    My nickname when I studied in Australia (high school & uni) was Jaui (from Jau). My Chinese surname was Zeng, so that evolved into Zenger, then Zinger, then Zinger Burger and then one guy ended up just calling me Burger - even 10 years on.

    He forgot to mention that he starred in the Aussie film "Rabbit Proof Fence", which is one of the most critically films down here in 'Strayla. Kenny played a government official trying to wipe out all Aborigines. Such a moving film.

    • @skullsaintdead
      @skullsaintdead 6 лет назад +10

      Philip Shehan The effect was to wipe them out, as (at the time, late 1800's, early to mid 1900s) we felt white culture was superior and would be beneficial to Aboriginals. How wrong we were. They were doing perfectly well til we came along.

      Rabbit Proof Fence is just Hollywood propaganda.
      There was no ‘Stolen Generation’
      There were 10% of ALL kids in Foster care in Australia after the 1890s drought leading in to WW1 , the Depression and WW2.
      Half the kids ‘Stolen’ were given up by the parents
      If anyone is to blame it’s the Church. Yet having said that if it weren’t for them there would’ve been hundreds of thousands of kids on the streets or dead.
      Of course try explaining that to all the naive folk who are force fed revisionist narratives and they will turn around and call you a racist.

      Wallaroo /wɒləˈruː/ is a common name for several species of moderately large macropods, intermediate in size between the kangaroos and the wallabies. The word "wallaroo" is from the Dharug walaru with spelling influenced by the words "kangaroo" and "wallaby". According to Google. And they have a picture of one.

    On the matter of wallaroos, it pains me that so many Australians know so little about Australian wildlife they consider wallaroos to be mistaken wallabies. The Europeans even names their currency after one species of wallaroo, the euro. They could have called it the European Monetary Unit, or EMU.

    • @mrtensed
      @mrtensed 6 лет назад +3

  • @howdareyouhowdareyou7970
    @howdareyouhowdareyou7970 5 лет назад

    Common shorten names in Australia:
    Abigail: Abby
    Benjamine: Ben
    Caitlyn: Katy
    David: Davo
    Elijah: Eli
    Fredison: Freddy
    Gabriella: Gabby
    Harrison: Harry
    Izzabella: Izzy
    Jacqueline: Jacky
    Kendrick: Kenny
    Louis: Louy
    Madison: mady
    I’m not gonna finish because my phone is on 3% and the charger is 20 feet away.
    Also typically names shortened to end in ‘O’ are only applied to male names but names ending in ‘E(Y)’ are both male and female.

We see grey kangaroos every day taking the kids to school (Qld's Sunshine Coast) and there's even a giant male who hangs out at the school, lying on the oval or under a tree near the buildings, and all the kids know to respect him but never approach him. So cool, get out there and look around cos they really are everywhere.

    Kangaroos can be quite dangerous in the wild. They have sharp claws and can cause severe slash wounds with them. If they want to deliver a knockout blow, they will sway back on their tail and kick out with both feet. Also, I think in the video there was mention of a kang-
    aroo being trained; this is not possible because they are not intelligent animals. There is a video on you tube of a man punching a kang-aroo in the face; the roo seemed quite shocked. He must have never experienced that method of combat before.

      Yes i agree it can happen if you don't use your brain .
      But all Australian's or people living in Australia SHOULD KNOW that an upright position is a treat to kangaroo's ..
      All kangaroo's in the bush roaming free are WILD animals and should be treated with RESPECT and caution at all times.

    I’m pretty sure here in Australia we would pronounce ‘Jimmy’ as ‘dickhead’.

    Aussie here..."Jimmy" is Aussie as you Pom! (because of Aussie Legend Jimmy Barnes) It's so Aussie that we'd even call a James or a Jim...Jimmy!

    Sir Kenneth needs to visit Morisset psych hospital. On the spacious grounds there are abandoned boarded up buildings and kangaroos- lots of kangaroos and wallabies. Great place for a zombie kangaroo movie.

    He calls himself Jimmy and THAT is what he would be referred to. ONLY if he called himself Jim or James would he then be called Jimbo or Jimmy.

    A kangaroos pouch is not a very nice place, its clamy, warm and smelly. Don't put your hand in one.

      Don't be fatuous, Jeffrey It was actually pretty spot on strong bogan accent.

      Mate, I dunno where you live, but in 40+ years I have only heard friends with NZ or South African backgrounds here have that particular relationship with vowels. I mean I hang with bogans... I can pull a broad Strine with the best of them - I'm a fifth-generation Queenslander, for heaven's sake. I have to dispute you on "spot on"'...

      well when I lived in Melbourne I lived next to a Broadie boy and one of my mates up here is from Broadmeadows too. And proud. Neither of them talk like that but they're both self-confessed bogans. I'm confused - is it a Melbourne bogan thing or what? Cause most of my mates down there talked way more proper than most people up here lol...no, actually, that was really a thing. It's hard to tell now, maybe, sometimes? People move round a lot... Side note: we used to call it 'bevan" up here - "bogan" seems to be a Southern import. Cheers - Maude

    Wtf I’m an Australian and I think that would be disrespectful. The proper way to address a knight is sir and then their first name. So I was address him as sir Kenneth if I ever met him and for example Ian McKellen as sir Ian or Anthony Hopkins as sir Phillip (Anthony is is middle name/stage name but his actual name is Philip) also FYI my grandmother said that since knights and Dates are a higher social status when meeting them you must bow or curtesy

      The large kangaroos like to use their fore-paws to hold you by the the shoulders, then lean back on their tails to use their hind legs to rip open your stomach.

    Male roos do not have a pouch. They do have huge balls that hang in front of their willy, not behind and below like mammals.
