Brian Wilson was partly deaf in one ear so he used instruments that made the music sound like it did in his head. He also innovated the layered sound.

If you don't like "Simon & Garfunkel" or "The Beach Boys" than you probably don't like incredible harmonies or great vocals in general. Everyone their cup of tea i guess. I love them both. But there are also music genres that i can't vibe with. Also Billy Joel has some killer tracks. "Movin' Out", "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant", "Everybody Has A Dream", "The Stranger", "She's Always A Woman", "Just The Way You Are"... and that are just the songs i know from one album. :D

WOAHHHH, my jaw literally dropped when you said Billy Joel is known for 1 record, dude is one of the best selling aritists of all time. He has like 30 songs that can be considered hits, and he has one of the best voices ive ever heard. Fr Billy Joel is HUGE and has a lot of great music, not just pop orientated, like genuinely great music

Billy Joel was an absolute hit machine when I was in high school. Wikipedia says: Discography of Billy Joel: He released 13 studio albums, six live albums, 18 compilation albums, 10 video albums, 61 singles, three promotional singles and 45 music videos. Throughout his career, he has sold over 150 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists in history.

Piano Man was only a moderate hit for Billy Joel initially. When his album ‘The stranger’ was released 3 years later, he became a worldwide superstar. I saw him live only a few months ago. I enjoy listening to your reviews and am subscribed. I thought your review of Hotel California was very insightful but sometimes I feel you lack perspective, as in this list and Lyin' Eyes. I don't agree with this guy's list BUT you lack the musical history to judge "influential". I could be your grandmother but I saw the Beatles and the Rolling Stones first time around. And almost everyone from the 60's and 70's. Whether I like some of these artist matters not, but you need to explore the influences of the Beachboys, Simon & Garfunklel, and others. No Little Richard there would be no Elvis Presley, no EP no Beatles, no Beatles, no Led Zeplin, etc... You especially underestimate Billy Joel, who has had over 20+ hits, so is not a one hit wonder. My 71 year old self feels the most talented artists of the last few decades are Prince and Bruno Mars.

The Beach Boys were hugely innovative. Looking back it may not seem that way as they were so influential that many others copied them. Listen to Good Vibrations. Completely agree w/ you regarding The Beach Boys--I actually find the vocals and the excessive harmonizing extremely grating. The surfing songs are just light and silly (children's songs, really), and Pet Sounds is incredibly overrated---I think a lot of people hear that Pet Sounds is a great album and they don't question that, but if you listen to it, it's really very weak (God Only Knows has some catchy bits, but it also has some really annoying transitions, and the way they repeat "God only knows what I's do w/ out you" over and over gets monotonous and annoying. And lyrically, the BB are inane and entirely uninteresting/uncreative. Yes--most overrated band of all!

Sorry, it’s impossible to determine if you like a song by listening to a tiny snippet. There are many songs you would probably like if you listened to the whole song.
You’re right, you can’t be expected to understand influence of songs way before your time, but you can learn about musical history and appreciate it. The fact that you said. That Billy Joel had one song and is overrated says a lot. Billy is a brilliant songwriter. He had a huge amount of hits in the 70s and 80s, and several Grammys for his body of work.

I agree that Sweet Dreams is a bit too poppy to be easily called influential, without a slight cringe, *But* I hope you don't think that's the best to hear from Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox. They just got inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame for reasons greater than Sweat Dreams. But I will say that Sweet Dreams did eighties synth with enough excellence to make other people think they could do it well, too... so yes, influential. A lot of synth sucks...that's not the fault of the Eurythmics. But the Eurythmics are certainly not just about synth. Check out their song Savage. And check out "I Need a Man ", same album (the video. Its like a performance, done in character.) I think of their song "I Need a Man" as the female version of Supertramp's song Goodbye Stranger. But it's a woman singing, so maybe it gets readily discounted by some men? Not the women, I assure you. *And* I think that "character" is the same woman that the song "Savage" is about--- except she is in a dark mood. They wear the same dress and hair. (And that woman shows up elsewhere.)

If you grew up in SoCal, The Beach Boys were everything. Where’s Pearl Jam??

OMG! Whoever drew up this list is really short on exposure. No Janis Joplin? No Joe Cocker? No Allman Brothers Band? No Santana? No Heart? No Rush? No Pat Benetar? No Temptations? No Four Tops? No Guess Who? No Joni MItchell? No Linda Ronstatd? No Alice In Chains? No Supertramp? No Doobie Brothers? No ZZ Top? No Bad Company? No Cream? No Foreigner? No The Band? No Neil Young? No Steely Dan?, No Deep purple? No Jethro Tull,? No Otis Redding?. The list goes on and on.
Look, I know that the whole concept of a top 100 is a futile and absurd endeavor. It''s too highly personal and subjective, but If one is going to attempt it, he has to broaden his horizons beyond that with which he is most familiar. I just listed 25 bands or artists off the top of my head. any one of which or all of which could be both best and most influential...all of which should be above Blondie and Sinead O'Conner (as good as that song is). There now, I've vented my disbelief and irritation. Peace, Bro.

You have just let me know that you do not understand music composition or music at all. Beach Boys are THE most influential to all of all time people/muscians due to their mastery of sound and writing.
Nearly everyone in this list will say Beach Boys/Brian Wilson is the most influential writer ever.
    Billie Jean😭

I definitely don't know music composition, I just go off how it sounds and makes me feel. Beach Boys just bore me, I prefer Zeppelin and the Stones

I think we all started off knowing that any "all time top 100" list is going to be BS, because it can't be anything else really. There is no suitable set of criteria against which to make the judgement.
But whoever made this list ?
Nah... Not for me. Their tastes are a little too "Vanilla", and a little too narrow. Lost interest before the end (and I thought perhaps you did too).
I watched it knowing that I'd disagree with a lot of it, but I thought at least we'd get to hear a few forgotten classics.
Beach Boys... Given the tech available when they made those recordings, they were a genuine achievement.
Now, I could do it at home with one condenser mic, my Zoom R8 and Reaper. It's all about context.
Billy Joel. Ok, I'm not a particular fan, but he's had loads of hits (Uptown Girl ?), my favourite of which was River of Dreams. He is a thousand miles from being a one hit wonder
