). Or even if it is just helping look after the dogs and taking them for walks at the daycare. In exchange for all that I see the horses every day and groom them as much as I like and can ride them whenever someone else is there (another rider my age who is my friend’s best friend’s granddaughter, who’s 4 years younger than me). So we ride her horses a lot but my trot hasn’t improved much from riding him, one reason is because he is lazy and another is because the saddle is bad (it is a Shetland’s showing saddle) so that saddle is extremely wobbly and thin and generally not good. We’re buying a new one soon though so that might help. This video is great and although this is long so I doubt anyone has read through all this, thanks for listening to my story. Horses have saved me from suicide. And I’m ever so grateful for all my horsey friends.

Which muscles are engaged? Would it use my lower leg at all? I am disabled and have a very weak knee, calf and ankle. I know you're not pushing through your feet, but surely it still engages those muscles?

I’m the same age as you and like you have started riding again after many years. I’m loving it(and these videos) but get very stiff muscles. I’m hoping with regular lessons this will improve.😩
