I just bought a uberti 1862 pocket police. (May 2022). Had it to the range shoot good but I did put slixshot nipples on it first. Not a single cap jam over about 40 shots.
I have successfully made springs from music wire line the ones that track of the wolf sells. I have put them in my 1851, 1860, 1861, and my 1862. Makes the pistols run super smooth.
I ended up putting two main springs in the one I had because it didn't always set off the caps and it got cap jams. Slixshot nipples fixed that issue. I sold it 6 or 7 years ago but plan to buy a new one.
Ah , my favorite pistol. Buddy of mine had that problem with his shooting high. He took a mercury dime cut it in half and silver soldered it to the pistol, then filed away til it hit POA.
I have one with a 5.5" barrel, about 4 years old. The internals work well but we're a little stiff for the first 100 rounds. It shoots high but I have learned to compensate and can hit large targets out to about 25 yards. Not a real powerful pistol but I like the size and style. Thanks for posting.
I was surprised as to the power of this little pistol. It is more powerful than the Pocket Navy due to the rammer having more travel. With 17g charge and a 148 elongated cast from an authentic Colt mold, this sucker r e a l l y delivers! Mine are the 5 1/2'' models. Aim point at 12 yards is 5'' low. At 25 yards, 20'' low and at 50 yds 30'' low. Once the aiming point is figured out, the grouping is good! As with all these pistols, the best performance is with a fair size elongated and a powder charge that compresses to where rammer travel stops but does not reach the end of its travel, and the tip of the ball j u s t below the surface of the chamber.
One of my favorites. I have an Authentic Colt police. I fire the elongated balls cast from the steel mold. The Colt mold. As far as muzzle energy and all those questions, regarding modern comparrisons ,. At 50 yds, it penetrated through 3 pine boards with a 148g elongated charged with 18g FFFg GOEX (one 1'' board full penetration was considered lethal back in the day). So, this is all the 'muzzle energy' info that s needed. Curiously, the Police outperforms the Pocket Navy both in power and accuracy.
You quit aiming. I m currently learning how to 'point shoot' the old Colts. They were actually made by Colt to be used this way. What a pain though. Good shoot n! This is a fun video to watch. Hey! Do a comparrison shoot with a light pocket, heavy pocket, Navy etc!

I don't do business with Dixie anymore. Every so often Midway has really good deals on them, $250 on the last sale. I just never have the funds available when it happens.

Anyway, one curious thing,- One of the Pocket Navys I have has a oiled stock instead of varnished (all of mine ar Authentic Colts). The stock is serialed to the pistol. Back in the day, Colt did strange things like that too. ALL were silver plated though. None of these were military issued. I noticed that Uberties replicas are not plated. Just another way for them to 'save money'?
REQUEST... I want to put a Birdshead Grip on an 1862 Police and am toying with couple options to match up the back strap. How does the Uberti Lightning/Stallion Frame size compare to the 1862 please? Since of course the normal Uberti Birdshead grip options are slightly too large for the smaller 1862 frame. I am thinking about making an adapter piece to go inbetween or modifying the top of the backstrap. Sure would be nice if the smaller Stallion frame and grips even got me closer. ThankYou!

Matt Murphy of Murphy's Muskets did a test video of the 1862 Pocket Police using my smaller 140 grain VKV SMGUB Matt achrived around 9mm power factors out of the 1862.
I always shoot my pistols instinctively. Colts I've found, for me, do it quite well. You'll never get a bad comment from me for it. Shotgun guys do it all the time. Lol

its a short distance belly gun. I wouldn't use that thing for no more than 20'. if your going for accuracy at distance why don't you file your rear sights ?

My first cap and ball was an old FIE 1849 brass frame pocket model from around 1972 that I picked up at an auction for a deal. Didn’t shoot it much, eventually sold it. Finally bought the gun I originally wanted from the get-go, a Pietta 1851 .36 Navy from Cabela’s. This one was made in 2016. Haven’t had any issues with it, and rarely any cap-jams. Bought a Uberti 1862 pocket police from Dixie Gun Works on sale a year or two later. Out of the box, the wedge was bottomed out and could be pushed out with thumb-pressure, the cylinder could be slid on the arbor back and forth at least a 1/16th of an inch, and when I put caps on to burn the oil out, the hammer wasn’t able to come into full contact due to the cylinder sliding forward to even set them off. I considered tinkering with it but figured it would have been more aggravation. Sent it back. Maybe I had a lemon, but I’ve decided I’m content with the Pietta Navy and haven’t bought any others.
For a youngster you have good intentions, but simply order replacement parts. Oh, and offhand accuracy tests reflect only on your inability to manage a pistol. I'd stop polluting FB until you learn what you're talking about.

I bought a couple of Italian BP guns in the 1960s and 70s. They were all siverly lacking in quality control. I've been told they are better now.
I have a new one and it shoots real nice. I have a 6" barrel, and it mostly shoots straight. Good video.

I have one of the Uberti short barreled model (that looks like Leech & Rigdon), in .44 cal. from the '70's.If you might like an older one.
The piano wire springs hold up much better, for trigger and bolt.

Be careful using tires as a back stop! I was firing a Colt 45 SAA and the bullet ricochet back at me and hit me in the leg ! No bullshit

They do have safety pins. Some have multiple, others just have one.
Deepen the notch in the rear to suit your needs.

can you file the front sight when it shoots that high?
Filing the front sight raises the POA. I'd have to lower the back sight.
No you put a taller front sight on.
If you're skilled with a welder, you could try it. Or you could have a gunsmith install a taller sight.

I'd love to find and old one that functions and cut it down an Inch. Lose the loading lever. Make a nice .38 snubby kinda

I like Uberti cartridge guns, my 1873 Trapper Carbine in .357 is awesome. But when it comes to cap n ball I prefer Pietta.

The results also reflect the fact that Italian replica colts notoriously shoot a foot high. Maybe you aren't as sharp as you think.
