Want to see Alice Springs AND do the Simpson?
My next trip would be via the Barkly Highway (highway 66) from Mount Isa to Tennant Creek. I want to keep my teeth, so the Plenty Highway (12) is out. Once you have done the Alice, one place I can highly recommend is Ruby Gap (East MacDonnell ranges). On your way to the Simpson you must stop at Dalhousie Springs. The Simpson is not as bad as it is made out as long as you are sensible, have recovery gear and have some mechanical knowledge. We went through when Eye Creek had some water in it. The bird life was magnificent.

You gave me a real laugh on this one! Anyone who thinks that everywhere in Oz is warm all the time should have a week in the Canberra area in winter! It's 9.45 am and the temperature outside is 3° C - but the grass is still white with frost. WAY better than Tuesday's -4° C. Melbourne and Hobart are nowhere near as cold as Canberra - they are south but we are at much higher altitude. BIG advantage of this climate is NO CANE TOADS!

Other thing the Australian climate or climates is there seems to be more places situated at elevation. i.e drive one hr west of sydney, towns like katoomba at 3000ft would have a similar climate to London. Ben Nevis is only 4,413 feet. That makes Mount Kosciuszko in NSW at 7,310 feet seem *relativley* huge!

Take your cold weather gear with you to the Alice, dry means no clouds overhead, means cold at night. Cloud cover keeps the days heat in the ground longer. If you are driving, take supplies with you, food, water, extra petrol, check your spare tyre, to get yourself out of trouble. If it's flooded forget it, bad time to travel. If you break down, stay with the car. Heat stroke is deadly. Better to not need extras, than not have them when you do. Never Ever, follow a min-min light.

Now that I've given my 6 things that I think about pertaining to Australia, I thought I'd offer 6 myths foreigners believ about your northern hemisphere counterpart, Canada:
    1. Moose walk down the main streets if Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver.
    2. Canadians all live in igloos.
    3. It's arctic weather everywhere in Canada all year round (Hint: it isn't).
    4. That we say "eh" at the end of every sentence, and pronounce about as "aboot" (we don't).
    5. That we're basically the same as Americans, just more polite (partly truw/partly false).
    6. That all Canadians speak French (only 20% do; the other 78% speak English).

Mmm? YOU DO say "aboot". As Australian tourists we were always asking directiobs and got a majority of "aboots". Glad you do or I could not tell you from Americans! Having spent a ridiculous time waiting for a cab at Lester J Pearson in 30° heat - in late September - I can easily confirm it gets hot. We caught a limo rather than wait any longer in the heat. Having then gone to Montreal and Quebec City I can confirm it's bloody cold in October!

if you like UK weather then you should move to tazzy. but the problem may be work not a lot around. weather wise on the main land the coldest would be Canberra then Melbourne .Adelaide maybe cold in winter and real hot in summer.Sydney dosen't get as cold as Melbourne in winter and can get around 40c in summer. Brisbaine is warmer again in winter than Sydney about the same in summer.Cairnes, Darwin and Broome are hot year round (realy they only have 2 seasons the dry and the wet ) christmas is about the middle of the wet season and it buckets down as been known to make it inpossible to get around at all in heavey rain.

Hey BAM Famalam the shrimp/prawn thing came about because Paul Hogan's ad was directed at encouraging Americans to travel here, based on the interest generated after the Crocodile Dundee films came out. Americans use the term 'shrimp' for what we Aussies call a prawn - the tourism marketing gods told him to call them shrimps in the advertising else the Americans wouldn't understand what he was saying. I think they were wrong - Americans have the ability to learn new things - and all the rest of us have had to learn lots of new words and products in US advertising - they don't change the terms for us!

Glad you didn’t make mention of how dangerous the drop bears are . We don’t need all myths about our unique wildlife dispelled. Just saying 😁

Another myth is New Zealand is not apart if Australia. We are very similar over here but better looking, we can roll around in the longest grass we can possibly find and there are no Aussies lol 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. We like to joke with our aussie neighbours tho, they can take a good joke. It's a great place 👍. Everyone here says gidday, or how ya going. Common as bro

@@TheBAMFamalam it's very similar but also very different. The south Island is also very different to the north. It's worth the quick plane ride over. We can do a house swap for a week or so lol 🙂
